Everyone is keeping secrets.

Zak won't reveal what really happened between us ten years ago. Ríkr's been hiding so much I scarcely recognize him anymore. But the biggest secret belongs to my parents, and it's the one I'm most desperate to unravel.

Finding out who they really were, and who I am, means solving their eighteen-year-old murders. For reasons unknown, Zak decides to join me—and that makes me nervous, especially when the trail leads us into the most dangerous fae territory in the lower mainland.

The questions keep piling up, but as I realize too late, my parents' killer is no mystery. He's been lying in wait all along.

But not for me.

I've led Zak and Ríkr into a hell with no escape, and I need more than answers now. I need power—because without it, none of us will make it out alive.

Guild Codex Unveiled  series is a different aspect of the Guild Codex Spellbound world.  I thought this was going to be Zak’s story but really it is his and Saber’s stories.  I have read all of the Spellbound  and Warped series. I would say you can read Unveiled without Spellbound and Warped  first but I wouldn’t.   I really prefer to read in order, yes,  but there is also background on the world, the guilds and some of the characters which is really helpful if you ever have first book in a series issues. PLUS  the other series are awesome! Zak and Kit are key and I was glad to know some of their background.

Saber finds after the battle which ended the previous book, she has been passed out four days.  She was supposed to go into the MPD already and find out what would happen now with her probation and who would be her mentor. She also finds out she is not a witch but a druid. We also get a new view of her fae familiar, Rikr.

With Zak’s help, she gets some information on her parent’s deaths and decides to go see where they died.  It turns out her home and a friend are still there, but so is the fae who killed her parents.  She puts Zak, Rikr and herself at risk and it is a battle to learn what happened and stay alive.

I love all the information we get from both Saber and Zak’s childhood and the history of her parent’s life and death.  They were also druids not witches.  Saber learns a bit about being a druid.  Saber and Zak both make new deals with their fae.   The ending is a joy which I won’t spoil.  I’m so excited for what happens next, in The Twice-Scorned Lady of Shadow.  The ebook will release in May but I don’t know yet about the audio version.

Narration:

Cris Dukehart is the original narrator for Tori in the Spellbound  and Robin in the  Demonized series.  She is back now for Unveiled.  Since most of the story is Saber’s voice, this fits well.   Dukehart is one of my favorite narrators.  I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

About Annette Marie

Annette Marie is the author of YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced urban fantasy, bold heroines, and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She proudly admits she has a thing for dragons, and her editor has politely inquired as to whether she intends to include them in every single book.

Annette lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad). She shares her life with her remarkably patient, comparatively sensible husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

  1. I love fantasy book narrators and think it requires a unique skill. I just told my Uber passenger that she’d be a great narrator because she has a sultry voice but then she said it’s because she yells at kids at her job all day. lol
