Sunday was the continuing lovely weather. I cleaned toilets and did some pickup. I did some blog visiting for Sunday posts. I reviewed options for an updated iphone for my daughter. She’s needing more memory. I found one at good used iphone unlocked with 30 day return, free shipping, and a one year warranty. She wants room for more music. I took Lulu on a nice, long walk. We have so much blooming and beautiful here. The trees are just starting to turn crimson, yet we still have crepe myrtle, roses, azaleas, and more blooming. My tricytris (toad lily) just started blooming and my reblooming azalea and standard dwarf bearded iris are reblooming. I did more laundry. My ex arrived at dinner time to visit and help with repairs. I made chili and cornbread.
Monday, I finished up some laundry and sort/throw of t-shirts and shorts. I got everything hung up in my closet. I did some spot watering when I took Lulu out. I cleaned up in the kitchen and got the dishwasher ready to go. We determined my daughter’s camping lantern is broken so I found a new one to order on Amazon. I wrote some reviews and worked on the next Read-along post. My ex and I went around the house to talk about things to be repaired / improved. Then Lulu and I walked. It’s a bit warmer today but nice. People commented they wanted the Grilled Chicken, Veggie with Herb Aioli Recipe so it’s up under my Recipes Tab now.
Tuesday, I finished up a book before getting going. I put together a Walmart order for a few things tomorrow. We ordered sod to fix a few areas we didn’t do last July. I found out the next book in a series I’d been waiting for released today and I didn’t even know it. ugh.
Wednesday, started out earlier after a good night’s sleep. I noticed the top of one of our patio chairs was all torn up when I took Lulu out. I did the Walmart pickup and didn’t get one item I really needed. I reworked the menu plan because we have so many leftovers and should eat those first. Tonight. The weather is really gorgeous but Friday thru the beginning of next week we will probably get some hurricane rains. But we are not in the forecasted direct path. Lulu and I walked one of the longer routes. I wrote a couple reviews, and set up some posts for new ARCs.
Thursday, I had to get going quickly, off to the farmer’s market to get sod. I also got some broccoli, green beans and zucchini since our garden isn’t producing enough of beans or broccoli yet. When I took Lulu out now the seat of our chair is all torn out. I don’t know if it’s raccoons, possum, feral cats? We’ve never had it happen in the 3 years we’ve lived here. I asked the neighbors on Facebook and they say squirrels. Lulu trying to supervise when I am outside grilling.
Friday, I slept a little late which is lovely when it is raining. The Hurricane Ian bits are here. It will likely be cool and rainy for the next few days. It looks like lots of places will be closed the next few days with flooding. Oh no, my dining room window is leaking into the house! I’m setting up posts. Poor Lulu going out in the wind and rain in her little raincoat. I finally got together all the pieces for my Fall COYER list 90 books and I must read at least 45. I updated the Library and COYER links for the month.
Saturday, it’s not raining just cloudy. I picked up a bunch of branches when Lulu and I went out this morning. I wrote a review. Lulu and I walked the longer route today. Then I decided I had to do a BJs pickup for a couple items. I got gas for only the second time this year for the hybrid at $2.95 per gallon.
September Reading: I had an extraordinary reading month. I managed to read 30 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge. I listened to 17 audiobooks, read 12 library books, 30 COYER reads, and 4 books which I already own.
All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog) 2022 Library Love Challenge
I did manage to read 4 books I own (goal is 3 per month):
- An Unforgiving Desert by SJ Pajona
- 🎧Kingdom of Needle and Bone by Mira Grant
- Graveyard Shift by Angela Roquet
- Grim Girl by Nicky Graves
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My thanks to Penguin Audio, Inkubator Books, Crooked Lane Books, and Brilliance Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I got Homecoming King from the Audible Daily Deal at $3.95.
I got my Amazon First Reads for October that are free with Prime.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
Anne
Nice book haul. WOW $2.95 a gallon that is cheep it’s over $6 in CA. Glad I have a Prius, but still when I do have to fill it up it costs. Sounds like a productive week. Have a great day and happy reading!
Thanks Angela! My Volt can run on electric only so I don’t have to fill up unless I’m going to go on a longer trip. I get about 60 miles a day electric only. So it’s only the 2nd time this year I’ve filled up this year. We might go to the beach (ocean) this week which is about 2 hours away 120 miles so then I use some gas.
Very nice on the Volt. I think our next car is going to be electric, but that is a few years off. I’m thinking kid gets the Prius and we get a new car ^_^ when he starts to drive, but that is at least 6 years away.
Yeah, I never keep track of how much I’m paying for gas. just praying it drops and believing it will. Hope you have a great week:)
Thanks. I didn’t realize it would be such an interesting comment but then I almost never need gas using all electric.
The squirrels are making their nests with the chair stuffing! I love that. (We love our yard squirrels here) My oldest has a hybrid and I asked him yesterday when the last time he got gas was, and he said February! Crazy. Have a good week, Anne😁
Thanks Tammy. For me it was May but it’s still only the 2nd time I got gas. Mine will do 60 miles a day electric. The fact we stay home a lot and that it can run electric only means I use very little gas. You can have all my squirrels. I’ve long had a dislike for them. They are RODENTS. Plus they ruin some of my garden and now my patio chairs. I’d bring them to you except my friend used to do that but they find their way back. She would trap them and take them from St. Paul to Mpls but studies show they just have some kind of homing sense.
Gas here in Seattle is $4.25-$5 depending where you are. I can’t remember the last time it was under $3! Reading 30 books in a month is impressive. There’s no way I could listen to that many books with my current schedule. And I’m not sure I’d want to – I haven’t had good luck enjoying audio. You mention updating your COYER challenge list, but I couldn’t find it…..As I put mine together was just going to see what sort of format to use. I have no doubt you’ll crush it with the volume of books you read!
Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Thanks Terrie. I used a figure of 20 books per month that I would read at least 60 books. So I made a list of 100 books. Of course, I can read any book but other ones won’t count for COYER. I didn’t publish the list which I made in a spreadsheet copied from my planning spreadsheet. I can email you copies of both if you are interested but they get updated daily with various changes. Sometimes publishers change dates, sometimes I am moody and prefer to read one book more than another.
Also I’m so excited to have you joining COYER. There’s so much one can do and you can participate as little or as much as you want.
Neat that you’re getting re-blooms on several flowers. Nice that you got items done from your list even if the one order wasn’t much of what you needed and the window started leaking (always something to fix with a house). Thanks for the recipe. I had to really kick it in gear to get my COYER list worked out by the 1st. I’m hoping to read at least 50 of them. I was a little ambitious with the library part of it, but I ended my KU trial so I’ll have more time for library books now.
Glad you got only rain from Ian.
Have a great week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia! It was a process of making the list: ARCs, buddy reads, library holds, books for the RATs, a few from early January, my current KU list, Thrifty Thursday pick. Just picking the freebies I want to read for the HoHoHoRAT was a process. But I love planning so it wasn’t unpleasant.
Ooh, I loved Homecoming King, so ready for the next one in that series. The chair thing is weird! I know there are raccoons and cats in my backyard at times. I’ve never heard of them doing that though. Great month of reading! 30 books is awesome! Hope you have a good week!
Thank you Lisa. The neighbors are sure it is squirrels. It’s just weird it didn’t happen any other year because we have always had squirrels. It was a surprisingly good month. I’m not sure how that happened except maybe now that it’s cooler I’m walking more which allows more listening time?
I love the photo of little Lulu supervising you. You sure did a lot of reading this month, 30 books is very impressive. I hope you have a great week, Anne.
Thank you Wendy. Lulu lives to supervise or go on walks. I’m surprised it was that much reading but again not with the series in the month #SIAM.
Goodness me. Squirrels are quite something. Guess, that means they like you *lol* But way better than all the bird sh*t I am having in the garden …
I don’t know Vi. Birdshit can be washed off. It will cost a lot of replace or reupholster the chairs.
The flowers look good!! Sorry about the chair! That is crazy that squirrels could do that! Have a great week!
Thank you Samantha. I am not a fan of squirrels.
The flowers are beautiful! I’ve never seen a squirrel do that to a chair before. Wow!
Thanks Bonnie. Apparently the squirrels in our neighborhood are hard up.
What a wonderful reading month you had! I’m glad you were not in the direct path of Ian- poor puppy having to go out in the rain and wind though. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
Thank you Jodie. It was a good month, partly because of the #SIAM challenge and some freebies I was reading quickly.
That recipe sounds pretty good! I want to go make that now. 🙂 And we’ve had rogue squirrels getting into things too. Driving my cats nuts as the cats are indoor cats and can’t get at them. Glad Ian is not hittign you too hard although the flooding doesn’t sound good. Be safe!
Thank you Greg. They ruined a second chair last night. (: I don’t understand why this year when they haven’t at all other years.
Wow. You know, they’ve been very bold here too. coming up on the deck, taunting the cats lol, stealing tomatoes from our little vine… my grandpa woulda shot ’em lol.
I am glad that you didn’t have to deal with any more trouble with the hurricane. Although, a leaking window is bad enough. It sounds like you had a busy week. I am going to try to tackle the Naomi Novik series this month. I hope that you have a great week!
Thanks Carole. We were lucky not to have any big tree branches down or anything. My house sits at the top of a rise in the neighborhood so flooding isn’t much of an issue usually either. I really loved the series. My review of the third one is tomorrow.
Hope the squirrels or whatever they are don’t keep destroying your chairs!!
Thanks Nicole, the neighborhood is sure it is squirrels. They damaged all parts of another chair last night.
I love the picture of Lulu! She looks like she’s doing a good job supervising. I love irises. I’m not sure why I haven’t found a place to plant them here because they make me happy! Oh no on the chair. How frustrating! The Kendra Elliott books both look really good and she’s an author I’ve been wanting to read. Have a wonderful week!
Thank you Katherine. The squirrels obliterated another chair last night. Lulu is very smart. She’s more active on supervising lawn mowing though. She’s a steady supervisor of cooking. I highly recommend the Mercy Kilpatrick series by Kendra Elliot as a place to start.
It is a beautiful time of year here too! The leaves are changing and flowers are still blooming. This week we’re in the 80s but it cools off quickly. It’s nice to sit out on the porch and read. Glad to hear you weren’t in the path of Ian! What a storm! I want to try your recipe this week. Thanks for posting it!
Thank you Rachel. I hope you enjoy the sandwiches. Spring and fall are the most beautiful here and the winter doesn’t get very cold.
Urg – I’m with you regarding squirrels. They’re basically rats with fluffy tails… And where I used to live they used to do no end of damage – getting into lofts and chewing wiring, etc. The other day, I saw them in the garden for the first time, pinching nuts off my hazel tree *sigh*. Oh well… I love that you are getting a second flush of blooms on some of your plants – though you do seem to have a long growing seasons where you are. And huge congratulations on your reading this month – that is an impressive number of books!! I’ve also got hold of The Golden Enclave, though I’m so behind on Netgalley arcs right now, that I’ve put it on one side. Have a great week, Anne:)).
Thank you Sarah. We have a long season March until December really and some cool crops like broccoli, chard, or some herbs are year round. Some things like carrots and onions can be planted late and grow over winter for spring eating. I really love The Golden Enclaves and the whole series by Naomi Novik. My review is tomorrow.
You were really busy on Sunday!
There’s always plenty to do. Most of it is regular and boring like cleaning or laundry or shopping or cooking.
30 books?! You had an amazing reading month. Your flowers are so beautiful, I love seeing photos of your garden. Of course, the best photos are those of Lulu, I hope she didn’t get too blown about in the rough weather.
Thank you Louise. I love the long growing season here. I felt horrid sending Lulu out in the pouring rain and high winds to go even with her raincoat. I’ve ordered her a fake turf with a tray we can set up in the garage when the weather is really bad again; that can be easily cleaned and reused.
Aww squirrels. lol
If you’ve seen my Monday posts you know I like rats and most other rodents. I used to feed a wild rat that Ken found in the maintenance shop.
Sorry, they cause too much expensive damage for me to like them at all.
I love that photo of Lulu looking outside. My Lulu loves to do that too, but she also loves to bark at every dog that walks up the street. If we’re not prepared for it, she scares us every time. Lol. The weather here has been windy since Ian came through. Lulu hates walking in the rain so she’s been a bit of a slug this weekend.
Lulu often comes out with me to grill also. I felt so badly sending her out into pouring rain. I bought a little turf thing in a tray so we can teach her to go in the garage when it’s raining in the future.
I’m glad the raining seemed to last only for a day. I hope the pots helped and that there wasn’t any damage from your window leaking. It also sounds like you had a very productive week. I hope you have another good week! 😀
My Sunday Post
Thank you Jenni. We are still assessing the window and how to repair it.
Sounds like gorgeous weather at the beginning of last week even though Ian brought some rain later on. That’s terrible about the window leak! I hope you didn’t have any damage. I’m glad you shared the recipe for the chicken wrap. I hope to try it soon. Thirty books in September is amazing! I think I read 10. A slightly slower month for me but there were two books that took me longer than normal.
Thank you Tanya. We’re having a couple weeks not in the 60s-70s and I love it. No rain in sight til maybe end of next week. We are still assessing the window damage and how to repair it.
FINALLY got all my laundry done so I can switch to my winter and fall clothing 😀
That’s great because I think you’ll need it. I’m wearing long sleeve shirts and light jackets this week.
*groans* I have to do my bathrooms too, soon. Good haul of books you have there.
Thanks Role. I’m always so happy with my new reads.
Every time I see one of Butcher’s covers I think that there is a new Dresden. It’s just cruel! LOL. Glad the weather impacts were minimal. I love the picture of Lulu watching you outside. At this point it’s almost the end of this week and I don’t recall what I did last week – But this past week has been good. I was able to get up the fall decor. I need to still get pumpkins and mums for outside. I plan to do that Saturday.
I’m about halfway through the new Dresden Jr. Not sure if I like it yet or not. I seem to be in that state on multiple fronts right now. It’s just being too busy and tired I think.
Lulu’s on the case to find out what critter is tearing up your patio furniture💜
I’m so behind and just getting to your post. Glad your garden is still looking so nice. And, I’m kicking myself for not having started the Widow’s Island series.
Hope your week’s been great!
The Widow’s Island are novellas so you could catch up really fast if you choose. Each one is more like half a book. Lulu is more interested in kitchen supervising. She would certainly chase squirrels if she saw them. But there are coyotes in the area too so I’d rather keep her safe.
I need to borrow some of your productiveness. Your flowers are beautiful. Ooo! The Golden Enclaves! I hope you enjoy that one. I hope you have a good week!
Thank you Wendy. The past week was productive but it didn’t feel like it with emergency repairs needed. Still a lot got accomplished. I LOVED the Golden Enclaves.
