Sunday, even though I was up late, I got going well. I did get through a lot of review request emails and have a few more to peruse today. Plus it’s time to update links for mid month challenges and the COYER gameboard. I also need to work on my Library Love Mid Year Savings post too. I did a lot of laundry today. After dinner, it was cooler and I took Lulu for a walk and ran into our neighbor with Abby & Kayla. Kayla didn’t bark just stared at Lulu. Progress?
Monday, my neighbor was taking stuff to the dump and took my 6 chairs that the squirrels ruined. We had an added walk of Abby & Kayla today. Kayla didn’t bark but she huffed when Lulu came out. Then we met some new neighbors with a small beagle named Spike. He got along well with Abby & Lulu. It was hot but with a nice breeze.
Tuesday, we are finally getting some good rain. My daughter took Abby & Kayla out to go at the normal time but it was quick because of rain. I paid the bills for July and looked at finance stuff. I emailed the window company asking for a complete checklist of events for the install. Surprisingly, they sent back a pretty good list. The install may be about a month earlier than I expected though. The rain let up about 1:30 so I went and got Abby & Lulu and walked them to the corner. Then I came back. Since Kayla might react badly to Lulu I couldn’t take her in, so I tied her to the mailbox, took Abby in and came out with Kayla. Kayla was ok, no barking or huffing at Lulu. I put her back in the house, and Lulu and I went home. Just in time to head off to the dentist. My daughter had a filling come loose. I went to Lowes and Home Depot while she was there and found a pepper plant, an impatien, and a sale marigold because one of the original ones died. Then I did a Walmart pickup. When I was unloading the car, our neighbor had just got home and was out with Abby and Kayla. Abby took off across the street to get to me. lol So I went over and said hello.
Wednesday, the rain all day was just clouds all day. So we walked our girls just before noon. Then we had a short time to do a few things before our regular scheduled dentist appt, Xrays and cleanings – no cavities. I managed to put a tomato cage support around the sage which has been all over the bed. I took down the snow pea vines, added fertilizer, and planted a green pepper and the sale marigold. Marley came over to the fence to say hello. Then I watched the Zoom of Nalini Singh and Gordon and Ilona Andrews. I made a Strawberry Jello Pie last night to have tonight.
Thursday, stormy rain was supposed to start at noon but light steady rain started about 11:15 so the walking didn’t happen even though I tried to get out ahead of it. I can already see shoots from the green beans I planted last week! Around two it cleared so I took Abby & Lulu for a walk and it started raining when we got back. I spent a lot of time on dinner making Chicken Alfredo Squash and a peach pie. The chicken dish looks horrible but tastes amazing. The pie was good too.
Friday, cloudy but not raining. At night it projects 60-80% chance rain and it ends up being 15% in the morning. At least we are getting rain each day in the late afternoon or evening which is really great for the yard and plants. I didn’t get up early. I got out to the garden center to get spaghetti squash seeds and beet seeds. Then I stopped at Food Lion for my favorite salad dressing and to get bean sprouts but they didn’t have them. They did have the kind of vanilla ice cream on sale we like though. I planted the squash and I’m loving my new supports made from cattle panels. I walked Lulu on the longest route but couldn’t see the swans. Then I watered all the plants and of course, then it rained. I have asters (white and blue) and astilbe (white and red) blooming in the front bed planter. I watched videos on how to install drawer pulls on cabinets and discussed it with my ex. It’s not my experience but I may have to just do it myself.
Saturday, I stayed up late finishing my book which was a good surprise. I wrote some reviews. Then I went down the rabbit hole for a couple hours to find two documents. They were on my computer. It has to do with my old computer I used Word / Excel. Now I mostly use Google docs / sheets. I had to go to the old computer to find them. They are both planning documents. I debated about the meal planning one I use whether to organize dishes by category (Vegetarian, Seafood, Chicken, Turkey/Other, Soup and Breakfast) or by cook method (Grill, Stovetop, Baked, Crockpot, Microwave, No Cook) I ended up doing the category and highlighting different colors for cook method. I already print recipes on colored paper by the cooking method so I used the same colors. Then I could finish up my menu planning for the week.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

You’re getting a good amount of rain. We haven’t had rain in a few weeks now and it was only a little bit. Your gardens are doing well! Mine are coming along, but only the zucchini are producing right now. I want to install another raised bed. Color coding by cooking method is a great idea! I only have my recipes organized by what kind of dish it is. I have better categories on Pinterest for those saved recipes, but I like having a hard copy to refer to as I cook.
Thanks Rachel. I’ve done the color coding for a long time. White – Stovetop, Purple – Microwave, Yellow – Crockpot, Blue- Baking, Green – Grill, Tan – No Cook. I really like organizing. The new raised bed has compacted so it will need a bunch more dirt next year.
It’s nice when the dogs can have a little neighborly visits on their walks! 🙂 We just planed a few peppers and whatnot so hopefully that’ll go well. We’re trying again after having squirrel trouble last year!
I do need t oget the newewst Murderbot.
Lulu loves to meet other dogs but one has to be careful. Kayla does not. at all. The squirrels are a nuisance. I wonder if I could spray the wood edges of my beds with the squirrel repellent I got for the patio furniture cushions? I LOVE Murderbot. The audio is fantastic.
I probably should look into squirrel spray. They come on our deck and taunt the cats, who are indoor cats and would just LOVE to get at ’em!
Love your organized garden! Wish we had more sunny areas in the back for vegetable beds. Have a good week.
Thank you! We keep making more of the yard into garden. The new raised high bed is half in shade. I plan to put a rhubarb plant there and plant other cool crops there during the hot summer to see how they do. I planted spinach there for this summer and one chard plant. The spinach isn’t a fair test as I’ve had no luck with spinach seeds or plants here. But chard and lettuce do well.
Fun with Lulu💜
Your garden is amazing! The massive raining has to be helping.
Lulu is the star! Thank you Jonetta. The rain is certainly helping me not to have to water all the time for the yard and garden.
It sounds like another busy week. When I would walk all 3 of my dogs, they act like fools when they see another dog. Now that we are only walking 2 they are fine when they see another dog. I guess I know where the problem lies. I haven’t requested the new Butcher books since I still need to read the first in the series but I do want to grab a copy when it comes out. Have a great week!
Thank you Carole. I have come to love the neighbor’s dogs and walking with them too. It’s interesting to see how they react to things. Kayla is getting there. She seems to be accepting me now at least even without my daughter. I LOVED The Areonaut’s Windlass. I read it in a paperback ARC. I bought the audio on sale to listen before this next one. It has a surprising amount of humor I thought.
Your yard is looking so nice, I’m sure the rain doesn’t hurt! Have a good week, Anne😁
Thanks, Tammy. My garden and flowers are doing well but the lawn is just a weed haven. I did new sod 2 years ago, I do weed n feed but it’s a mess. The rain is certainly saving me work from needing to water as often.
The garden is looking awesome! We now haven’t had any rain worth the name for going on 2 months – which is unheard of in drizzly old England… To be honest – we could really do with some! The Jim Butcher book looks interesting – I’ve read the first book in The Cinder Spires series and enjoyed it. Have a great week, Anne:).
Thank you Sarah. The rain is certainly helpful in both less work on watering for me and keeping the temperature a bit cooler although more humid. I LOVED The Aeronaut’s Windlass. I read paperback the first time and will listen to the audio for a reread before the new one.
We had rain here too and honestly it was much needed!
Yes. Summer rain is most welcome otherwise the heat would kill everything here.
Sounds like your garden is doing great! I’m glad the dogs are getting along better; I’m sure it makes walking them easier. We had several days of rain here, which we badly needed. But now it’s hot and humid—normal for Virginia, but I was loving those cooler, drier sunny days!
The garden and lawn both appreciate the rain and it makes less watering for me. It can make it cooler but now it’s sort of not with the humidity? I’m making a bunch of changes in the garden and trying new things. We will see what works. The dogs are enjoying their walks and getting along better. Kayla still is walked alone though for now.
I was hoping for some rain yesterday but we didn’t get it. Love the Lulu pictures. Hope you enjoy your new books and have a good week!
Thank you Lisa. Lulu is the most photogenic here. The rain has been helpful for the garden and lawn and less watering for me. It looks hotter but still some showers this week.
It’s been cold here but there hasn’t been much rain so far, apparently we might get several thunderstorms this week though.
Your menu planning sounds very organised. I sort by main ingredient mostly but I hadn’t ever thought to consider method.
Wishing you a happy reading week
Thanks Shelleyrae. Yes I love organizing my cooking. Because I tend to like seasonal cooking, cooking method comes into that. Although when I lived in Minnesota, I was known to grill in a snowstorm. When it’s really hot, I’d rather not run the oven or even stovetop at times, preferring to grill or microwave or maybe crockpot.
The dogs are so cute. Hope you have a great week ahead.
Thanks Role. We know Lulu is the star.
How clever of you to save and print your recipes this way! The organization geek in me is in awe! Have a great week!
It works for me. I love organizing and improving systems and I’ve worked on this sort of thing for a long time.
Your garden is looking good. CA has been cooler than normal this year. It’s been nice and I’ve been out walking everyday. I like your book haul. Happy Reading and Have a great week ahead!
Thank you Angela. I wish it were cooler here. But we are getting along. I always feel like I’m trying to catch up so maybe I can get a bit ahead over the holiday next weekend.
The garden is looking great! I think we’re going to go with raised beds when we start gardening again. I love the cover of The Olympian Affair.
Thanks Bonnie. The raised bed will need a lot more dirt for the next round of planting.
I love hearing g the dog tales. They pics are so adorable. Since you watched Ilona and her husband, was there any mention of completing g the Hidden Legacy series. I’m all caught up and already miss it!
Thanks Barb. Lulu is the center of our life. I think the Andrews are focused on Kate Daniels stuff and something new. They do plan to do Arabella I think but not right now. I LOVED Hidden Legacy (like all of their books). The humor was amazing.
We’ve been getting some serious thunderstorms the last week. But I think that’s over and the coming week brings the heat. Mid-to high 90’s almost all week. And by next Saturday… almost 100. Ack! I don’t even have a sweet tooth but the peach pie and strawberry pie sound delicious. I never got around to menu planning this weekend so I guess I’ll be doing that tomorrow.
Yes it’s heating up. At least we will get some rain so the plants aren’t roasted. The peach pie turned out amazing. I will have to make it again. I’ve got my daughter helping with the menu plans now that I did the shared spreadsheet.
Fun that the neighbor dog is getting along a little better each encounter. Love seeing all the walking and gardening you’re getting done. My garden will be late with our late warm weather this year, but it is coming along. Yummy strawberry jello pie. That’s a new possibility to me with the color coding of your recipes to what type of prep and cooking. I was ecstatic that I scored an eARC of System Collapse. Yay for you, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia. Just when I think I have things caught up there is more to do. The garden is an experiment process this year with the new beds and trying new crops. I LOVE Murderbot. I love the audio also. yes I tend to like to organize so the color coding made it easier to find some recipes in a stack of printouts.
The garden looks great. I love the dog pics. I hope you have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. Lulu is the star of our life and photos.
Sounds like a good week! The dogs sound like they’ve been having a fun time and your garden looks great. We have had the worst luck with marigolds this year. We can’t get it right sun exposure wise somehow. I love peach pie. I will have to make some soon! Have a great week!
Thank you Katherine. We love being with the dogs and they are SO happy to get out and walk. It’s getting hotter and I’m worried about that though. My garden has some experiments with new things I haven’t planted before and the new bed. But I always do marigolds by the tomatoes and somehow they just died. I make my peach pie with special puff pastry dough that is gluten free. It can be hard to get except around Thanksgiving. But last night I made peach crisp with the rest of the peaches.
Laundry is something I need to get on tomorrow. Since I work from home I make a point of NOT doing it on the weekend because when I worked in an office it made me so MAD when the stay at home people did their laundry on the weekend. lol
That was nice of the neighbors to haul off your chairs for you.
Hahahaha what did Lulu think about being tied to the mailbox?
That strawberry jello pie looks delicious!!!
Organizing by cooking method works best for me. I like your color coding system.
Cute Lulu pics.
Thanks Jinjer. Lulu is pretty good but I don’t think she liked the mailbox but didn’t complain. She could see me so that maybe made it easier? I end up doing a load of laundry nearly every day it seems.
Looks like some great freebie books this week. I picked up the Ledger as well. I missed a few days cuz I don’t remember seeing your others. That’s okay, I have so many freebies stacked up, I may never get them all read. Your journal style entries sure always show a busy week! Thanks for stopping by again Anne.
Have a terrific week.
Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Thank you Terrie. I think if I didn’t write a few sentences each day I would not remember anything that happened all week.
I was just on NetGalley and requested The Olympian Affair. I was so pleasantly surprised to see it! I didn’t realize that Butcher FINALLY went back to this series. Now I’ll have to go back to my notes to recall what happened! I was also soooo excited to see the galley of A Curse of Krakens by Kevin Hearne, but I’ll wait for the audiobook on that one.
Last weekend was my final big event of June – Girl Scout Camporee. Now I can kind of relax and kick back for summer. Now if the weather would cooperate!
I LOVED The Aeronaut’s Windlass, so much. I’m going to reread on audio as I bought it on sale. I read it originally in paperback! I’m pretty sure that is what I took to DragonCon in 2017 to have him sign because everything else is digital ebook and audio. There always seems to be plenty to do. It’s getting very hot so walks need to move to dinnertime, if it’s not raining.
You always amaze me with how much you get done in a week. I guess I may be lazy. You have some great looking books!
Don’t worry Sherry. I’m plenty lazy. I just write a few sentences each day so I remember what I did. And there’s always so much I want to do.
‘The Others May Live’ looks like a tear-jerker!!!
It’s more likely to be suspenseful with K9 teams / firefighters working in a collapsed building even though it is dangerous to them.
That strawberry jello pie is calling my name! I need to look that up! Your garden looks great – I need new tomato cages, mine are all busted up for some reason. I have one really nice heavy one that my uncle actually made, and I wish he were still here to help me make a few more.
Thanks Erin. There are lots of great videos about making tomato cages and support trellis out of cattle panels. I love mine.
