Sunday, well of course I am having problems with my oven. I bought a thermometer last week and the first night I heated it to 425 and the thermometer said 425 and everything was fine. But last night I wanted to bake chicken thighs to make a batch of Lulu food. After preheating for 20 minutes it only was at 150. So I shut it off and baked them in my Toaster oven / air fryer thing which worked fine. I already did a bunch of research online and on Consumer Reports to find the model I think I want. This week I will have to go look at them. To be fair, this gas oven was original with the house and is 24 years old. It’s not urgent to replace as the burners work and I have the Toaster oven thing but they do all seem to be on sale this week. We haven’t had rain since June 4th and we should have some today! I can’t believe June is ending. I look forward to a lighter week on medical appts with the holiday week. I found out that no one has the model I want in store to go see it. I spent too much time trying to confirm details with Lowe’s about delivery & installation. Then I thought about maybe my neighborhood electrician / plumber could do it. He will do it for a reasonable amount and even haul away the old one where Lowes charges $50. So I have that set up for Friday. It’s been raining some – YAY.
Monday, the wind is out of the north and after all the rain it is much cooler. I worked on wrapping up giveaways and writing some reviews. I walked Lulu on the medium route by the pool. After dinner, I went out with Lulu and pulled weeds while she did some wandering.
Tuesday, the weather is still nice. I did a bit of the usual computer stuff and found I had an invite to read Sanctuary by Ilona Andrews! Then I went out and mowed the lawn, and pulled more stubborn weeds. I spread Diatomaceous Earth which is supposed to deter pests including snakes. I took a quick shower and went off to appts. I had an ultrasound, CT Cardiology scan and a bone density scan. They were fast and efficient. I went to Aldi’s for a few items, then a pickup at BJs. I put everything away and then hauled out all the garbage / recycle / yard waste for tomorrow.
Wednesday, another day of doing all I can, with decent weather. In the afternoon, my daughter had a PT appt. Then we did a Walmart pickup and went to Harris Teeter for a couple of her Rx. I walked Lulu before dinner. After dinner, Abby came to stay with us for the next 10 days. She sleeps in Lulu’s beds and Lulu sleeps in hers. Lulu left her a toy. Some fireworks tonight.
Thursday, Lulu got me up early. The weather today will be hot and humid, so we are walking early. I looked at children’s books for Jay and want to buy him all of them. It was really nice in the late morning so Abby, Lulu and I walked the medium route to the pool. In the afternoon, I worked on a baby quilt. We got a farm box today and enjoyed the fresh green beans and sweet corn with dinner. The stove will be delivered 12:30-4:30pm tomorrow. The fireworks were minimal and over by 10, maybe everyone has to work tomorrow?
Friday, I got going and walked Abby and Lulu early. Now they are napping and snoring. It was already hot, and will be 102 this afternoon. We are #8 on the delivery tracking so I think later in the afternoon. I wrote a couple reviews. Then Lowes delivered the stove. My neighbor came an hour later and installed the new stove. They did a nice job. I cleaned everything up. It took at least a half hour to figure out how to put the grates on top. The picture is above. Abby barked like mad at 1:30 in the morning.
Saturday, we walked early right after breakfast to beat the heat. I did some computer visiting. Then I listened to audio books while sewing the binding for the quilt. I got my Amazon order of some new dog beds and the books for Jay. By dinner hour, we are getting some thunder and rain.
Sunday, my brother and his family are coming through Raleigh after a wedding. So I’m looking forward to seeing them. This week will have more rain and less medical appts.
I did the Read A Series in a Month during June. I chose the Ink & Sigil series by Kevin Hearne. Berls did a buddy read with me.

I liked these but not quite as much as the Iron Druid Chronicles.
June Reading: I managed to read 22 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge. I listened to 12 audiobooks, read 2 library books, 20 COYER reads, and 9 books which I already own.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters.The other thing I enjoy is humor.

I’ve been walking Otis early also, it’s been so hot and humid. That’s good you got the new stove. We had to replace our fridge last month and Home Depot also charges $50 to take the old fridge away so we just hauled the old one out front and called the town to come pick it up for free. My husband borrowed one of those hand truck things from a friend to haul it out front. Enjoy your books this week.

Congrats on your new stove! We just got a new dishwasher through our home insurance and I love it. Ours was also over 20 years old and the electrical parts were failing and they said they couldn’t get the parts to fix it. I love the bed swap thing with the dogs, so cute😁

We try to walk our dogs as early as possible when it isn’t so hot and there is a lower chance of running into other dogs. Of course, we encountered a deer the other day which made my dogs act even crazier than they do when they see other dogs. I was excited to get the widget for Sanctuary too! I started it last night and can’t wait to get back to it. Congrats on the new oven!
I used to go before dinner other summers but it’s just too hot this year, not the actual temps but the heat index. I can’t wait until I can read Sanctuary but will probably read it in one sitting. I don’t mind old things that work. The new stove is nice but we didn’t need a new one until it didn’t work.
Busy week! I’m thinking of doing my new shed through Lowe’s. My brother thinks I should get one at Costco and he will put it together for me, but I know how that goes, so I’ll just get someone who will deliver and put together. I think we have less rain this week, and temps a little warmer than this past week. We’ve had a lot of rain, lots of flooding or possible flooding causing some fireworks displays last week to be postponed. Hope you have a less expensive week, but that looks like a nice new stove!
Thank you Lisa. Let’s hope we both have a less expensive week. We need the rain and may get some this week, with slightly lower actual temps but the heat index is the problem. With less med appts I’m hoping for a quieter week.

Your new stove looks great and glad you got a good cost for installation from your neighbor. Sounds like a productive week and a little rest from the runaround. Whew, a 100! Fun that you scored Sanctuary. I’m hoping to get picked for a NetGalley eARC, but if not, I’ll buy it. Looking good for your reading and challenge numbers. Way to go clearing nine books on your own shelf and the #SIAM.

Bummer about the stove, but at least you were able to take advantage of the holiday sales. How funny that Lulu and Abby sleep in each other’s beds. So cute. I had a medical appointment this last week, too. Mammogram, an added ultrasound and now I have to get alternating mammo/MRI every 6 months. This happens every time I go to a new facility because of my family history. I had three years of this about ten years ago. Lucky you getting Sanctuary! I just “wished for” the e-book and I just noticed they put up the audio too so I applied for that one, too. We’ll see. I want to read Mud Season soon. Did you like it?
They are so cute this week. We have Abby until next Sunday. I was ecstatic to get Sanctuary. I liked Mud Season but I didn’t love it. It’s more cozy which in a full book with more character development I might enjoy the series a lot.

I’m glad you were able to get your oven replaced. And, the rain sounds lovely. Even though we don’t need the water (all our rivers, lakes, and reservoirs are full), I always love when it rains because it cools everything down.
Our fireworks have been going on since July 1. Each day except the 4th, they’ve been going until around 12:30 am and on the 4th, they went until 2 or so in the morning. I really dislike this time of year, lol.

When we replaced our oven/stove a few years ago (which was as old as yours), the store told me that the expected life of major appliances these days is 5-7 years. That is just crazy. I also got Sanctuary, and I’m so excited. I didn’t read the serial, so it will be all new to me. Yea, so glad you are caught up on the IDC / Ink and Sigil books. I hope you are staying cool.

Congrats on the new stove and that was great that the neighbor could do the install! I have a gas stove and if I need it to be at 350F the dial has to be around 425F. Crazy!

Thanks Jinjer. That’s why I put the thermometer in the over – to find out the actual temp. Since it varied widely I knew the thermostat was broken. Abby and Lulu continue to sleep in each other’s beds and it’s a bit hilarious.

How is your new stove working out? I have such a hard time with ours, but my husband, who does most of the cooking, says it’s fine. I think he just doesn’t want to pay the expense of replacing it. I hope you had a nice visit with your brother and his family! My mom is headed up to Sacramento for a couple of weeks or so to visit my brother and her friends. She’s enlisted my daughter to come and water her plants while she’s away. I hope you have a great week, Anne!
I love the new stove, but do wonder if I should have gotten by with the old one just using the top and the toaster oven for awhile to be more careful about money. I really enjoyed the time with my brother and family. It was only about 3 hours which was actually a little short but it’s better I think to have it be not too long. It was hard for my daughter who just doesn’t feel well too much of the time but she was glad to see them.

At 24 years old, your old stove didn’t owe you anything! And the new one looks lovely. How very interesting that the dogs swap beds like that! You’d think they’d both want the comfort of their own space, wouldn’t you? Those temperatures sound dreadful – I’ve resolved not to moan about our cool and rather rainy July after seeing what other folks are enduring. I hope you’re having a great week, Anne:).
Thank you Sarah. I still have two more of the original appliances I think – the microwave and dishwasher. When I redid the kitchen a few years ago they thought I should replace them but I said no. The fridge I bought new when I bought the house in 2019. It’s been the most trouble but I like its features. Sometimes the old stuff is the best made, sometimes new technology is a breakthrough improvement. The temperatures have been dreadful. The temperature is always hot in July and August here 90s / 32+ C but the difference this year is the humidity and dewpoint which move the heat index into the 100s. 90s with moderate humidity isn’t too bad. It’s like the dry heat in the SW USA. But those temperatures have shot up too.
It is so miserably hot right now! We are getting in an early morning walk but not an afternoon walk. Good luck with the stove replacement! It’s good you were able to determine exactly what you want. I hope you’re having a great week!
