Sunday, 2:30 in the afternoon and I’m the only one awake in the house. My daughter is still on the awake at night program and my ex must have stayed up with her. I’m just glad she’s doing well with her classes this fall. I’m doing the usual Sunday visiting. I’m going to walk Lulu early since it’s going to rain tonight again. I’m making Chicken Wild Rice soup for dinner. I can’t believe that a week ago Thursday was 95F / 35C and just a week later I broke down and turned on the heat because it is getting in the 40s at night, but the days are pleasant with 60s-70s. I felt so badly about sending Lulu out in the pouring rain and high winds that I ordered a fake turf with a tray we can put in the garage for her to use in bad weather, that can be easily cleaned and reused.
Monday, I stayed up late so it wasn’t to be an early start. However, I attacked my tasks with energy. Lulu and I did a medium walk. We figured out the last place to put the sod. I ordered some of my daughter’s prescriptions that were almost out. I finally got the box with the spare printer packed up along with a couple totes with my daughter’s wrong sized clothes which I put in the attic storage and pulled out her riding boots.
Tuesday, when I took Lulu out the neighbors were out and I let their dog Marley in with Lulu so they could run and play in our fenced backyard. Lulu seemed a bit scared though. I thought it was weird because in foster care she ran with 3 dogs bigger than Marley. But she doesn’t know Marley yet. Hopefully, in a short time she and Marley can play once in awhile. The squirrels took out another chair last night; that’s 3 ruined now. Well now the kitchen sink is clogged so much of the day was spent working on it. There was also the last of the sod to be placed. I walked Lulu on a medium route. A neighbor dropped off his 32 foot extension ladder so we can do some repairs on the house and clean the gutter, and also look at the window that was leaking better. My daughter’s rough draft of her paper is due Saturday so I read that and gave her some comments. Another publisher offered a prize for the 2023 Read-along.
Wednesday, we gave in and placed a claim with the home warranty for the sink because it didn’t clear with a 25 foot snake. We still need to look at the window that leaked. The vacuum isn’t working right. It feels like everything is broken right now. Somehow I’m reading 3 fantasy books at the same time and that is not working for me. I may take a break today to read a different genre. So we took a trip to Wilmington similar to what we did in May. We left later, did not go to the beach, only the NC Aquarium and we ate at the same restaurants because we knew they had gluten free options. The weather was really lovely. I ended up listening to my review and buddy reads even though they are both fantasy, but I’m going to read something else tonight.
Thursday, The home warranty can’t get anybody out until Monday so we are trying another company that can come today. I’m tired because we got home late, so even though I didn’t read anything, my daughter lost an earring while we were out and wanted to order a new one, and was determined to transfer over to her new iphone after 11pm. Also, she was studying for her test today and worried about it. I thought she should focus on the studying and wait with the rest until after her test. The company that came late in the day wanted to charge 4 times what the other company wanted, so we will wait until Monday. I had to call the pharmacy because apparently the order I placed Monday didn’t go through.

riday, we had planned to go to Selma Railroad Days Festival since it would be quieter than on the weekend. I woke up still tired with a headache but I finished my library book. So I stayed home and let my daughter go with her dad. Apparently it was a really good time. They got banana splits with homemade ice cream for $5. I got to stay home with Lulu and I got book mail. I tried to catch up on things and regain some energy. I ended up staying up late after dinner to help my daughter edit her essay which is due tomorrow.
Saturday, I didn’t get up too early but finally felt rested. My task list is seriously long for today. I did some computer work, walked Lulu, mowed the lawn, helped my daughter with her paper, made chicken pot pie, made a new task list and put little lavender moth ball packets in all my yarn totes. Then I had time to peruse the 2-1 Audible sale that ends tomorrow.

I got this Audible Daily deal for $3.95.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Thank you Sophie! It felt like a step back with a bunch of things breaking and we weren’t working on the planned projects.
Those minor repair jobs always seem to end up needing to be done at the same time. We need to replace a few windows but the friend of a friend who was meant to be doing us a quote keeps not turning up. I guess we will have to get some companies to quote instead.
Hopefully, your sink is sorted quickly – last time ours wouldn’t drain it turned out that the pipes out of the property were blocked. Thankfully my husband and dad managed to clear them!
Thank you Louise. What is frustrating is that we had other repairs and updates planned and now the new broken things are going to the front of the line.
I hope your kitchen sink is fixed Monday, that’s a pain. Good idea about putting fake turf for Lulu indoors if the weathers too bad. I feel bad for Otis also when he has to go out to the yard in the rain etc. Enjoy your books this week, the ice cream looks delicious!
Thank you. I almost wished I had gone for the homemade ice cream but I got rid of the headache and felt better after resting. I think we’ll try the turf in the garage so if there’s an issue it’s on concrete not flooring.
I love that second blue photo, it must be from the aquarium? Don’t you hate when everything breaks/seems to go wrong at the same time? I always say things happen in threes😬
Thank you Tammy. Those are jellyfish at the Aquarium. I think we have at least 3 and I’m not excited about doing emergency repairs instead of planned repairs but at least I have help.

Thank you Emily. I like a lot of genres and tend to do better when I am not reading all the same one. I think it’s why I almost never go into a reading slump. Anyway, 2 of the 3 are finished now and I’m back to working the balance.
Thanks Bonnie. I didn’t have any ice cream since I stayed home but I needed the quiet and to catch up. I like to read all my holiday freebies, mostly contemporary romance for the RAT.

Yes Trin, I need my sleep these days. My daughter is completely turned around sleeping in the day and awake at night. It does give us each a quiet house to oneself while the other is sleeping. but when she wants me to review her work it means less sleep for one or both of us. I’m glad it’s finished and I think she did a great job.
Man, it really does hit you all at once that way. I had a similar week in September. Thankfully, you’ve got some plans in place to get it back on track. Bummer about the headache and missing the festival, but glad you’re feeling better and getting rest. Nice weather!

Thanks for my Lulu fix💜 I think it’s so sweet that you’re figuring out a rainy day solution for her business. My pooch hated the rain! And that banana split…I haven’t had one of those in over 20 years. Yum!
Too bad I didn’t wait on getting The Lies I Tell. So many of my friends loved the book I used a credit.

Thank you, Jonetta. Lulu is our best girl. She hates the rain and geez it was horrible so a solution was needed. Sorry about the credit; it’s just like that sometimes. I haven’t really found anything in the current 2-1 sale but that’s ok. I try hard now not to buy them if I can get them at the library or if they are only at Audible or long-time favorites. I missed the ice cream but was so glad to have a day at home by myself.
I read The Last Flight by Julie Clark and it was quite good so hope this one is for you as well. Hope you have a terrific week and find time to curl up with a good book.

It always seems like when one thing goes wrong they all do. ugh. Hope things start getting better quickly for you! I’ve wanted to put a deck out, or even just a roof over my concrete patio in the back. And then if it was rainy or snowy, I would not care if the dogs just did their business on the patio instead of in the grass where it was raining. But I can’t seem to afford with the way prices are. Oh well. Maybe someday. Hope your next week is better! I need to start that Shusterman series, I loved the Unwind series, but have yet to start this one.
Thanks Lisa. I think this turf will work great for Lulu in the garage. It’s attached to the house so that’s easy enough. I have only just started the Unwind series but I own them all. I like it so far also, obviously I bought them all. The Art of a Scythe series feels more adult but it’s classified as YA.
The HoHoHo readathon is fun and I’m hoping to participate this year. It’s gotten chilly here- fall is definitely in the air! I hope you’re having a relaxing weekend 🙂

A backed-up sink is the absolute worst! My daughter hasn’t asked me to proofread any papers for a while and I have to admit that I am not sad about it. I hope that you have a great week!
Oddly, I’ve never had a backed up sink until now. I don’t mind proofreading since she lives here (not in a dorm) and is doing online classes so she doesn’t have other people to take a look.

Thanks Tanya. That’s how it felt but when I look at the tasks to do and what was accomplished last week it wasn’t as bad as it felt. The clog did get cleared this afternoon so now it’s just the cleanup. It was an excellent week for freebies.
Urg! While you have clearly managed to get a lot done (congratulations on that, by the way!) it does sound that getting things moving has been like towing a mountain down a motorway… MASH by Angie Fox is great, if quirky, fun:). Here’s hoping that the coming week is far easier, Anne.

I should sign up for that read-a-thon, but I’ve already done some Christmas books because of the publishing date. I don’t know why they don’t publish those books in the correct season or just a little before. I’m not one who enjoyed the whole “Christmas in July” push they try and do. It’s too hot for all of that to me. Seems like the books would sell better in the correct season, but that’s just me I guess.
We will see if Lulu likes it. I hope so. I am 100% with you on the holiday books. I don’t read them until mid November or December even if I have the ARCs in October.

I cannot get over the squirrels destroying your furniture. I’ve always lived in areas with lots of squirrels and I’ve never seen that type of destruction before. I guess you’ll have to look for new cushions and keep them inside. I hope the warranty person came on Monday for you. I love the pig and tea mural – so cute.
My weekend was lovely – my son has been home since Friday evening. He’s doing great and has enjoyed being home for a bit. We celebrated his 19th birthday this weekend with family and friends. He also got to see most of his crew and his girlfriend. I take him back to the train station tomorrow morning. Then we’ll see him again at Thanksgiving.
Thank you Jen. Yes I am shocked about the squirrels too. I’ve had them eat stuff or dig in the garden. I am not sure what to do about the cushions.. we use the swing every day year round and my daughter is up at night and me in the day. The chairs, well it is part of them and the only option would be to take the chairs indoors because the cushions aren’t separate. We ended up using a local person because they were cheaper than the warranty person and the plumber the warranty assigned has lots of bad reviews. So it is fixed. I’m glad you were able to enjoy having your son home for a visit.

I tend to smash as much into a day as possible, learned through many years of experience developing systems to be most efficient and how to organize my tasks to get the most accomplished. But sometimes I just want to procrastinate. I’m very excited about Gleanings too! My impression is it will focus on some of the side characters from the series.
That copy cat book sounds like something I would wanna try 😉
