On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, "normal" is a bit of a stretch for Dina.
And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night....Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.
I was thrilled to be asked by Anne of Books of My Heart to participate in the read-along for the Innkeeper Chronicles and share my thoughts. May kicks off the first book and after reading it, I can wait to continue on with a book a month for the next few months.

There are other options in the rafflecopter for you to enter discussion questions and quotes to share.

- I’m looking forward to seeing Sophie, George and Jack in the Innkeeper series!
- George and Jack continued to steal the show! I wish we had a book just on them with Sophie. Maybe someday.
Quotes you readers shared from Steel’s Edge:
“”You!” A white glow sheathed George’s eyes.” Two weeks! I spent two weeks watching Parris, and you screwed it up for me. All you had to do was stay out of the way and watch for his people coming out. What the hell did you do? ”
“Kaldar blinked. “Who are you?”
“I’m Charlotte,” she told him.
“A pleasure. Say, Charlotte, have you seen Richard? A brooding fellow about as tall as me, but much uglier and incapable of humor?”

Reading this book contributed to these challenges:
- 25-Audio
- 25-COYER
Loved seeing what you thought of this one, Barb. Yeah, tough that the dogs got attacked. Love Dina, Sean, Arlan, and the sentient inn!
I’m so excited we are reading this one now.
Great review. I’m behind on this challenge, but I’ll get caught up.
I’m sure you can do it because these are all amazing. The Graphic audio are great too and they are shorter.
Thanks for asking me to participate. I really loved this one!
Thanks so much for sharing your review and thoughts. I’m so excited to have you on the Read-along.
This is my fourth time reading the book. It has become my absolute favorite series of all time. I wanted to immediately start the next book again, even though I know what happens. LOVE THIS SERIES! Thanks for your review.
Thanks so much for reading it with us. I love it so much. It’s never too often to read an Ilona Andrews series. I kind of hoped we’d get a new book at the end of this year but I doubt it with the new role playing game thing they are doing now.
Unfortunately, I missed out on this challenge
Well we have only done the first book in the second series. You could easily join us now if you want. Plus this first book was very short.
I just finished Clean Sweep and loved it all over again! Great review, Barb! Kate Daniels continues to be one of my favorite series and I love this one so much, too! I really hope to make the chat on Sunday!
Rachel I am so happy you were able to join the chat. I love this series in every format but you should try at least one on Graphic audio.
I’ve been saving the Graphic Audio of these to listen to until they are all out. I’m so glad that I can do it in a reread with the group.
When I read this the first time I remember how much I loved Gertrude Hunt and wanted to go visit it. Caldenia is one of my all time favorite side characters. She adds a nice touch to this story.
yes! I am reading on Graphic Audio this time. I do think they will have at least one more book for a few reasons (no spoilers here). I hoped it would be later this year but with the LITRPG story right now I think it won’t be this year. I love love love the humor in these.
I didn’t realize they had another installment series going. I read it all yesterday! So now I’m caught up and and eagerly awaiting the next installment.
I wouldn’t really call it LITRPG…it is a little more on the scifi side for IA but still their writing is shining through and it has been wonderful. Love the MC is in her 40s, so refreshing.
Thanks for sharing that Robin. I just haven’t had a chance to get going on it. That’s unusual for me. I love scifi.
This is such a fun series! I first discovered them early in lockdown and they gave me much-needed giggles. I’ve read them several times since then and am looking to another visit to Gertrude Hunt. 🙂
Thank you Kate. They are so much fun. The humor is a real key to me. Plus the pacing is good with never a dull moment.
This is such a fun and exciting new series! I absolutely LOVE Clean Sweep!
I love it too Elizabeth. Thanks for reading with us and don’t forget to enter the giveaways.
It’s wild how many books Ilona Andrews has out! Love it!
They are my favorite so there can’t be too many books.
It is amazing how many books IA has out that are FANTASTIC!!! I have read them over and over and love them more each time.
I am still reading with you! But I have fallen behind with other reviews, so I’m just going to enjoy reading these. I’d forgotten a bit how much I enjoyed this series.
I understand. It’s been years since I read them and I’m so happy to read them all together rather than years apart. Glad to hear you are enjoying it.
