Sunday, I feel a little off this morning. Lulu, Marley and I stayed in the kitchen/ family room after going out, all of us kind of dozing. I had some tea and toast, listened to my audiobook. We went outside again before going upstairs. Goodreads is being weird. I got a delivery from Walmart and I’m so proud, I remembered to add candy for stockings with just 1 minute, 40 seconds left to add to the order! I also got chicken livers for the dogs. I edited and scheduled some reviews. We walked Marley and Lulu, and Marley was very barky at one of the neighbor’s dogs so we went the opposite way on the walk. They are now racing up and down the hallway between the bathroom where my daughter is showering and me in the office. I made a batch of food with the chicken livers. I thought they might smell bad but it was fine. They ate it right up. The ice maker has decided to only crush and not cube which is usually a few hundred to repair. It seems to happen about every 2 years. We never use crushed ice. I was really exhausted and went right to sleep.
Monday, I woke up kind with my nose hurting and a little stuffy. I pushed myself to get the sheets changed and wash my hair. I really don’t feel great. I discovered yesterday that the posts didn’t share over to Goodreads. I thought it was because of Goodreads error messages – it may be – but none of my posts have gone since last Tuesday. However, Robin’s post went today, just fine. For now, I am manually copying over the reviews to Goodreads. I tried to take it easy today. After dinner, my brother called and my Mom had passed away.
Tuesday, I felt better when I got up but one side of my nose is swollen. I think sinus infection. My neighbor brought Abbey over at 10 and I have the whole pack now. We went outside and then to the office. Goodreads seems to be working again. We went to the dentist appt and then to pick up a few items at Aldi’s, Trader Joes, and a pizza at Papa Murphys, then Harris Teeter for some Rx. I also have an infected tooth which will need to be pulled. My sinuses hurt but not the tooth. After putting stuff away, we walked Lulu, Marley and Abbey. Then I got their dinner and ours.
Wednesday, I followed my usual routine and kept the dogs quiet. Marley continues to be a member of the clean plate club which is actually unusual for her. Lulu has been a bit picky. Abbey is always kind of fussy, although she ate a full breakfast yesterday after arriving. Today /tomorrow will be really nice 70sF / 21C. Hopefully I can pace myself. There’s food I want to make but we will see how it goes.
Thursday, it was raining lightly when we went out but the dogs got the job done. I started bacon in the oven and started work on the gluten-free cinnamon rolls with apples, raisins and pecans. I also finally wrapped my daughter’s gifts and filled the stockings. The rain stopped quickly and it was nice the next trip out. I even got oranges to make fresh orange juice. My daughter got up mid day and we opened gifts while the rolls baked. She was really excited about the Murderbot – Sanctuary Moon T-shirt I got for her. Our neighbor got us the jam selection. Now I’ve got to finish up those Top 10 posts. I did pretty well with those but I’ll have 2 more to do tomorrow.
Friday, the week has gone faster than expected. Today is a drop of 20 degrees than back up tomorrow. I went to look for my Mom’s scrapbook I made which was 1927-1950 years and I can’t find it! I have the 1950s book which came next where she got married and taught school. I’m going to have to look for it but really it’s weird because it should be in the bookcase with all the other scrapbooks I’ve done. She had it but I thought she gave it back when she went to assisted living (which I also thought was weird.) I wrote one review, and finished up another Top 10 post. I only have one Top 10 left to complete. We took the dogs out for their chilly walk a bit early since Marley would be leaving. One neighbor came to get Marley and she was happy to go home. We kept things low key with neither of us feeling great.
Saturday, I woke up with kind of a headache and again neither of us is feeling great. Abbey wouldn’t take her meds last night and is doing some vomiting this morning. The weather is back up to 70, really nice but only Lulu will be peppy for a walk. I wrote some reviews and got them ready to go. I still have one Top 10 to figure out and my end of year library post to do. I found some audios I really wanted on Netgalley. The only other time I had a sinus infection was 1997 and the last time I had a cold was early in 2021, but before that 2003. I’m rarely sick and I hate feeling non-optimal. I can function. I’m just tired.
My 2026 Audiobook Challenge has gone well. I was trying for I Can’t Hear You (earbuds always in) 125-150. I managed to listen to 184 audiobooks and will probably fit in 2 more yet. Audiobooks used to be about half of my reading but they are about 75% these days. If you want to see all my books, they are here on my Audio25 Goodreads shelf.
I will be going for I Can’t Hear You (earbuds always in) 125-150 again in 2026.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Many thanks to Penguin Audio, Podium, and Brilliance Audio (3).

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
None.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

Chirp Friday freebies:

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Sorry to hear you weren’t feeling too great this week with the sinus infection, hopefully you’re feeling better soon. That sounds annoying with the posts not working on Goodreads for a bit, but glad it got resolved. Those cinnamon rolls you made look so good! And that’s nice your daughter was happy with the gifts you got her. I am glad you’re hosting the top 10 posts again, I always enjoy making those posts and seeing other people’s lists.
Thank you Lola. I really enjoy seeing your posts with lists too! I’m feeling better today.
Sweet Lulu and friends💜 Love those bows.
Sorry you’re feeling under the weather. I used to have chronic sinus infections until I changed my diet (lactose free milk and limited wheat). Hope you’re feeling better.
I got the Brolly and Dugoni books, too. Enjoy your reading, Anne!
Thank you Jonetta. Those bows are poo bags. We are totally gluten free. My daughter takes Lactaid but I don’t seem to have a problem with dairy. I m feeling better. They gave me antibiotics for the tooth and it is taking down the sinus infection as well. Mostly I slept well last night and that really helps.
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. And I hope you feel better soon. I don’t get sick very often either, and I forget how awful it feels. Goodreads was really wonky last week, which is so hard when you use it as much as we do. I hope this week is better for you.
Thank you Tammy. I’m feeling better as I slept well last night.
Oh no! Hope you’re feeling better soon and the pups cooperate. Off to see some of your top 10s! Great job on all the reading/listening this year 🙂
Thank you Becki. I am feeling better. The last pup guest goes home today so that will be stress reliever. We love having them but it is extra to make sure they are happy and healthy too.
My condolences on the loss of your mom.
I hope you are feeling better soon, and get some rest while you are recovering.
Enjoy your ARCs they look great
Wishing you a wonderful reading week, and a very happy New Year
Thank you Shelleyrae. It’s been a weird week. I am feeling better and very excited about my new ARCs.
I feel you with the weather! We had a really warm couple of days (high 60’s and low 70’s) and then today my phone told me it would be 31 degrees COLDER. My phone says it’s 21 degrees and feels like 9 right now. There are snow flurries and a light dusting on the ground. Weather whiplash!
yes! It went 70-50-70-50-70 this week, so weird weather. Today it’s 50 and tomorrow almost 70 but then it goes on straight days of 50 which is the normal high. I hope we both get some middle of the road weather. The 70s are so lovely though.
The 70’s have been really lovely, yes! I think today’s high is 60, so definitely better than the 29 from the other day. Brrrr. I hope you have a wonderful New Year, Anne!
Thank you! Happy New Year. Next week looks like mid 60s next week, warmer than originally forecast. It will probably change again before next week.
I hope you get to feeling better, it is definitely no fun and especially not during this time of year. A full house of dogs! Glad Lulu seems to be doing better as well. I hope Abbey is okay. I should figure out how to have my reviews go automatically from here to my Goodreads. I remember doing something when I had the Blogger site, but haven’t looked at it with the new WordPress. That would be good as I really only go copy ones that are review copies to other spots besides my blog these days due to time or lack of time I should say. Anyway, sounds like mostly a nice week, hope this one is good and you get to feeling back to normal!
Thank you Lisa. I am feeling better, good sleep last night. Abbey is doing better today although seems subdued but she will go home today and that will perk her up. We did get her to finally take her medicine which reduces her nausea. It’s easy to send to Goodreads from UBB.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom, Anne. I hope you get to feeling better! The cinnamon rolls look delicious.
Thank you Stephanie. She was 98.5 so it was going to happen but still sad. I am feeling better. They don’t raise quite as much being gluten free but they are tasty. I use the same recipe and just use GF flour. It has buttermilk in the dough. And I put in raisins, apples and pecans. It’s easy enough I could make it more often than I do.
Such a bummer to not feel well or get sick. My hubby and kid where sick and then of course I ended up getting sick Christmas Eve and Day. =/ Life!! Great book haul. Hope you enjoy. I’m also doing the audiobook challenge again for 2026. It seems to work better for me then reading. Have a great last week of December and Happy New Year!
Thank you Angela. I hope you are all feeling better now. I am feeling better. I can hardly believe this year is almost over. Happy New Year.
We’re all better now, but I had to power through the holidays since I was hosting Christmas Dinner ^_^. I slept a lot on Boxing Day just to recover. I know I can’t believe the year is almost over. It went bye so fast.
I’m so sorry about your mom.
I’ve had 3 sinus infections this year, they are not fun. I hope you’re feeling better.
Thank you Mary. I’m thankful I don’t get them often. The dentist gave me antibiotics for the tooth (even though it didn’t hurt) but that has brought down the sinus infection too, so I’m feeling better today.
Sorry you aren’t feeling well. I devoured Twelve Months. Always good to spend time with Dresden. Merry Christmas!
Thank you Kimberly. I’ve had some good reading. I’ll get to 12 months soon I’ve got 2 more ahead of it but at least I’m not behind anymore. I’m feeling better today.
Hope you have a great week & a Happy New Year!
Thank you Bree. Holiday wishes to you and Happy New Year!
I’m sorry to hear about your mom! We’ve just had cold weather and a ton of rain lately, but we warm up to 60 degrees tomorrow! Finally some sun! Hope you feel better!
Thank you Rachel. We are going to average temps now 50s days / 30s nights. Some sun would be nice but lead to a colder night.
I’m sorry about your Mom. 🙁
Congrats on remembering to order the candy for stocking at the last minute! Always a fist pumping moment when you squeeze something in before they start shopping.
What??? Crushed ice is the BEST ice!!!!
Thank you Jinjer. I haven’t even thought about the crushed ice much with everything else and usually it annoys me So it’s fine for now.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. Even when one knows it is coming, it doesn’t make it any easier. I also hope you feel better soon.
I was gone on vacation, visiting my parents in Florida for the week, including Christmas. It was so nice to have sunshine and warm weather. But now it’s good to be home (and off for another week!). We have a lot of to do type things this coming week, so it’s not going to be just chilling all week.
I didn’t read all of the posts from when I was gone, so you may have mentioned it, but were you able to get your rebate from Duke?
Thank you Jen. It was a weird week. I am feeling better. Duke has told me I am getting the rebate but not when. I’ve gotten a little better on track with my reading, but I hope to stay ahead this week. Maybe I can get to a few sewing or knitting projects I haven’t managed for a couple months.
Sorry you weren’t feeling well Anne. Cinnamon buns are also a tradition in my household. I make two pans, and use the Foodsaver bags to preserve them in the freezer – I do not let them go through the second proof. Then on Christmas Eve and again on NYE I take them out of their bags and let them rise overnight and bake them when I get up in the morning. Nothing better than a fresh cinnamon roll on a holiday morning!
Thank you Jodie. I’m doing better. I made this batch all in the morning but my daughter gets up so late there is time for them to raise.
I’m so sorry about your mom. I hope you are feeling better.
Thank you Yvonne. It was a weird week. I’m feeling better.
I’m sorry about your mom. Mine is in assisted living. When she moved in she kept trying to give me things that seemed odd too. I hope you are on the mend.
Thank you Olivia. I am feeling better.
I think I did pick up ‘How to Outwit a Wizard’
I have read a book by Amy Boyles before and the cover is cute.
I’m so sorry about your mom. And I hope you and your daughter feel better soon. I used to get sinus infections about once a year (My sister is prone to them as well) but I’ve learned that if I start using my neti pot as soon as I feel anything suspicious in my sinuses, I can usually head them off now. Thank goodness.
Thank you Jen. I rarely get any kind of sick so it just seemed like a pile on of stressful circumstances last week. But I’m feeling better and trying to make some plans and progress this week.
I am very sorry to hear of your Mum’s passing. It’s always a shock as it’s the end of an era. And also sorry about the sinus infection and toothache – always so very painful!! And when you’ve also got a bunch of dogs to take care of, too. As for your weather – those temperature swings are just crazy. No wonder you became ill! Wishing you better and a very Happy New Year to you and yours:)).
Thank you Sarah. I don’t think the weather caused the sinus infection. I think just the combo of germs and stress but luckily I don’t get sick often. The dentist gave me antibiotics for the tooth (which didn’t hurt) but also worked for the sinus infection (which did hurt). I’m feeling fine this week just trying to rest up and stay warm.
Hope you’re feeling a bit better physically now, and sorry to hear about your mom.
Thank you Nicky. I am feeling better.
I hope you’re feeling better. Sinus infections can be so miserable and the tooth sounds awful. Otherwise it sounds like a nice week! Yay for remembering about the candy with time to spare. Definitely a win! I hope you’re having a wonderful week.
Thank you Katherine. I’m feeling much better this week.
I hope you feel better soon. I had a broken tooth that led to a sinus infection also a few years back, the antibiotics helped alot until they were able to pull it. It’s been too cold here to walk Otis lately plus we’ve had snow. Its 27 today but feels like 8 according to the weather app lol. Enjoy your books and happy new year! The dogs look cozy and relaxed.
Thank you Naida. My tooth has a crack and maybe it did lead to the sinus infection. ? The dogs were good but it’s still a bit stressful. I’m feeling much better this week.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom and being sick. Not a fun way to end the year. I hope you find the scrapbooks! I’m going to get Twelve Months with my B&N gift cards. I haven’t read Dresden in quite awhile and I’m thinking of starting from the beginning before I read it. I have the audios too so hopefully it wouldn’t take all that long. I see you picked up Murder Most Pemberley. I love Red Adept’s books though I haven’t read that one yet. Did you know they’re in Garner? Happy New Year!
Thank you Carol. It was rather a downer week, but I’m feeling better now. yes I know Red Adept is in Garner which is actually the burb I live in. The Dresden audios are fantastic. I have them all. I’ve wanted to do them as a Read-along but it’s so many for a year. Happy New Year!
