All communities have their secrets…but on Widow’s Island, there’s a skeleton in every closet, as Deputy Tessa Black knows all too well. When Tessa stumbles upon a half-buried body in the woods, a peaceful morning hike suddenly turns into a race to catch a killer.
Tessa identifies the skeletal corpse as Aurora Franklin, a young college student and aspiring actor. She’d come to Widow’s Island for a summer job, only to be strangled and discarded. Aurora has been dead for over a month—and not a single islander has reported her missing.
The investigation reveals a dangerous predator hiding in the Widow’s Island community. With her fiancé, park ranger Logan Wilde, by her side, Tessa must find Aurora’s murderer before they strike again.
I read the first 4 books in this Widow’s Island series through Kindle Unlimited. They are written alternately by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. I enjoy both these authors in their mystery genre work. This series is all short novellas so I have to be more careful not to spoil too much. I really enjoy these for quick and easy reading.
Tessa is the main character but most of our known people make at least a brief appearance. The island is small so they all know each other.  Tessa and Logan have furthered their relationship. He is living with Tessa and helping out with her sister and her mother. Logan is all in to make her life easier.
The couple is out together and find a mostly decomposed body. Tessa sets all the processing in motion. She is a well trained and experienced detective. She and Logan investigate to find who murdered this woman. They do a good job of running down all the leads and information.
I enjoyed this very short novella for both the case and the progression of their personal relationships.

Narration:
Christine Williams has narrated the entire series until now, so Jane Oppenheimer was new to me. I’m happy to say I found the narration comfortable and well performed.  I listened at my usual 1.5x speed.

I always look forward to this series each fall. 🙂
They tend to be short but I really enjoy them.
everything about the book appeals to me
I’m enjoying the series with its short reads.
So glad you enjoyed this one! I’m glad the narrator change didn’t affect your enjoyment of the book.
I sometimes don’t handle narrator changes so I was happy this one worked well.
These sound great, especially if you’re in the mood for a quick read.
yes the whole series is perfect for a shorter read. I really enjoy both these authors.
