Sunday Post – 25 December 2022 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

Posted December 24, 2022 by Anne - Books of My Heart in Sunday Post / 41 Comments

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.  Once Upon a December giveaway ends Monday night.

Sunday,  I always love to go visit everyone and see how they are doing.  It’s a hectic time of year though.  I look forward to the slow down later in the week and next week.  But the temperature dropped 10 degrees since yesterday with another 20 or so by the end of the week. We might even get snow on Thursday! My daughter was still up at 11am because she was hurting.  Then Lulu and I took a medium walk. I bundled up and was comfortable.  I cleaned up my email inbox going through email review requests.  I updated my challenge linkups for mid month. I even wrote some reviews.

Monday,  the top 10 is starting.  I cheat and have 20 between Monday and Tuesday. My Monday list has audiobooks too.  There were SO many books, lots of 4.5 heart books but I had to pick between the 5 heart books!  I walked Lulu.

Tuesday, I got going so Lulu would have more time before we put her back in the crate.  My daughter was still up and didn’t sleep at all over night.  We went to the dentist so my daughter got her two cavities filled.  We got home quickly and ate a late lunch / early dinner so my daughter could go to bed.  I was glad to have time to work on things. I watched a bunch of interviews with Charlie Hunnam about Shantaram.  I’ve been doing a lot of email cleanup between bigger tasks.

Wednesday,  another morning where I worked on things before we left for my daughter’s chiro / massage.  She told me when she woke up that after the fillings, now her retainer doesn’t fit, so we scheduled an appointment Friday for a fix.   I went to Sam’s Club for a few items.  I was surprised how things were in stock and while there were lots of people, it wasn’t too bad.

Thursday,  a day at home with rain.  Even with working as fast as I could, it didn’t feel like I got enough finished. I made Lulu a batch of food.

Friday, neither of us slept long enough. But we had to get going back to the dentist so they could file the filling a bit so her retainer fit.  I was afraid Lulu wouldn’t eat her morning oatmeal before we left but she did. We ran 2 quick errands and came home.  The temperature dropped all day and the wind was very strong, so windchill made it even colder. After I went to bed, my daughter decorated the mantle and put lights on the tree.  Lulu is scared of the tree and also the air purifier so it is comical to watch her try to get around them in the living room.

Saturday, the Internet was out when I went to bed. I saw the AT & T truck and talked to him but he said everyone has to put in their own outage call.  I put in the call which had a 90 minute call back.  I tried the usual fiddles but nothing worked.  I listened to my audiobook and knitted until they called back.  They said maybe today, maybe Monday or Tuesday.  So then I fiddled around and got my laptop connected to my iphone thru Bluetooth.  All told 3 hours I’ll never get back.  It’s working but slow.   I’m grateful to have options and heat.  I haven’t wrapped gifts yet, so either tonight or tomorrow before my daughter gets up.   Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Because Reading is better than real life

Bonus round – Read a Series in a Month  January 2023:

We are doing the entire Night Rebel series for Series in a Month (#SIAM) in January,  posting on Sundays. We will have a review for the books with the team here at Books of My Heart plus some of our friends.  We are following the author recommended reading order.    If you want to read about the COYER challenge #SIAM, click the image on the right for the full details.    I won’t start reading until January 1, so it counts for this #SIAM.

Jan 8:    Shades of Wicked              –  Carole @ Carol’s Random Life in Books

Jan 22:    Wicked Bite                        –  Robin

Feb 5:       Wicked All Night             –   Anne

These are Sunday posts.      There will be one COYER FB Chat at the end of the series on Feb 5th.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Marlene at  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My special thanks to Minotaur Books, Berkley,  Nancy Yost Literary,  and PRH audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I used my No Rush Rewards to purchase this one.   I picked up the $1.99 deal o Bayou Moon.  I owned all the rest of the series on ebook, and already own them all on audio but it’s Ilona Andrews so I need multiple formats.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Bummer about losing power for so long. Way to go getting your errands and even the email cleanup project done. Hope your daughter feels better and the new dental work does the trick.

    Have a fabulous Christmas, Anne!

    • I’m surprised how much you have commented on posts and things this week Tammy. I hope everything is going great with the unpacking and setting up in your new home. Yes Lulu is afraid of the tree and the air purifier and tall men and loud noises. But she adores children! And sweaters and blankets. She’s a rescue so some caution is probably smart. She’s safe with us though. Merry Christmas Tammy!

  2. Happy Holidays! Glad you have heat too, life without internet is tough. I couldn’t find my power charger for my laptop and I was going ballistic, lol. Tree looks great.

  3. Merry Christmas, Anne!! Your living room looks beautiful with the tree and the mantle. That is too cute that Lulu is afraid of the tree and the air purifier.

  4. I know just what you mean about looking forward to the slow down of the hectic pace. I told my husband last night that I felt like a weight was off my shoulders and I could relax and breathe. I love the holidays, but it’s also busy, with endless lists of things to do and demands on your time. I’m ecstatic to get back to my regular schedule. The photo of your tree and mantle is so pretty. Hope you got those gifts wrapped. 🙂 And that you get your internet service restored! Merry Christmas, Anne.

    • Thank you Tanya. I put the gifts in bags and luckily my daughter liked her gifts. There wasn’t as much since she got a new laptop and a new phone already this year which is some real dollars. She is great and doesn’t expect too much. She did all the decorating and made a bunch of the ornaments and decorations herself. The Internet seems to be back now mid-day let’s hope it lasts.

  5. How many hours does you day have, Anne? I envy you in a positive way. Respect. Thank you for the lovely pictures. I love the one with the Christmas tree. Have a peaceful time between the years and happy reading. Guess, we see us at the Thrifty Challenge …. *smile*

  6. The holidays can be a tough time of year. I hope your Christmas was nice. My daughter decorated our tree too or it might not have gotten done lol!

Stay warm and be well this week.

    • Thank you Greg. My daughter does all the decorating and for the last few years she makes some new handmade ornaments every year as she loves crafting. She already has decided on her plan for next year. The temperature luckily is warming up every day this week and will be near 70! later in the week.

  7. I hope that you get your internet back soon! It is amazing how much we need it anymore. It sounds like you had a pretty busy week. I hope that things warm up for both you and me this coming week. Enjoy all of your new books!

    • Well it wasn’t working this morning until around 10 but I’ve been on the Internet since then. It was similar yesterday and when I went to do something else, it was down again all night. So who knows? I hate not knowing if it will be available. Yes it is warming up every day and will be near 70! by the end of the week.

  8. Oh how frustrating about the internet! I hope you’re able to get back online soon. Poor Lulu! I’m sure she’ll be glad when the tree goes away. My daughter’s dog is suddenly afraid of her dishwasher for no apparent reason so now she won’t go in the kitchen. It’s always interesting to see how dogs’ minds work. I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy your reading.

    • Thank you Katherine. The Internet was out until about 10am and now it’s been working, but we got 2 hours yesterday and then it was down all night, so who knows? I shouldn’t laugh about the dog’s being afraid but it just hits me as so funny. We don’t make her go near it or anything mean like that. She seems to be adapting to the air purifier now that it’s been in that spot (it used to be where the tree is).

    • Thank you. The Internet was back for about 2 hours yesterday then down until about 10am today. It’s still up now at 3:30 but who knows? I don’t like the ambiguity of it. There are some things which don’t work or don’t work well over mobile hotspot. We did end up at McDonalds in the car Christmas night so my daughter could download some stuff that is only available 1-2 days a year. But the weather is getting warmer every day. So from 10 to 70! by the end of the week.

  9. Sweet Lulu💜

How odd that AT & T wouldn’t redirect the tech since he was already in the neighborhood. Geez. With Spectrum, I’ve gotten used to hotspotting with their frequent outages though they’ve been better in recent months.

I’m hoping to get the audio version of the Lexie Elliott book. It sounds pretty interesting.

Enjoy the week and hope you had a great Christmas💜

    • Thank you Jonetta. The Internet is still wonky and no text updates yet. It does seem better with the weather warming. It worked a couple hours in the day yesterday and now today, but was out again last night. I may also get the audio for it, but I don’t always know if I can get things so I sort of take what I can get.

  10. We had a warm Christmas–79F, I think the high was. It’s cooled off since then and we got a little rain the day before last. I am hoping for more today or tomorrow. It seems like the rest of the country was cold and stormy over Christmas weekend. I really feel for those who lost power and had to brave the cold. Maybe I will read more Ilona Andrews this coming year. I still have so much catching up to do with my series reading. That’s a good problem to have. 🙂 I hope you are having a good week!
