New York Times and #1 Audible bestselling author, Jeremy Robinson, explores an alternate reality in which the events of Project Nemesis, soon to be a TV series from Chad Stahelski (director of John Wick 1-4) and Sony Pictures Television, played out very differently, creating a horrific and thrilling new world where sacrifice and vengeance are part of everyday life.
From the ashes of a devastated Boston, a harrowing legend emerges. Thirteen years prior, the colossal kaiju, Nemesis, ravaged the city in her relentless pursuit of retribution. Today, mankind's survival teeters on the sacrificial offerings atop a chilling monolith known as The Altar, where the condemned pay the ultimate price to prevent Nemesis's wrath from consuming humanity.
Agent Graham, a grizzled operative on the brink of retirement, finds himself tethered to the fiery, untested Agent Tilly. Together, they are the unlikeliest of partners within the Nemesis Special Operations group, the government's first line of defense against the looming shadow of the massive Goddess of Vengeance. Their mission? To hunt down the enigmatic cult, Divine Retribution, before they can harness the devastating power of Nemesis to reshape the world to their warped sense of righteousness.
As Graham and Tilly plunge into Boston's darkest underbelly, they face more than just the echoes of their city's past. They must outwit cunning cultists, battle impossible monsters on the windswept beaches of Martha's Vineyard, and forge an unexpected alliance with the motley and formidable all-female biker gang inspired by the Queen of Monsters, the 'Nemesisters.' Every step drives them closer to the unthinkable and asks the questions:
How many must be sacrificed to save the world from the ever-watchful gaze of Nemesis? How many more will she demand when the world needs to be saved?
Nemesis was an interesting story. It was on sale at Audible and I’ve read this author before and I liked him, so I decided to give this a try. I didn’t know much about Nemesis going into this story, I guess there’s a series outside of this book. This book can be read without having read that series, because that is exactly what I did. This book stands alone in the universe of the Nemesis Saga.
Nemesis is a creature who seeks retribution with unwavering determination. She goes after anyone she sees has done wrong. This story takes place after society has learned to live with her. If you don’t do wrong, she will leave you and the city alone. If there is someone who’s done horrible things, then she will come and trash the city looking for this person (think Godzilla). So, now there’s a department that hunts down these people and then puts them on an altar for her, so that she takes just that one person, instead of the city.
This was a fun story that I wasn’t sure about when I first started. I’ve read Jeremy Robinson before and like his work, so when I grabbed this one, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have to say I enjoyed the story. I loved the characters. You have a gruff old Graham who is near retirement (I don’t know how old he actually was, but I got the feeling it wasn’t like what we think of retirement age, but younger. This job is hard on a person). He’s also got his young trainee, Maigo. She really gets under his gruff exterior to become a true friend. There are more, but I won’t go into them. I loved all the characters in the story.
The story is action packed with great characters and an interesting plot. I had a great time with this story and it made me want to look up the original series to learn more about Nemesis. I’ve never read anything with a Godzilla-like feel to it, so this was my first story like that. And I have to say I enjoyed it more than I would’ve thought. Honestly, if I knew this was a Kaiju story (think Godzilla, King Kong, Mothra, etc), I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. But I’m glad I did because I loved these characters and I found the plot to be very interesting.
Narration:
If you’ve never listened to RC Bray, you’re really missing out. I’ve listened to him perform several different stories and they are always amazing. He is a 5 star listen for me every time. I feel he can take an okay story and truly make it better with his ability to bring the story to life.

Oh you have made me curious. Great review!
Hmmmm… this sounds really interesting. Now I wonder what the original series is about if this one is such a good standalone.
I DO like Godzilla…….
