This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with main characters who are Reapers. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others. The team had to help me find some of these.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite Reapers series are (in no particular order):
Charley Davidson Arc of a Scythe Reaper
by Darynda Jones by Neal Shusterman by Donna Grant
Death Gate Grim Reapers Lana Harvey Reapers Inc. Grim Reaper
by Amanda M. Lee by Angela Roquet by Christopher Moore

I’ve always wanted to read Darynda Jones’ series😁
That’s the obvious elephant in the room. It’s a well known and loved series and easily the first to come to mind when one thinks about reapers. The list isn’t really long though.
I love Donna Grant’s Reaper series, it is a unique, sexy take on Reapers and is full of twists that keep me guessing! I also love Charley Davidson and her snarky life that keeps everybody on their toes! The Lana Harvey series is actually on my TBR, I haven’t read one of her books yet, but it sounds like one that I will enjoy and I know there are others that I have read, but I can’t seem to think of them, right now!
I was surprised by how much I liked the Donna Grant series. Overall there aren’t too many series about Grim Reapers so it was harder to find 6 I thought were of reasonable quality of reading.
I’ve only read the Charley Davidson series, but I have enjoyed several individual Grim Reaper stories. Fun spooky read character!
I’d only read Charley and the Arc of the Scythe when I started my research. Some of these were on my TBR as freebies though, along with a few others I didn’t select as favorites.
I love the Charley Davidson series. It has humor and great characters, as well as big bads and preventing the end of the world as we know it!
If Charley Davidson is the favorite, and I happen to win, please go on to the next person. I already have the physical book, e-book, and audiobook, which just goes to show how much I love it!
I’m glad to hear it’s a favorite for you.
I adore the Scythe series – it’s one of my faves because I love the characters 🙂
I enjoy how it’s a different version of how reapers work too.
I voted for Charley Davidson by Darynda Jones. I hope you enjoy which ever book wins!
Thank you Wendy. I’ve read all 6 of these series or they wouldn’t be here. Some series I have only read one book, and others like Charley Davidson and Art of the Scythe I have read the entire series.
I haven’t read any of these yet but I may try to tackle the Darynda Jones series next year.
It’s a good series and funny.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Charley! I haven’t read any of the others, but I did read the Black Wing series by Christina Henry. Main character Madeline Black is an Agent of Death, responsible for escorting the souls of the dearly departed to the afterlife. I loved it until I didn’t (I wasn’t happy with how it ended). Still worth a read.
Thanks so much for sharing about Christina Henry books I hadn’t heard of that series. This one was hard to find enough series to include.
OMG that ‘A Dirty Job’ looks so adorable!
It’s a series with a lot of humor, very different from some of the others listed with more romance or other genre styes.
Absolutely loved Charley Davidson. And also Donna Grant’s Reaper series.
They’re both good
I haven’t read any of your choices, although I do like Christopher Moore and I know I have got to read the Shusterman series soon! I added one series that I really liked, a YA series, Croak by Gina Damico.
The Shusterman series is one of my favorites. Sadly I did not like Croak. Somehow it was too YA for me.
