Sunday, I did the usual visiting blogs. I have been thinking about making some address labels and I have a huge box of ones which can be printed. I did some for my daughter with butterflies. I made some for my Mom with flowers. We had our chat for the Read-along and it was great getting some new ideas. Afterwards I roasted some tomatoes, onions and garlic, then pureed it with spices to make salsa. Yummy. I did more visiting and other computer tasks. Then I tried to install the Google thermostat. It didn’t go well. I texted Walter and they’ll stop by tomorrow.
Monday, planning for our big errand run tomorrow. The secretary of our precinct stopped by to drop off more mailing labels and blank postcards for me to write. I sent her off with completed ones and fresh tomatoes. Walter has COVID but sent his assistant. Cole couldn’t find anything we did wrong and couldn’t get it to work either. They referred us to our HVAC guys and I called them. The HVAC guys will be out tomorrow. My neighbor agreed to do some postcards and I took them over when Lulu and I walk with her and Abby. I finished my final BBNYA excerpt for this round. Then did some post setups. At bedtime, it was warm. I took a shower to cool off and only used a sheet.
Tuesday, Lulu and I walked right after breakfast and then the HVAC guy came. A fuse had blown in the furnace, probably because the shutoff is not in the garage it’s at the electric box. So everything is all working. He even installed the new thermostat and I did all the setup on my phone. Next we went off on the great errand run. We needed to go to 2 different pharmacies for my daughter’s RX and then Ulta for a lotion her dermatologist has her using, the dentist for her new retainer, I grabbed a couple items at Trader Joes since we were next door, and then a Papa Murphy’s pizza. I tried to do all my usual computer stuff then but I was nearly falling asleep. Lulu and my daughter WERE sleeping. I did manage to write some Democratic postcards before dinner and water the gardens after dinner. I don’t like how it is getting dark sooner!
Wednesday, so happy to have a day at home but so much to do. The weather is beautiful. It’s in the 70s (24C) and the humidity is low. I need to get out and do some yard stuff! I did some of the usual visiting and boosting posts and email cleanup. Then I spent another half hour writing Dem postcards. I have about 100 left which is about 3 hours by my how many I can do per half hour. I wrote a couple reviews and edited some to schedule for posting. Then I wrote postcards for another half hour. We went to Aldi’s for a few items and then stopped at Culvers because the flavor of the day is my favorite Double Salted Caramel Pecan. When I took Lulu outside, Marley came over to see me and I gave her mom another 6 tomatoes. I have 20 on the counter and there’s more to pick. After putting stuff away, and the farm box, I went up to do another half hour of postcard writing. Then it was time to walk Lulu with my daughter. I watered the gardens before dinner and picked the green beans and herbs.
Friday, I went to sleep a bit early and got up late to be energized for all I want to do today, but with a bit less time available. I picked about 20 more tomatoes from the garden and made a fresh tomato / basil sauce to have with pasta for lunch. I wrote another set of postcards while watching speeches and music from the DNC convention. I did the usual visiting blogs and emails. Then I wrote another round of postcards. I wrote a review and worked on another post. Then the final round of postcards. My neighbor brought over her postcards. The neighbor, my daughter and I walked Abby and Lulu. Then the precinct chair came over and picked up the postcards.
Saturday, another day with plenty to do and the weather is still nice. I’ve been going through options to fill the open slots in September and October. There are too many I want to read and not enough slots. Now I’m setting up posts for upcoming posts. Kelly and I walked with Lulu. Then I FINALLY did the edging and trimming in the yard. I made another batch of roasted salsa. This week is going to be hot again, 95F / 35C. I liked this week which was right around 80F / 27C.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
A big thanks to Recorded Books, Minotaur Books, Ace, Brilliance Audio (2).

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I got these in the Audible 2-1 credit sale after seeing Jonetta scoop them up.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

Chirp has been doing audio freebies on Fridays:

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

After being in the 70’s last week it’s up in the 90’s this weekend.
I go to Trader Joe’s every other week for a few favorite things. Happy reading this week, Toto looks fun.
yes we are getting the heat this week, Naida. I like Trader Joes for a few items. They have great Gluten free products.
Your little dog looks cute, as does the book cover for Toto. Makes me miss my bichon, who has been gone for a while now. Have a good week.
Thank you. We never stop missing them.
Our weather is very cool right now, although like you I think the temps are going back up this week. I have never made salsa, but now I want to try it! Sounds like you got a lot done this week😁
Thanks Tammy. Homemade salsa is really good. I can control the spice. I just put tomatoes, onions and garlic on a cookie sheet and under the broiler. Then they go in the Ninja but I have to be careful not to puree too much as I like it a bit chunky. It’s easy but fresh tomatoes are the best!
I meant to ask my brother last night if we could have a tomato from their garden! I will have to swing by today and ask. We weren’t able to have a garden this year and I miss a homegrown one. Enjoy your garden and have a good week!!
Erin, it is the best crop I have ever had and only ONE plant. But I grew the plant up in the tomato cage I built last year with a cattle panel. It’s taking time to figure out the best timing and care for each vegetable to get the best crops.
We had beautiful weather-70’s-last week. Today, 95. I’m already over it. It will be in the mid 90’s all week. That’s awesome that you are doing postcards to support Dems! Hope you have a great week and stay cool!
Thanks Samantha. At least it will be September next Sunday (unbelievable) and eventually the temps will drop.
Last week had some gorgeous low temp-low humidity days for us, too. I got out and enjoyed that and got some garden picking and tying off some of the heavier tomato vines. Your salsa and sauce sound great. I love doing fresh stuff this time of the year. Whew, you had a tiring errand day, but sounds like you got a great deal done at home, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia. I’d still like to be farther ahead on things but some of the pesky tasks that have been hanging on for a few weeks were finished which always feels good. The off thing now will be the fall garden in a few weeks which would not be a thing in Minnesota. Happy reading and have a great week!
It seems that you wrote a lot of postcards this week Anne!
yes election season is in full swing. I haven’t participated in the past but I am this year.
It doing it usual thing the weather here cool down, warm hot again, cool down, it always hard for summer to decide to give up and let fall arrive around here. Toto caught my eye i have to look that one up. Hope you have a good week.
Thank you Jan. yes there will be lots of weather ups and downs yet. Toto is a Wizard of Oz retelling.
Busy week! Glad you got the thermostat working. We had the heat last week, and over the weekend. But by the end of this coming week I think it will be closer to 80s. Which is nice for the annual Santa-Cali-Gon days festival we always go to. Have a good week!
Thanks Lisa. Glad to hear you are cooling a bit since we will get it later.
I’m looking forward to the 70’s it’s still near 100 here.
yes that kind of heat is why New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada were not on my list as strong possibilities as places to move.
Sounds like a really productive week! And good for you for writing postcards.
The weather this past week was really gorgeous, wasn’t it? We had one day that was about 72F — perfection! I’m not looking forward to getting back up into the 90s this week. It’s already 87 here today, and it’s supposed to get hotter in the next few days.
Enjoy your new books and your garden harvest!
Thank you Kara. It’s still August but after this week I hope we mostly shed the 90s. I’m trying to help with what I can for the election season. I need to start figuring out the fall garden.
I wish it was in the 70s here! We’re still in the 90s, and I’m over it. I hope you have a great week!
Thanks AJ. We’ll be hot again this week, then hopefully more reasonable. This past week was so nice.
What a week! Thank you for helping out with all the postcards! That looks like something I’d enjoy, but the work schedule keeps me from promising more than I could deliver 😉 I’ll have my new t-shirt to wear around my red town later this week, and that makes me happy. Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Thank you Becki! I do what I can. I ordered t-shirts at the end of July and no sign of them yet.
I love salsa. Yours sounds delicious. Your books look good. I hope you enjoy them.
Have a great week!
Thank you Yvonne. I love homemade salsa.
Another busy week for you Anne but you accomplished so much! Have a great week ahead.
Thank you Jodie. I feel a little more on top of things this week, which helps.
The cover for Displaced looks so gorgeous I couldn’t ignore it. It looks like you got a lot of great books! I hope you have another great week!
Thank you. With less appts this week I hope to get some things accomplished.
Can I stop by and grab some tomatoes to make a tomato tart and some BLTAs? f
It’s a pretty long drive Jinjer, but I’ve been giving them away because it’s a bumper crop. And a delicious one.
Darling Lulu💜 Hugs 🫂
Yay! So happy to see you got those Mitzner audiobooks. I think we will both be happy. We also share in getting The Reaping and The Swimmer.
Happy reading, Anne!
Thank you Jonetta. I think they will all be great reading.
Sounds like a productive week! I don’t enjoy fresh/raw tomatoes, but I do love all the stuff you made with it. Next time someone offers me tomatoes, I’ll have to roast them and make salsa, too!
Last week was busy getting my kids ready to leave the nest. We moved my baby to college on Friday and my son left on Saturday. Now I’m busy getting ready for our trip.
I’ll be so excited to hear about your trip!
We are back to temps in the high 90s this week and I’m not loving it. So glad your A/C is back working as that’s just miserable. Lulu is such a cutie! I love Culver’s and will have to keep an eye out for that flavor as that sounds delicious and then some. I hope you’re having a great week!
Thank you Katherine. It’s a miserable 90s for a few days but next week will be back to 80s and a north wind so I’m trying to hang in there.
We had some milder temps, too, and it even rained almost an inch when we were gone. It was hot in Texas! It’s back into the low 90s for a few days, but it cools way off in the evening. I can feel fall in the air, especially with the days shortening and some of our trees are already changing colors. Your tomatoes! I’m jealous. I wish my tomatoes did better this year! They were disappointing. Last year I had a bumper crop, zucchini, too. I’ve had really good Anaheim chilies, jalapeño, cilantro, and onions, which was perfect for making salsa. My cucumbers, carrots and summer squash have been good, too. Can’t win them all. Glad to hear you got your A/C sorted. No fun when the temps are high.
Thank you Rachel! It sounds like you have a great garden. Especially for having just moved. I’m dreaming of the fall garden to plant in a couple weeks. But the tomatoes, chard, herbs, and squash are still producing so I won’t have much space for new plantings.
I’m loving the ‘Displaced’ cover!!!
People have mentioned that cover! I pay more attention to the book than covers, but I like covers with nature scenes, leaves, flowers. That doesn’t always relate to the books I read though. lol
Last week was so gorgeous and this week so not. lol At least this coming week should be better. You got a lot done last week! I feel like a slug.
I’m sure you are not a slug Carol. This week with the heat – I feel like a slug. I’m behind enough I just spent some afternoons just reading and nothing else which is unusual as I am usually multitasking. I really hope next week we get the predicted slight cool down. I’m done with 90s with high dewpoints!
Sounds like a fairly busy week. Hope you have a wonderful long weekend.
Thank you! It looks like it will switch over to a north wind tomorrow so it should be a good weekend.
