He never thought he'd see her again. Fate had other plans.
Ten years ago, Victoria Kelly fled her husband and the Russian criminal underworld—the Bratva. Her dream of becoming a psychologist is finally about to come true, but her future hinges on leaving the past behind. So why can't she forget one unfulfilled moment of passion with sexy Alexander Tarankov? He saved her life. Then vanished.
FBI Strike Force Agent Kyle Gates buries himself in his job, anything to ease the suffering that comes from deep loss . . . and guilt. Taking down the city's newest Bratva leader is his sole focus. Until he runs headfirst into the woman he nearly died saving. She's twice as beautiful now and a force to be reckoned with. Poignant memories resurface, igniting sparks that more than a decade of separation failed to extinguish. But as the ex-wife of a high-ranking Bratva he put in prison, she's still a thousand percent off limits.
Despite their simmering passion, Kyle's presence in Victoria's life threatens everything she's worked so hard to achieve. And hide. Working with him puts her back on the Bratva's radar. When her obsessive ex tracks her down, Kyle's priorities change. Now, keeping Victoria safe is the only thing that matters. To stay alive, they'll have to confront dangers from the past and shocking truths that will either save them . . . or destroy them.
Exacting Vengeance continues the series with the Jack’s brother Kyle. The situation when Kyle fell in love while undercover in Chicago came up in the last book. Victoria changed her name, slightly, colored her hair and went into witness protection. She got the degree she always wanted.
Now several factors collide. Victoria comes to New York for her internship. Kyle has a new case against the Bratva and has testimony from a wife of one of the mobsters. Also Victoria’s ex-husband Yuri is out of prison in Chicago but comes to New York to work for his childhood buddy.
There’s some nice history and background shared about the time when Kyle was undercover and how Victoria got away without testifying. It shares the attraction between them which went nowhere at the time.
Yuri wants his wife back and revenge on her and Kyle. It’s dangerous for them both as they have started a relationship now. That only adds to Yuri’s anger. Yuri also wants the Bratva and his childhood buddy to reward him for keeping his mouth shut while he was in prison. He’s a ball of rage. Things get dicey but Kyle has all his brothers and their women to help.
I enjoyed their actual learning to trust and work together in a relationship. Both had so many secrets and eventually they clear them so they can be together.
Narration:
The narrator has been performing all the books in this series and the previous Federal K-9 series. Vanessa Daniels has a rich voice for the female characters. She uses accents where appropriate. I enjoyed her performance. I listened at my newer 1.75x speed.

This sounds like a good series. I enjoy romantic suspense and need to make time to read the genre again.
The first ones didn’t seem as good as some of her other series. But the last few, including this one, have really stepped up. For me, it’s probably the more solid layer of K9 role in the story.
I love the combination of danger and a close relationship with good communication. Thanks for sharing, Anne!
Thanks Tammy. The K9 layer is stronger in the last couple books and I like that too.
That is definite a powder keg situation for all involved.
yes! It makes a harrowing but good story.
I enjoy a high stakes romantic suspense. Sounds like this was a good one!
yes this is what I feel is an old school romantic suspense with the mob and FBI characters. I started this author for the K-9 series she has written.
Sounds intense! I like that the author has so much background and real life experience!
yes. It’s got that mob ruthlessness. I started reading her K-9 stories first.
Glad this was a good read for you. Hope the series continues as one you’ll keep going with too. Great review!
Thank you. Romantic suspense seems to be a good romance genre for me.
