Sunday, I took Lulu out promptly to do all her business before the rain started. It was very windy and now strong rain and thunder. I did some visiting, setup some posts, wrote review and did the edit and scheduling of a few posts. The bad weather kept us inside and not walking.
Monday, it’s a cool day, with scattered rain. I need to get organized for a major errand run tomorrow. I finished up with the edit/schedule of some more posts, and got a few more set up. We walked Lulu and ran into the neighbor and Abbey, Clover and Maggie were outside to say hi also. The sun came out and it warmed up. I finished the menu plan where I continue to try to use things in inventory.
Tuesday, I managed to pare down the errands for the day a little. I went to Joanns and some things they are totally out of stock. I bought some fabric for a quilt I am making. It’s sad as I have shopped there for most of my life. It was my top stop on Black Friday when I used to go out for shopping. I picked up an Rx at a specialty pharmacy for my daughter, shopped at Wegmans (got a good deal on cage-free eggs for $3.99/dozen, most places are $5-7), pickup at Sam’s Club. I stopped at home to put things away, then went right back out to Harris Teeter for more Rx and a couple sale items. Then we walked Lulu. My daughter’s new shoes came and she wore those, plus also a second set of inserts. We had the first 2 asparagus shoots with dinner!
Wednesday, a warm day at home where I hope to do lots of things. Well, I did some but I also went down a rabbit hole trying to organize all my passwords which are written on multiple pieces of paper. I did manage to do some laundry, dishes and vacuuming. After dinner, I processed our rotisserie chicken into white and dark meat so I can make soup or chicken pot pie for us and Lulu’s food. One of these days I’ll take the skin and bones I throw out and try making my own stock. Almost everything indoors is blooming, African violets and cactus.
Thursday, a nice morning with rain ahead in the afternoon. I perused Netgalley and apparently I hadn’t for a few weeks as it took a long time and there were many new releases I hadn’t noticed yet. We walked Lulu early after lunch because there will be thunderstorms by mid afternoon. I wrote some reviews. Then I spent some time updating the social media icons for following and on the post notifications mostly to remove Twitter and update for Bluesky.
Friday, it’s much cooler today. I picked up branches that fell in the yard overnight. More of the SDB iris are blooming. The only thing so far from seeds is lettuce and now snow peas. There are about 5 more asparagus that should be ready in a day or so. I think some broccoli is ready now. I got some of the Netgalley requests I put in yesterday. We walked Lulu. She went up into a neighbor’s yard to see Maggie. Then we saw the neighbor and Abbey on the walk home. We cut the first broccoli to have with dinner.
Saturday, I stayed up late reading again so I didn’t get going as early as I would like. I went to the democratic precinct meeting. Then I helped my daughter work on a paper for her class, doing minor edits. We went back to CVS to spend the last of this quarter’s dollars and use a coupon for a free item, then picked up a couple items at Aldi. We Lulu out and Marley came over to see us and race around the yard with Lulu. We walked Lulu and she said hi to Maggie. The weather is really nice.

I chose my March First Reads book.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
Chirp Friday Freebies:
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Aww Lulu. Your plants are looking nice. We went to JoAnn’s again and there’s no RedHeart left but they did re-stock the BigTwist.
Thank you Naida. There was no yarn and not much other than fabric at the store I visited.
I love the asparagus, it looks so funny the way it grows, but I’ll bet it tastes good. Lulu’s cute face always makes me smile! Have a good week, Anne😁
Thanks Tammy. It’s a little weird in this early growth of asparagus we just get a few spread out stalks. Hopefully they will eventually where to grow more thickly. Lulu is the best.
It sounds like it was a very productive week!! I need to get to Joanns. Maybe tomorrow afternoon Wyatt and I will bop up to ours.
Based on the store I saw Joanns won’t be around long. I am so sad.
We got that crazy rain and wind last weekend as well. The plants are looking good! I’m jealous of everyone posting their pretty plant pictures!
Those perennials are no work hardly at all, that’s why I put them in the first year. But the garden that’s been a lot more effort. We need some rain for the plants but the wind is not a plus.
I have never seen aspargus in gardens so I am curious to watch what yours will look like in the soil Anne!
Well I posted photos this week and last week, where solo stalks are shooting up.
Neat how you’re using up your home-stocked items. Looks like you caught some good sales at the various stores, too. Yum that you’re already eating some of your garden produce.
Have a good week, Anne!
yes we are eating asparagus and broccoli. Another month and lettuce, spinach and chard will be more available. I want to go to the farmer’s market this week for some herb plants. Some of mine didn’t make it with the cold snaps we had over winter.
It was about 55 here yesterday and today it’s a high of 35 and the wind is so strong, the “real feel” is in the low 20s. Brrr. Several of my early spring bulbs have shoots, so I hope it doesn’t drop too low and kill them off. I need spring flowers in my life!
That is cold! We are definitely in spring mode with frost no longer likely and more like 60-70 days and 40-50 nights.
We are having our typical spring weather here with a nice dash of tornado warnings but for now it seems to be staying around 70 which I’m very much enjoying. I’m so curious to see what you think of the Ruth Ware book. I loved Cabin 10 but am not sure this is a character I want to spend time with again. Have a great week and give Lulu some pets!
Lo Blacklock is pretty unconventional, not how I would work. But she has a kid now I think. So we will see. yes we will be around 70 all week and I like that.
Aww Lulu. My dog is loving the warmer weather and just wants to stand out in the sun with his eyes closed. It makes me laugh each time he does it. I just looked at NetGalley too. I requested a few books.
Those sun spots are addictive for them. I hope you get your requests!
Awww…Lulu is a cutie. I read All We Buried awhile ago and really liked it. I hope you enjoy all your books. Have a great week!
Thank you Yvonne. I really enjoyed the Fiona Tarr books I have read so far.
You’ve had a busy week! I have broccoli but I don’t know if its ready. There’s some flowers one of the stocks though. Love your irises. I always forget to plant them. I need to do some research on them, but I like the fact that they come back year after year, like bulbs. I’m looking forward to The Maid’s Secret. I’m pondering that Ruth Ware. The heroine was TSTL in the first book, but it was an interesting read.
I like those SDB (standard dwarf bearded irises since they only get about 12 inches high so they are nice for front of border. Well hopefully Lo Blacklock has learned something from her initial stay in Cabin 10.
Sounds like a lovely week. My freebies never seem to get read. Maybe one day. Have a great week!
Thanks Carla. I have needed to plan reading the freebies. I do a Thrifty Thursday post once a month and encourage anyone to join me and the meme who wants.
I’m reading The Maid’s Secret this week. I’m interested in India Holton’s series.
I hope the asparagus is tasty.
Wishing you a great reading week
Thank you! The asparagus is tasty! I won’t be reading those 2 – India Holton and Nita Prose for another week or so, as I’m a bit behind again.
Beautiful iris! And thank you for the Lulu photo; I missed seeing her last week.
I haven’t done much sewing in years, but when I do, JoAnne’s was always where I went. There isn’t another good option for fabric closer than an hour away. (Well, other than the paltry half-aisle at Walmart.) There’s a quilt shop about 35 minutes from here, but they mostly carry quilt fabric. My only local options are Michaels (embroidery thread, but no fabric) and Hobby Lobby (which I refuse to shop at.)
I agree. I won’t shop at Hobby Lobby. There is another store locally I may try (10mi away) but the rest of the places are quilt fabric not clothes fabric.
I love 1Password for storing all my passwords. It’s not free but at least I only need to remember one password. Have a great week!
Thanks. I may end doing something like that.
I wanna do a garden this year.
It’s a lot of work but we really like the fresh veggies and herbs. We are getting better at figuring it out.
I really like seeing all the pictures of your garden, it looks so pretty! Yay for your first vegetable from your garden as well. That’s a shame that store you like is going away and some things were out of stock already. I usually check netgalley a few times a week to see what releases are coming up and request any I want, nice you got some of your request approved already, I like it when that happens and I don’t have to wait too long.
Thank you Lola. It’s a trial and error process with the garden. April should see some more veggies we can eat, lettuce and swiss chard will be ready soon. I only manage to get to Netgalley about once a week and sometimes miss things.
I could never do a menu plan from the inventory in my house because I don’t keep much these days, lol. I love African violets, they used to be my grandpa’s favorite and I always bought one every year at the Flower, Lawn & Garden show when we all went with my aunts and him. Of course I could never keep it alive and that’s why I got a new one every year, lol. Just checking back to see what I missed from last week’s posts!
Thanks Lisa. My grandma always had African violets and mine died also. I think I have it now and these I have had a few years and they bloom every month.
