Even with an ex-SEAL racing to her side, survival isn’t guaranteed. On leave from the battlefields of Afghanistan, Major Dani Addams, finds herself in the fight of her life. She leaves few clues about the dangers she’s in. Now, everything depends on a stranger and his dog.
Tripwire’s mission: Find her.
A member of Iniquus Security’s elite tactical K9 search and rescue team, Trip and his K9 Valor are on cliff’s edge as an unprecedented storm advances. When they get to Dani, Valor’s behavior is inexplicable. What about this woman is throwing Valor off her training? Trip always trusts his dog—something about this situation isn’t what it seems.
With his life and his heart on the line, Trip risks it all to protect her. Will it be enough?
I love K9 stories so I was excited to start this new romantic suspense series, Cerebus Tactical K9. There was a good amount of dog actual work and training exercises. I don’t know if these are accurate depictions but I enjoyed the detail of how and why certain methods were used and specific equipment. It was also nice to get a bit of background and get to know some of the different members on the team and their dogs.
The characters were all right but seemed to repeat the same ideas and be focused on them. I won’t say more about it as it is spoilerish. The planning and work of actual search and rescue during freak unexpected weather was thrilling. The team was smart and strategic.
The romance and sex scenes didn’t work for me. They were just too fast. I expect that in romantic suspense because of the life-death situations and they are thrown together. The rescuer may feel protective; the injured may feel a joy of being alive. But I wanted more development of the characters and their connection.
I liked this book. I look forward to reading more in the series to see if things are more developed. I also want to spend more time with the dogs.
I think it is the first time I have listened to this narrator. I thought he did a comfortable job with the voices as I was able to stay in the story. I listened at my normal 1.5x speed.
