Sunday, we got up and prepared to go to the funeral. It was thundering and raining so I grabbed my raincoat to load the car. I was worried about Lulu with the thunder but it was stopping as we left. The caterer did a great job and the pastor’s sermon was very well done. The eulogies were also fun with stories of Mom. It was great to see the relatives and friends. Just the immediate family went out to the cemetery and put the box in the ground. My daughter and I went back to the hotel then and did computer work and ate leftovers while I did one load of laundry. I started packing the car when we took Lulu out after dinner. Then we relaxed watching streaming tv.
Monday, the temperature is heating up. We drove to Minnesota and arrived earlyish. Unfortunately the room I reserved for us was not a “pet” room, although it let me make the reservation and none of the pet rooms were suites. We went to another of the companies properties about a mile away and got 2 regular rooms with a connecting door which gave us the kind of suite. It was a hot and frustrating afternoon. But we went to dinner with my daughter’s high school friend and the food was good. They went back to the hotel to swim in the pool. I got gas ($3.38) and stopped for a couple of grocery items. They have PECAN snickers! With my room having a king, it was finally a bed big enough with room for both Lulu and me. I spent a lot of time today on the phone and Internet about my car repairs. The part needed is in short supply. The dealership it is at thinks they can get it and do the repair. We will see.
Tuesday, today is still hot but it rained overnight and the humidity is lower with a good breeze. We went to the zoo right after noon, with my daughter’s friend and her mother. We walked all over every single trail and exhibit. I was surprised how comfortable it was with the breeze even with the heat. We went back to the room to do a few things and let Lulu out and give her some attention. We went out to an Italian place. They had a gluten free menu and the food was excellent. We chose to sit outside rather than wait an hour for an indoor table and it was actually nice. We stopped at the store on the way back to the room to get snacks for while they watch movies. I got several Salsa Lisa to take home with me as I can’t get it in NC. It is gluten free and has no cilantro, also it must be refrigerated. But I can use the second cooler I brought filled with Lulu’s homemade food which she has now eaten. My daughter did get her next class and books which started yesterday. The girls showered to shed the sunscreen. Lulu and I went to bed early.
Wednesday, Lulu and I got up early. It was raining when I took her out. It is supposed to be scattered showers. I am going out to lunch with a business friend and the girls are going to do their own thing. We plan to get back together in the afternoon to do some thrift shopping. It was great to see my friend and the Mexican restaurant was excellent. I went back to the room to take out Lulu but my daughter arrived and took her out. We went to Savers, Unique and Half Price books. I’m annoyed that they no longer let you try things on. Each item is individually priced and much higher than the amounts we have been paying in NC. I did find some sun dresses for my daughter, and she found some jewelry. I found a knitting book and a quilting book and she found some jewelry making books. I came back to be with Lulu, plan for tomorrow and eat leftovers. My daughter and her friend went out for Thai food. I wrote a review and did some planning for tomorrow.
Thursday, when I woke the weather looked like it would ruin my plans but then in a couple hours it changed again. My daughter and her friend got up and left early to go to the Arboretum. I would have liked to go but dogs aren’t allowed. I decided today I needed to take Lulu with me to lunch and a walk along a trail by Lake Minnetonka where I lived for almost 20 years. This way I had the morning to do blog visiting and emails too. It was great to see Nicole. Her boys have both graduated high school now and starting college so she has a bit more time as an empty nester now. While rain threatened all day, it never happened. I drove around the area where I lived last, but I had lived many places in the Twin Cities. Lulu enjoyed the trail along Lake Minnetonka. My daughter, her friend and I went to a neighborhood pizza place which had gluten free pizza. Now the girls are watching movies and I am doing some computer stuff, verifying plans for tomorrow.
Friday, I woke early and it was light rain. I decided it was cool enough to wear the one pair of leggings I brought along. I started packing things to head south again. We should follow right behind the heat wave hitting each area as it cools down a bit. It’s still summer though. We ate at Original Pancake House and then headed south. We got a little gas in Charles City ($4.04) and then filled in Waterloo when we went to get dinner ($3..38) We got the news that the dealership got the part but it turned out that the part in the box wasn’t the one on the label on the outside! We ate at a bar which had gluten free fryer and did onion rings, chicken strips and breaded pork tenderloins.
Saturday, we slept in and then went to Peoria. We only stopped to get gas in Davenport IA ($3.35). We checked into the motel, then went over to my ex’s house for dinner. We did a load of laundry over dinner. We talked about plans the next 2 days. The part might come Tuesday. Hopefully this time it would be the real part.
June Reading:
I managed to read 15 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge.
- 13 Audiobooks
- 4 Library books
- 14 COYER
- 1 Books I Own
All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog) 2026 Library Love Challenge
I did manage to read 1 books I own (goal is 3 per month):
- 🎧 Some Sort of Justice by Peter Grainger

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My grateful thanks to Minotaur Books, Penguin Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I bought the Sherry Thomas audios for $5 each and the Allyson James for 99¢ each from Chirp.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

I’m sorry for your loss!
Great job on the reading tally!
Thank you Melissa.
Sweet Lulu💜
It looks like your Mom got a fine home going and I’m glad things worked out so well for you and your family. This has turned out to be quite the trip! Fingers crossed 🤞🏽 your car part comes in and you can head home.
Have a great week!
Thank you Jonetta. The service was really very good.
What an epic trip! I’m glad you’re getting to visit old friends and places. I hope the car part arrives too. 😁
Thanks Tammy. I am very worried about the car part.
Happy Sunday!
Thank you Billy. Thanks for visiting.
Just stopping by to say Happy Sunday and Happy Reading!
I am glad everything is going well and you were able to take Lulu too. Pecan Snickers sound delish!
Thank you Naida. Lulu loves to travel with us. I was surprised I didn’t like the pecan snickers more.
I love visiting zoos when I travel. Glad everything is going well. Have a great week
We took in the Peoria Zoo yesterday. It’s a smaller zoo but nice.
I’m glad the funeral went well. When my stepdad passed it was really just immediate family at the grave site and then we had a celebration of life later on for friends and other family to come to later. I like that you had a lot of other things to do and that you traveled a bit more while you were out. I hope the car part gets there this Tuesday and it is the right one! Did you have to extend your stay so you can wait on then I guess?
yes we had to extend our stay to wait for the car part. So today I’ve been reading and writing a review and now trying to get back to commenting and visiting.
So sorry for your loss. Sounds like the funeral went well, and overall the week had more good than bad 🙂 Hope the car repair works out as soon as possible!
Thank you Becki. The funeral was really lovely so that was a relief.
Love your 4th of July Banner!
Thank you!
I am glad that the funeral went well Anne. And that’s so annoying when hotels don’t have pet friendly rooms!
Thanks Sophie. They should know Lulu is the best girl and she must travel with us!
I’m glad that the funeral service went well.
It seems your journey home is going well, drive safe.
Thanks for sharing your week, happy reading!
Thank you. Well the funeral was beautiful. Now we are having to extend our stay waiting for the car part to arrive.
I’m so sorry about your Mom, Anne. But I’m glad the service went well, and that you and your daughter were able to go on to Minnesota to see your friends. Wishing you continued safety as you return home, and hugs and comfort in the months ahead.
Thank you Kara.
Glad to hear the memorial turned out nice and you were able to visit some of your old haunts. Hope they get the correct part for your Volt and that you have a safe and fun trip back home! I have the widget for the new Bruce Borgos and the Faith Hunter, too.
Thanks Rachel. I am excited for both those reads coming up.
I hope the car part arrives soon and is the right one and doesn’t cost an arm & a leg.
I’m also glad that the funeral service went well and that Lulu is enjoying her road trip adventures!
Thank you Jinjer. I’m pretty sure it’s going to cost an arm. Plus the rental car and extra hotel time waiting for the part. Lulu will be happy until I run out of her homemade food.
I’m so glad the funeral went well. Hopefully they get the correct part to fix the car! What a hassle!
Thank you. The memorial was very nice. The whole car part is exhausting.
Pecan Snickers sound amazing…
Hope you enjoyed the zoo! I love visiting zoos a lot with my wife — we try to collect magnets from each one we visit, haha.
Have a good week!
Thanks Nicky. We went to the Peoria Zoo yesterday as we are here waiting for the car part.
Seeing your update brought back memories! We used to live in Minneapolis, which is where my son was born. We had a membership to the zoo there and I spent so many wonderful days walking the trails with him. It sounds like you’re having a beautiful trip catching up with friends and family. Kudos on the 15 books, too—that’s a fantastic reading month and a great haul!
Thanks Angela. My daughter was born there too. It’s a beautiful city and it was north so cooler. The trip has been pretty nice weather but it is burning up at home, around 100 every day.
Yikes, 100 degrees sounds miserable! It’s been beautiful over on the West Coast—right in the high 60s and low 70s lately.
I’m sorry for your loss, Anne. It sounds like the service was lovely. It sounds like your trip has been a mix of ups and downs. I hope they get the right part to fix your car. I love getting specials on Chirp, they are such a steal. I hope you have a good upcoming week.
Thank you Carla. The service was really beautiful. I’m tired of traveling now and ready to be home even if the weather is an oven at about 100.
Glad the funeral went well and your mother had a good sendoff – sorry for your loss, Anne. How very annoying about the part being mis-labelled! I thought computer-controlled stock meant such blunders weren’t supposed to happen… Hopefully, all will be sorted in the coming week.
Thank you Sarah. It went very well. Now I’m ready to be home so I hope they get the right part this time.
Glad the funeral went well and there were great remembrances of your mom. Fingers crossed about getting the right part this time. Sheesh! I ended up with Palm Beach Nasty too.
Thank you Olivia. It was all well and good until the mislabeled car part.
This heat has been rough!
It’s been worse at home than where we traveled.
What a busy week! You came home to some intense heat though. :-O I hope the right part showed up!
yes they finally got the right part and the heat is intense at home, probably until September.
Sounds like it was a nice second half of the trip and the funeral went well. *HUGS* I just got back from our week long family trip to MI. We spent most of the week hanging out in the sun, playing games, eating good food. But it’s nice to be back home. Now it’s time to try and catch up!
It was good when I wasn’t worried about the car.
