This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series on audio which I have discovered and read over this past year. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others.
Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite discoveries in Audiobook series this year are (in no particular order):
Orphan X Georgina Kincaid
by Gregg Hurwitz , narrated by Scott Brick by Richelle Mead, narrated by Elisabeth Rodgers
Psy-Changeling Trinity Amos Decker
by Nalini Singh, narrated by Angela Dawe by David Baldacci, narrated by Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy
DI Clare Mackay King’s Lake Investigation
by Marion Todd, narrated by Marion Todd by Peter Grainger, narrated by Gildart Jackson

I love the Amos Decker series on audio with its dramatic enhancements. But my favorites this year has been DI Kim Stone by Angela Marsons, Tracy Crosswhite by Robert Dugoni, and my reread of the Troubleshooters series by Suzanne Brockmann on audio.
Thanks for sharing Jonetta. I love those. I haven’t listened to Troubleshooters on audio but it’s been so long since I read them I may need to do a refresh.
My favorites this year are more like rediscoveries since I’ve already read the series and even listened to the narrators when they did different series. I love Davina Porter reading the Sebastian St. Cyr series and Renee Raudman reading the Kate Daniels series. Hugh Fraser reading Agatha Christie books, Alexandra Harris reading The Others series, Amanda Ranconi reading any of Danielle Garrett’s series.
I have the Orphan X on my reading list.
Your choices are all excellent!
I really like a number of series and narrators on audiobook. Susan Erickson elevates the In Death series by JD Robb so much. I’ve listedned to the books so many times I actually hear her voice in my head when I read the paper books. Like Jonetta, I think Alexandra Harris does a fantastic job with The Others. Luke Daniels does the definitive irish wolfhound in The Iron Druid series and Lorelei King does a great job in every series she does especially The Stephanie Plum and Mercy Thompson series. The next series I’m collecting is Louise Penny’s Three Pines series. Both male narrators do a good job.
You’ve brought up a couple I can’t do because I have the narrator as a different character. I can’t listen to Susan Erickson for In Death because she sounds too old and she’s VI Warshawski. And I can’t do King as Mercy Thompson because I hear Charley Davidson. It doesn’t happen very often luckily and I love both those narrators. I have yet to try Louise Penny.
I have the same problem. Susan does Patricia Cornwall’s Kate something (I forget) series (post Mortem, etc.) and I couldn’t get used to it.
I haven’t listened to a full series on audiobooks for a while. It’s a great way to get through a series for sure.
I enjoy it for a particular type of book and especially when it is a great narrator.
I’m going to go with Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series as my top audiobook series. Kate is an extremely interesting character, made even more so by Renee Raudman’s narration, and she grows and changes throughout the series. And, of course, there’s Curran, one of the great alpha male characters in PNR/urban fantasy.
Well you can’t go wrong with Ilona Andrews, ever.
I haven’t gotten to listen to any yet, but I really want to listen to Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling and some others!
We did the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh last year for the Read-along. It was really an amazing and very enjoyable series so I hope you get a chance to read it.
I love the Illuminae audiobooks – they’re full cast and have great sound effects 🙂
Thank you for sharing. I just listened to the first one.
This (2022) year I haven’t yet picked up an audiobook, so nothing new, yet.
Some of my favorites are ones I’ve revisited many times especially when I get into a slump. Of course on the top of that list is Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels series, Hidden Legacy series, Innkeeper Chronicles series) – can’t say enough good things about the author and their narration picks ^_^.
Then we have G.A. Akien (Dragon Kin series) she is also know as Shelly Laurenston, which has the (Pride series) I enjoy both series a lot. The narrators bring out the humor and fun banter.
Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson series). It’s Mercy!
If your into CR then I recommend Gena Showalter (The Original Heart Breakers series) narrated by Savannah Richards. I feel in love with with the first 4 books and very much loved how Richards narrated. She brought out the characters and feels.
Some great picks. I read a lot of audio so this is ones new to me this year.
I can’t say that I have any favorites from the past year but these are my top three audiobook series: Mercy Thompson (Lorelei King), Dresden Files (James Marsters), Kate Daniels (Renee Raudman).
Those are all great choices. I just try to pick some new favorites each June that I discovered.
Hmm, it’s hard to pick one series. But I would probably go with the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover. That series was one of the first I listened to when I started doing audiobooks. And I love how she has different narrators for every boo since they are different characters.
yes it doesn’t have to be one favorite I picked 6 and they are just ones from this past year reading not all-time. Thanks for sharing one you enjoy.
The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman are my all time favorite audiobooks because theres a full cast of narrators and sound effects! The story is told in journal format so listening to it was the best!
Thanks for sharing. It doesn’t have to be all time favorites. I was just doing new series I enjoyed this past year.
Amos is one i want to listen to and I loved Mead’s series.
These were the new series I read and loved over the last year. Amos had lots of 5 heart reads.
