The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.  Last few days to enter the Blogoversary giveaway.

Sunday, was a hurry up load the car and get on the road.  I drove with Lulu to Ohio.  I’m headed to Illinois to pick up my daughter.  Lulu was a perfect companion.  The hotel here in Ohio is nice and we will stay here again on the way back.  They are dog friendly.   I finished one audiobook and listened to another one during the drive.  I wore my mask and got takeout meals.  I brought my air purifier for the hotel rooms.  It changes out the air 3 times an hour.

Monday,  I finally got to visit some of the Sunday posts and will try for more tonight or tomorrow.  Today is supposed to be nice, almost 80F.   Another day of driving but Lulu will be very happy to see my daughter.  I reached Peoria IL about 4:30p. At least, I got to do lots of audiobook reading. We all went out to dinner for a Vietnamese restaurant which had good gluten-free options.

Tuesday,  today is a rest day in Peoria.  I went to sleep earlyish so I woke up a bit earlier.  I’ve been catching up on Sunday visiting and blog visiting.  I took a quick trip to Menards and Aldi for a couple items.  Then Lulu helped me eat some leftover chicken fried rice while my daughter went to zoo with her dad.  It rained almost all day.  It did stop late in the day, but was too dark for loading the car. I was happy to stay in and catch up on various computer stuff. I wrote a review for Friday.  It’s going to be sunny tomorrow so I’ll just have to get up and do it in the morning.  We got pizza and garlic bread takeout and I made a salad.  My daughter showed me all the fun stuff she got at the zoo and other things from her trip.

Wednesday,  it cleared and was cold in the morning.  My daughter had to pick and choose what things to bring back because the car was fully loaded.   We left later than I wanted and had lots of stops but we managed pretty well. We did go to a great Thai place for lunch which was just yummy and within a mile of Sam’s club for gas..    The place we picked for dinner closed as we got there, but they let us get takeout.  It was just fair.  I coordinated the food and gas well so the day was shorter even though we had to go through Indianapolis which is driving hell.  I planned out a route to avoid it.

Thursday,  we were able to get going a little faster.  There were still a lot of annoying stops, for gas, for bottles of water, for food, and worst of all for road construction and accidents.  I did manage to finish 2 audiobooks, and get 49% into another one. We went quick with Firehouse Subs for lunch.  My daughter got Carrabba’s Italian pasta for dinner with a salad.  I just wasn’t hungry.  In the end, we were on the road 12 hours for a 7.5 hour drive, arriving home at 10pm.  With just Lulu and me, we made it in 9 hours last Sunday but we are really efficient with our stops.  I hauled in most of our stuff, cleaned out the cooler, ate an egg on toast, showered and went to bed.  Oh it’s so good to be home.

Friday,  I let myself sleep until I woke up.  Today will be plenty of laundry and computer cleanup on tasks.  Then there will be menu planning.  I was a week ahead and now I have nothing finished or ready for next week.  I’m just glad I was a week ahead because while I finished a lot of audiobooks while traveling, time to write reviews was scarce.  Lulu and I did a short walk.  I watered the garden, new sod and flowers.

Saturday, I had a relaxing morning finishing up a book.  Then while I started on chores I finished up an audiobook. Now I have some reviews to write.    I finally caught up with Feedly.  I felt lazy but I knew I needed to walk Lulu.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Marlene at  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you so much Hachette Audio,   Penguin Audio, Karen Grey,  and William Morrow.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

NOTHING.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. It makes me feel exhausted just to read about all of your travels. You were only about 2.5 hours from me during your trip! I am glad that Lulu did well on the trip. I hope that you have a nice calm week!

    • I’d love to have come see you. Peoria is 2.5 hours from you. Well the next time I hope we can get together for a soda or something. My niece lives in Hannibal MO. Lulu does awesome. She loves to look out the window. But she;s so excited she doesn’t eat much and then is so exhausted she sleeps like a log.

  2. I’ve been to Ohio by Greyhound. Quite memorable. I had the opportunity to learn about the appalacian people thanks to a friend who moved to Ohio from Mn. I hope you enjoy and tell us a lot about what you learned.

  3. Long drive! But perfect for listening to audiobooks. I wish my dogs would be good road trip buddies. I have lots of summer trips I’d like to take on my own, but can’t take them, so can’t afford to board them for that long. Sounds like your daughter had a good time with her dad too. And I love Lulu’s pictures too! Does she just ride in the seat on her own? That’s awesome! Oh, had to go download one of the free books you got too!

    • It was a lot of driving which is rather exhausting. Lulu does sit in a bed we have on the seat. It has a leash to hook her in like a seat belt. We love to have her with us and she’s always well behaved. It gives us a reason to stretch our legs or walk a bit too.

  4. Glad your road trip went well, Lulu looks like the perfect companion. The air purifier is a good idea.
Happy reading this week and Happy Halloween.

    • Thank you. Everything went well enough. Lulu is the perfect companion. Of course, partly because she doesn’t express any opinions or complaints! My daughter needs more stops and more food than I do on a trip which makes for a longer drive. The air purifier is a nice size and has its own duffle bag which is a perfect fit.

  5. Glad you got there and back safe and sound. Had to chuckle about the difference one extra traveler makes. Way to go getting a week ahead on the posts and then slipping in all the audio listens. Hopefully you’ll have some time to review them soon. I love being back home after a long trip or visit even if there is a lot to catch up.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  6. Road trips can be challenging, but it sounds like this one went pretty well, all things considered. (And honestly, given what I’ve heard about flying these days, I’d rather drive, even though it takes longer.) I’m glad you, your daughter, and Lulu are all home safe and sound, and I hope everyone stays healthy.

    Have a happy Halloween!

  7. Whew – what a trip!! I’m not so great with those LONG drives – I tend to doze off 🙁 Looks like you got some good books this week -A Killing of Innocents looks good. (I’m making progress on my COYER challenge – I’ve read a dozen so far but realized I forgot to link any of them to the challenge linky. So many details 🙂
    Thanks for the visit.

  8. I’m glad you were able to get to Illinois and back safely. I used to love long drives, but they make me very anxious now for some reason. I’m glad you were able to find food options, especially with the gluten-free restriction. When I was gluten free for 18 months a few years ago, it was hard to find places to eat.

  9. It is nice when you find good places to stay or eat on the road. I’ve had Firehouse subs once I think, and I’m fond of Carabba’s. 🙂 Glad you got home okay. I wouldn’t mind trying a Vietnamese place, and we have a Thai place by us but I’d like more variety.

  10. I forgot about the Man Hands series – I really liked it.

Glad you are home and somewhat settled. How happy is Lulu? I had a good weekend. Saturday I went on a college tour with my daughter (she’s 11th grade, but interested in looking), and then we had a group over to watch college football. On Sunday, I went to Boston to see the musical Hairspray. I’m beat now and didn’t exercise much this weekend. I’m looking forward to a fun week.

  11. What a trip! Lulu looks so sweet and looks like she’s a great buddy to take along. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead and enjoy all your new books!

  12. When we had to go back and forth from Southern California to Northern California all the time we got a lot of audiobooks done too. Your trip home that should’ve taken 7.5 hours and ended up taking 12 sounds like a lot of my Sunday trips home. Just had one of those coming back from Texas two weeks ago. Our 9am flight got canceled when we were already boarded in our seats and we had to schedule another one on the fly which didn’t leave until 1:30 and landed at a different airport from what we took off from. What a dang nightmare! I’ve come to realize over the last 5 years, traveling on a Sunday is not advisable. Especially if you are flying. Sound like you made the most of your driving at least. It is lovely to be home, right?

I’m looking forward to that Bromance book too.

    • Well only A Killing of Innocents is from Netgalley, the audios came from the publishers and the other eARC from the author. I normally have a list of things I want to read and try to get for review. Often, they are next in series I am reading which all 4 of those are. But sometimes I pick something new that sounds interesting.

    • It was a lot of driving. Lulu seems to like it, at least she adapts very well. My daughter says she is excited by seeing everything. I think she might be a little stressed because she almost never eats her breakfast when we are traveling and at the end of the day she is dead to the world, so she’s exhausting herself. She’s always very well behaved though. We got home safely and I was able to listen to a bunch of audiobooks.

  13. Sounds like an exhausting week! That’s great that Lulu is such a good traveler. Makes for good company! I hope you have a wonderful week and get caught up on rest!

  14. I’ve only traveled a few times since Covid and I’ve been not fully comfortable in hotels. We take Clorox wipes and go crazy wiping everything down. How smart to take your air purifier. The return drive sounded long and frustrating. I don’t mind stopping for food/drinks/gas, but road construction is always a pain. Ah, the post-trip laundry… that’s always an undertaking. 😊 But nothing beats being back home sleeping in your own bed. Hooray for getting through several audio books while on the road!

    • Thank you Tanya. yes I do the wipes and I spray down the shower / bath area, and the air purifier. I really do much better with allergies, etc now that we have them. It’s frustrating to be on an Interstate and not moving at all. I can stand regular roads where I have to take turns on a lane or something where yes I’m stopped for 10 minutes or something. It let me read some fun audiobooks but now I have to get back to my ARCs. The books are all fun but sometimes it’s nice to just read a library book or something I own and not write a whole review. For us it’s more being home and having our own food we know is safe to eat (gluten free) and not having to take more time to find food.
