Sunday, I managed to get going a little earlier. I worked on my emails, blog visits, and post setups. We walked Lulu and it’s warming up. So our icemaker has been sort of broken for months, I just haven’t had the energy to deal with it. I’ve had it repaired 3-4 ties over 6 years for the same problem. It crushes ice instead of cubes. We prefer cubes. But we can grab them out of the tub in the freezer or just use the crushed which is what we have been doing. All of a sudden today, it is doing cubes again!
Monday, I woke too early and couldn’t go back to sleep so now I’m tired. It’s the last day around 80 so I’m supposed to move the dirt into the front planter. But I got a new letter denying insurance coverage for my daughter’s PT so I have that to figure out. We took a longer walk with Lulu since the weather was so pleasant. I finished up my tax returns. I read through the questions from the minister to prepare for the funeral service. I cleaned up my desk and did a little knitting.
Tuesday, I got in some reading before bed and slept pretty well. I have plenty of chores for today. So apparently yesterday I didn’t do my Feedly or my Wordle. I went to the garden center for a few plants to replace ones that died in the front planter this past winter. Then I picked up pizzas at Papa Murphys. My daughter went to bingo with the neighbor and Lulu and I snoozed on the couch.
Wednesday, our Cook Unity order came. I have plenty to do and need to pick something and get started. I read 28 pages of notes my mom made about what she wanted for her funeral. I listened to the songs on Youtube. I did a Walmart order and forgot some things since I hadn’t done menu planning and finally did some menu planning for this week and some of next week. I made a decision chart on driving schools for my daughter to brush up on her driving. She has a license but hasn’t driven much lately. I talked to my brother briefly about the photos I need to do the stuff for the funeral so he is shipping some to me. My daughter and I walked Lulu. I did a little work on Shutterfly before dinner.
Thursday, I woke too early and went back to sleep. I’m behind on reading again. Our town is putting water restriction starting April 20. That’s never happened since I got here in 2015. I got an email back from the minister who is out of town for continuing education this week which had the best times to reach him next week. The neighbor and I went to get pedicures and then stopped at Trader Joes which was a nice break. Then we walked Lulu with my daughter. But I was tired and felt so behind afterwards.
Friday, I managed to finally get going early and feel good about my progress on things. I still have to fight for my daughter’s PT appt as they are the only support for her EDS. She only needs once a month but something always needs support or adjustment. I finished up my audio for tomorrow and wrote the review. I helped edit my daughter’s paper.
Saturday, we got up and out early to go canvass for NC General Assembly candidates in our area for the November election. Winn Decker is running for the NC House and is the son of two public school teachers. Lisa Grafstein is the incumbent for the NC Senate, a civil rights attorney fighting for those with disabilities. She’s concerned with people having healthcare, housing and a living wage. We know them well from the monthly Dems on Tap we attend. It’s cool with a phone app that gives you the address and the names, ages of the people, if they are Dem or unaffiliated. We had a list of 35 to do between 10-1. My daughter was a silent canvasser since it was her first time. She did all the typing into the app. My neighbor and I had canvassed before so we did the talking. It got pretty hot in a newer built neighborhood with no big trees for shade. Most people were not home so mostly we dropped literature. We finished well before 1 and headed home. We are signed up for once a month canvassing. Lulu was right next to the front door watching for us. We ate some lunch. Then my daughter did some final edits on her paper and I visited blogs and read emails before walking Lulu. I wrote some reviews, uploaded a new audio ARC to my phone, and then finished one sleeve on Sophia’s sweater and started the next one.
The upcoming week will be about 20 degrees cooler and if we are lucky, we will get some rain.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My huge thanks and appreciation to Union Square & Co, Sourcebooks Casablanca, Del Rey, Tantor Audio,

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
NONE.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

Chirp Friday Freebies:

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

We’ve always had water restrictions in California, at least since I’ve been a homeowner. In my old town we were only allowed to run the sprinklers two or three times a week, depending on the month. Lots of people got rid of their grass since it was dying. Enjoy your cool weather!
It’s cloudy and windy today. I hope we get some rain. I got the email from the water utility and it is just sprinklers and irrigation systems. Hand watering with a hose is not restricted and that’s all I ever do. I have sprinklers but only used them when I got new sod one time.
Sounds like a busy week. That sucks that you have to keep fighting the insurance for what your daughter needs. It’s great all the canvassing you guys are doing. Lulu is adorable as always. Have a good week, looks like some good new books too!
Thanks Lisa. It has been busy this past week. This week like last will be more focused on projects than appointments.
I admire your work canvassing and poll greeting. Thank you for doing that! I had a busy week. My sister’s MIL passed a few weeks ago, and the funeral was Thursday/Friday in Michigan. I flew to Chicago (closest major airport) early Thursday and home late Friday. Now I’m trying to get caught up, but I’m gone all Sunday doing stuff with my daughter. Oh well. I hope you have a good week ahead.
Traveling can really disrupt the routines. I am not a big attendee of funerals. But they are an opportunity to gather with friends and family.
Sounds like a good mixed week of getting stuff done and having to work on a few surprise tasks. I think I know why you have water restrictions. We got all your water. It rained every day and we’re under flood warnings. Your front beds are looking good. That’s funny about your icemaker suddenly doing the ice the way you like it.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia. The weather is crazy all over. I’ve spent like half the cost of the fridge repairing it just for that so I think I’m done. As long as we get ice and if not, a new fridge may be in order. But it’s not very old. Of course I’m the keeper of things long-term. I have the working toaster from 1951. The ice skates from 1969. My ski pants and jacket from 1973. My bicycle from 1982. My roller skates from 1986. Furniture from relatives that is older than those. Everything still functional.
It seems awfully early in the year to have water restrictions in place – but then I’m from England, so somewhat ignorant of what is usual. As for the icemaker – that’s just uncanny… I also have a copy of A Trade in Blood – and I’m really excited about it as I’ve been loving the series so far. Sorry to hear that you’re having to fight so hard for your daughter’s health insurance to pay up. And I LOVE the pic of Lulu. Have a great week, Anne:).
Thank you Sarah. We just haven’t had those April showers and did have some rather hot weather. I’m beyond excited to read A Trade for Blood.
I received Trade of Blood also, but will read along as I listen to the audio version, which I love. Water restrictions are tough; hopefully, you’ll get a good rainy season. Insurance denials have been brutal this year. My mother has had a fentanyl patch prescription for 30+ years and this year they denied it. To fight it, she would have to fly home to NJ, and have her doctors testify. Even though all the medical doctors said she couldn’t handle the withdrawal and it is the only thing that lessons her pain. So, she is paying for it herself each month. Such bullshit. Ugh.
yes I’m not a fan of the health care changes happening. Somehow I got on reading rather than audio for the RJB books and so I read them. I think I have bought some of the audios for rereads though.
Water restriction must be hard Anne! We only had that once here three years ago.
Thanks Sophie. The water restriction is for outside not inside the house for now.
I’m sorry about the water restrictions. It must be so difficult for you. The pics of Lulu are so cute. I hope you enjoy your books and have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. We think Lulu is the cutest, of course.
Insurance is such a pain. Hopefully you are able to get it sorted out. Water restrictions already? It seems early in the year for that, which doesn’t bode well. Hopefully you get some rain soon!
yes I think April is supposed to have showers but we haven’t. Insurance just keeps get more expensive and difficult.
Here’s hoping the new Robert Jackson Bennett is as good as we’re both anticipating!
Somehow I’m not worried at all.
The flower beds look lovely!
Thank you Bree. I choose perennials so they come up year after year but sometimes we have very adverse weather or a plant isn’t in the right sun/shade placement.
Sweet Lulu💜
Your garden looks great! Kudos to you for doing the canvassing. I’m looking forward to the final book in the Coburn Brothers series. Holding out for the audiobook.
Have a great week!
Thanks Jonetta. We will be doing a lot of canvassing this year. I wasn’t able to figure out how to request the audios for the Coburns so I’ve just been reading them.
We had water restrictions the last couple of years when we lived in SoCal. We don’t have any here, but it wouldn’t matter since we’re on our own well. We pumped water from the creek to water the front property trees we planted until my husband got an irrigation system set up. Funny about your fridge ice. You won’t have to guess at what your mom wanted for her funeral service if she left 28 pages of instructions. I hope the service goes well. Hope your daughter gets the PT she needs and sharpens her driving skills. I’m looking forward to Trade of Blood. I haven’t requested any of them. Just waited for library lends. I love the audios.
The restrictions aren’t as severe as I first thought. They are for irrigation and sprinkler systems. Hand held watering with a hose doesn’t have any yet and that’s all I normally do. My mom changed her instructions every week for a while so it’s murkier than you would think. The things she wanted for the lunch are not compatible with what family members can / would eat and I’m not sure we could get them locally. So I’m having to do some adjusting. I read the RJB books first. I got the audios for rereading.
I wish your ice maker would make up its mind what kind of ice it wants to generate!!!
Look at the fluffy lil Lulu!!!!
The ice maker could just do what the setting is! Lulu fluffs right up when we brush her.
That’s so strange your ice maker suddenly worked well again and makes cubes again, but definitely the good type of surprise. Sounds like you have a lot going on and the preparation for the funeral sounds hard, I am sorry for your loss. I like seeing the pictures of your garden. That sounds like a pain having to fight for the insurance coverage for your daughter’s PT, I hope you can get it resolved. I hope this week is a good one for you!
Thank you Lola. Right now I just have many things to do like the funeral prep and I need to ask questions and get it handled right. It just takes a lot of time to make phone calls, use the info to make good decisions. I can do these things; it just takes time and I feel so slow right now with too many things on the list.
Our water restrictions start May 1 and we’re in yet another drought situation. The summer is also expected to be hotter than normal. Thinking of you as you make the preparations for the funeral and deal with everything else that comes your way. Take care.
Thank you Jodie. Our restrictions are the first phase so they aren’t too strict yet. But we haven’t been getting any rain and I fear it will be a really hot summer. The funeral just has a lot of little details and I don’t want to miss or mishandle anything. The food is a bugger because of many special dietary issues. In the small rural town, I don’t know if they will have things for those issues. I’m making those calls this week.
I absolutely despise the American health care system. I’m sorry you continually have to fight for your daughter’s care. Good for you for canvassing. I think if the felon-in-chief does not interfere with the elections, Dems may take both the House and Senate.
Olivia I appreciate the way you think. Thank you.
Lulu looks cozy soaking up the sun and resting. The garden is looking nice. I finally worked on mine this weekend. We had water restrictions years ago when we were having a very dry summer. I need to make a Trader Joes run. Enjoy your books this week!
Thank you Naida. I just hope the deer aren’t too munchy. About this time last year, they mowed down my lilies and hydrangeas.
I hope you are able to get the insurance situation sorted out
Water restrictions on sprinklers etc in Summer are common here, and even hand watering is discouraged between the hours of 10am and 3pm as a general rule. I hope you get the rain you want.
Thanks for sharing your week
Thank you. We are first phase of restrictions so I guess hand watering is ok. I only do that once a week or so. I hope we do get some rain, especially as this summer is probably going to be a hot one.
You are gardening, it looks good. We’re still getting the odd snow fall. We have to wait until later in May before we can start doing any serious yard work.
yes that is similar to Minnesota when I lived there. The gardening season here is really 3 seasons.
I could use a puppy nap.
We just got back from a short spring break trip and I took all my naps with Lulu.
