The demonic horde that threatened to devour the world has been defeated, but at great cost.

Plagued by guilt and nightmares, Serovek Pangion sets out to deliver the soulless body of the monk Megiddo to the heretical Jeden Order for safekeeping. Accompanying him is sha-Anhuset, the Kai woman he admires and desires most--a woman barely tolerant of him.

Devoted to her regent, Anhuset reluctantly agrees to act as a Kai ambassador on the trip, even though the bold margrave known as the Beladine Stallion gets under her skin like no other, and Anhuset fears he'll worm his way into her armored heart as well.

But guilt and unwelcome attraction are the least of their problems. The demons thought vanquished are stirring again, and a warlord with blood-soaked ambition turns a journey of compassion into a fight for survival. When the Beladine king brands Serovek a traitor, Anhuset must choose between sacrificing the life of a man she's grown to love and abandoning lifelong fealty to the Kai people.

A tale of loyalty and acceptance.

The Ippos King is the third book in The Wraith Kings series.  I read Radiance, the first book in this series, back in 2015 where once upon a time a Mollusk and an Eel fell in love and absolutely decided Grace Draven books and I were going to be fast friends.  The remains true in The Ippos king, where another Mollusk and Eel fall in love.

Serovek isn’t really a mollusk, but he is human with pink soft skin and eyes that dart everywhere disturbingly.  He is a Wraith king, one of the men who gave up their bodies for a time to fight a supernatural foe.  He lost a friend and warrior monk in the last battle and it is time to return his body to the monastery and his brothers.  Brishen can’t go on this journey to return the man who saved them all but will send his second in his place.

Anuset is from an elder race.  They are sometimes compared to Eels due to the grey color of their skin, the yellow sheen of their eyes and how deadly they can be.  Aneset has made fun of her cousin in the past over his besottedness over his human wife.  She is about to get her nose rubbed into all of that as she falls for Serovek on this journey.

If you’ve read the other books of this series, you knew this was coming as the chemistry between the two was palpable.  On this journey, they will be thrown into danger and both Serovek and Anuset will have opportunities to shine.  This is definitely a romantasy where the romance and fantasy of the story are almost equal.  Serovek is so easy to fall in love with.  Sure he is manly and full of vigor, but he never tries to make Anuset feel less than or like she needs to diminish herself to make him feel more powerful.  He takes her intuition seriously and trusts her implicitly.  It is refreshing the way their relationship builds.  There are plenty of exciting fights along the way as well.

If you are looking for something with a good blend of both romance and a strong fantasy world, I would highly recommend this series.

“I don’t know how you weak humans ever got this far.” “We’re cunning, feral, and afraid of dying.”

About Grace Draven

I’m an author and Louisiana native living in Texas with my husband, three smalls and a big doofus dog. I have lived in Spain, hiked the Teton Mountains, honeymooned in Scotland, ridden in competition rodeo and am the great great granddaughter of a Nicaraguan president. I also hate doing laundry and refuse to iron anything.

I’ve loved storytelling since forever. I published my first short story with Amber Quill Press and have since written several other tales. A love of the bad boy in fiction always inspires me.

    • I think the only negative thing I have to say about Radiance was the audio was horrible. It is one of the few books I stopped the audio and just read the book. But it was such a win for me I thought it was worth it.
