Sunday,
I slept until I woke because this week will get demanding fast. We have Abbey coming Tuesday, Marley on Saturday. So we will have both during the day until Abbey goes home Saturday night. Today I searched for new facial moisturizer with sunscreen which doesn’t have chemical sunscreens. I also am going through our sunscreens. Some are old and some with chemicals need to be pitched. I did a lot today but also I seemed to be slow and run out of time. Tomorrow is the last day I can sleep in a bit later. We walked Lulu after dinner and it was still hot enough. We met neighbors with their dog, Pepe. We saw another neighbor we know with Huckleberry and Heidi. The mosquitos were bugging me when we stopped to talk to them. I took some garden photos: the herb garden, the north end with chard, green beans, more Swiss chard and a tomato plant, and the south end with beets, carrots, another tomato variety and more Swiss chard. I hope to finish up the beets soon so we can plant some zucchini.

Monday, so I checked to see and my OTC balance has the total $45 remaining so I’ll have to go out today. There are also a few grocery items to pickup so I might as well make one big trip. It wasn’t as hot as I expected and I did all the 4 stops. Late afternoon, the neighbor brought over Abbey’s bed and food.
Tuesday, I got right up and the neighbor brought Abbey to me. We went outside and I harvested more of the beets in our yard. It’s hot but it doesn’t seem as bad. I couldn’t get Abbey to go upstairs and later not outside. I did something unusual. I put Abbey and Lulu downstairs together and they were quiet. My daughter took over in the afternoon. Abbey is a different girl this time; she is slowing down and sleeping a lot. I took her outside again to go and we had to help her get up and back in the house. I wrote a couple reviews. I finally caught up some on answering comments. I don’t know how I got so far behind. We walked the dogs but Abbey only went a few houses and I took her home while my daughter walked Lulu on the normal route.
Wednesday, I woke up a lot during the night. I finally gave up at about 4:30am. So I was early taking the dogs out and feeding them. I ate breakfast and saw deer behind my back fence! That’s the first time I’ve seen them even though I know they have eaten my flowers on the side and front of the house which aren’t fenced. Abbey seemed more awake this morning. She even came upstairs which she didn’t do all day yesterday. I made calls to schedule some appts. In the late morning, we went to a quick checkup for my daughter. OMG when you get up early the day goes on forever. But I am getting some things accomplished. We walked Abbey and Lulu at 4pm after the rains and before the next batch of storms. They both did well. I was glad to see Abbey more lively than the previous day.
Thursday, there was a little barking this morning and no dog ate their food. I did keep them from the others’ food. Eventually I got Abbey in the office with her food and the door closed and Lulu in the hall in front of my daughter’s door with her food. I had lots of little things I wanted to do. Mostly I did some visiting and wrote reviews. Then it was time to go to my daughter’s gastro specialist appt. It’s about an hour drive each way but the traffic was ok. The appt was easy since everything is going well right now. The wind is out of the north so unless you are in the direct sun it isn’t bad. I called to a new vet and made an appt for later this month. My brother is on the rampage looking into solar options for my house and we have a zoom next week with a guy he knows. We walked Abbey and Lulu. I thought about mowing the lawn but decided to wait until tomorrow. Abbey barked a lot at bedtime which she hasn’t been doing. But there were some fireworks so maybe that woke her.
Friday, I was a little slow, like 10 minutes, and there was barking. The weather really feels nice this morning. While the dewpoint is still rather high, the humidity is actually low. I did the same food strategy that worked yesterday. I’m doing my usual blog stuff, struggling with the 2026 Read-along decision. I decided to knit for awhile on my sweater for my grand-nephew. We walked and it seemed warmer than yesterday. I still decided to get the front yard mowed before dinner.
Saturday, I trimmed some big weeds along the back fence when I took the dogs out before breakfast. I did the same food strategy which went fine. Getting up early gives me lots of quiet time in the morning to do things. I worked on the 2026 Read-along stuff a bit. We walked with Abbey and Lulu before dinner. The neighbor should be here after dinner to pick her up.

I am loving audiobooks this year as usual. They fit seamlessly into my life now. My goal was 125 but since I am already at 90 I’ll probably hit the top bracket. My challenge bar on the right doesn’t show everything I have read because I don’t review everything on the blog. They all get updated on Goodreads which you can see here on my Audio25 shelf.
June Reading: I managed to read 23 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
None.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

Chirp Friday freebies:

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Sweet Lulu💜…and friend!
I got the Ruth Ware book, too. I’m hoping I don’t need to remember too many details from the first book. Enjoy your reading, Anne!
Thank you Jonetta. I would say you don’t need to remember much from the first book. I have nearly finished it, should finish today.
I used to have an herb garden, one year a rabbit dug a hole under the thyme and had her babies there. I went to go prune it and my fingers brushed fur. I lifted the edge of the plant and there they were.
There are bunnies in our area but so far not in my raised garden beds.
We use Blue Lizard sunscreen for face and for body. I also have the Good Molecules face sunscreen as well. I wonder if either would work for you.
The humidity here this weekend has been oppressive. Lol. I am ready for it to calm down.
Thank you Erin. Blue Lizard is one I considered. I ended up getting Vanicream and Reef Friendly to try first. It was better this past week here and this upcoming week looks rainy in the late afternoon every day kind of thing.
Badger is supposed to be a really good chemical free sunscreen. And I’m not just saying that because of the name, lol. Love the photos of the dogs and your garden. I hope Abbey is ok, is she a senior? Have a good week, Anne😁
Thank you Tammy. I look at Badger. I’m trying Vanicream today. yes Abbey is 14 and slowing down, she is having trouble digesting protein which can’t be good.
Looks like you’re doing good work-arounds for the hot days and to keep the dogs. I did a rat-sit this week for friends who went on vacation and had to do some adjustments for her. I was glad our hot days had less dew point so it was just heat and not muggies, too. Hopefully, Saturday with both guest dogs went well.
Have a great week, Anne!
oh I forgot to note. Marley postponed until this Thursday. But yes, we made adjustments based on the heat. This week looks to be a lot more rainy which is good for the plants and seems cooler to me.
We do have solar panels here for many years now and it’s a great help and a good decision. I guess we will have to change them soon though…
Thank you Sophie. I’ve thought about it for awhile. It’s part of why I got a whole new roof in 2021 and now 4 years have flown by already.
Sweet Abbey!! She looks like she is getting older. Glad she was able to settle in a little with you! Your gardening skills are always amazing to me-I can’t grow anything but weeds.
yes Abbey is 14. She is well familiar with us as we have walked with her for a few years and she stays with us whenever the neighbor goes out of town.
Yay for 23 books last month! Poor Abbey, sounds like she’s the same age as Dora who is also slowing down a bit these days. The heat has not been fun here, although there have been not so humid days or nice windy days mixed in to kind of keep it from just being constant misery. I think the read along sounds like a good series and I liked what I listened to on the Audible sample, so I look forward to joining in again later this year!
yes Abbey is 14. I’m glad you enjoyed the sample and I looks so forward to have you reading with us again!
Cute dogs pictures. My dog Falcor is 11 years old now and sleeps a lot too.
Lulu is 7.5 but seems to have good energy. I think all dogs sleep a lot though.
Your garden looks great! My tomatoes, zucchini, and summer squash are really going now. Poor Abbey. I wonder what’s going on with her. I need to do up a mid year check in for my audiobook challenge. Haven’t had time to think of it.
Thanks Rachel. I hope this week we will finish the beets so I can finally plant zucchini. I’m not doing carrots another year. I didn’t do the planting right so they didn’t get very big.
Lovely book haul. Great job on listen to so many audiobooks.
Have a great July
Thank you Angela. I get sidetracked some days but mostly things are chugging along.
I’m glad to hear your daughter is doing well. Your garden looks wonderful. We are harvesting the last of our lettuce right now and I’m waiting for tomatoes to ripen. Have a great week.
Thank you Jodie. I love hearing about your garden.
You’re doing great with audio books! I really have to get into them. I keep getting Audible offers. So glad to hear your daughter is doing well. Have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. Audiobooks have intertwined into all parts of my life now. I hadn’t really read them much until 2014 and I started with CDs imagine that!
Your veggies are looking amazing! Kudos to you for working so hard to help Abby feel at home – though it sounds as if you’ve managed to get a lot done getting up so much earlier:). And I’ll be interested to know if you enjoy The Body on the Beach if you manage to get to it.
Thanks Sarah. I love having all the fresh veggies on hand. It’s so hot now for the cool season crops but we are still getting some.
I keep seeing Kelly Oliver’s books around this week — surely a sign, hehehe.
Sounds like you’ve had a super busy week!
Thank you Nicky. Every week is super busy it seems. The series looks pretty fun.
It’s Wednesday and we are on a delay at the airport in Detroit. No worries! We had a great time at my parents. The weather was perfect, but for one day, and I spent that day reading. I’m looking foward to getting home and seeing my cats, getting back on our summer routine.
So glad you had a nice trip. It’s always great to be home though.
90!?!?!?! amazing!
My earbuds might as well be surgically implanted.
This is my first year being able to grow basil and trying my hand at a few veggies. I’m good with flowers and all the other herbs.
I’m kind of new with audiobooks but I doubt I’d have many books read without them. I’ve doen 12 this year, so far, but that’s more than I thought I would get to.
It’s always a great surprise when I find things I can grow (or can’t grow) here since I’ve only been in NC for 10 years and had a garden space for 6. I miss rhubarb and spinach hasn’t worked for me well here. Both spinach and lettuce have been good from plants but not seeds. My squash have been always eaten by bugs. The herbs do well and basil is a real favorite of ours. It looks like it is heat-fried right now though even though we are getting rain nearly every day.
I only started listening to audio (on CDs!) when I was packing to move here from Minnesota and driving between. Now they are completely intertwined in my life. They are just so convenient for multi-tasking.
We were on staycation the week leading up to the 4th. I kind of ended up taking a mini-blog hiatus. Since my job has me on a laptop the entire day when I’m off, it’s hard to boot mine up. It has been so hot and the pups haven’t been out this week much, but we did get up and walk them early each morning when we were on vacation – even though I wanted to sleep in. Glad you decided on next years read-along. I haven’t gotten Sweep in Peace reviewed yet but I did get it read in June and ended up loving it. The pups are so adorable. Neither of mine now are very afraid of fireworks but they did get a bit on edge Friday night when the neighborhood sounded like a warzone from 10:30pm-12:00am.
Thanks Barb. Glad you had a nice staycation. Morning is the time to walk or do yard work when it is this hot. Thrilled you are enjoying Innkeeper; it’s a favorite. yes I’ll be sending out an email as I get the reviews figured out for the 2026 RA. The kickoff will be end of September because we will start in October.
Sounds like you had a busy week and it sounds like this week was going to be busy too. I’ve had a crazy last few weeks as well and am planning on taking some serious time to relax in the next couple of weeks. I’m so curious about the Ruth Ware book. I loved the first one and really look forward to seeing your thoughts on this one. I hope you’ve had a great week!
Thanks. I already reviewed the Ruth Ware book earlier in the week. It always seems to be busy. It’s a rash of medical appts for my daughter, some checkups, some further treatment for issues. I always say that I’m going to take time to relax and sometimes I do but more often I have to deal with the latest issues.
