Sunday Post – 28 January 2024 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.   White Trash Zombie giveaway ends tonight!

Sunday,  well I started with new messages from FS Poster.  They had me emailing with a support manager and now they are referring me to a developer.  I have 4 accounts attached (but not Threads) and nothing works.  The 3 things I want to do are:  Auto-share my posts to social media, do a Revive Old Posts a couple times a day,  and do a direct share for something like a sale / deal.    I sent the update code to Ashley along with my exported settings file.

It’s another cold morning. I’ve finished off my Feedly feed. I packed up soup last night for the neighbors and I took one to Abby’s mom this noon.   Now I am on to more Sunday post visiting before the WTZ Chat.  We had the chat with some of my old favorite chatters and some exciting new people.  After, I worked on cooking a new batch of food for Lulu.  Marley’s mom came over and learned how I make her food and I gave her a quart of the chicken wild rice soup.

Monday,  same stuff new week.  Ashley loaded the new code for the FS Poster plugin.  Now there are logs and they all show as Not Sent.  I’m moody about the books I’m reading.  I set up some upcoming posts.  I reviewed free email accounts for your domain name, and new mail subscription software. My daughter and I walked Lulu.  I finally did a menu plan for this week.

Tuesday,  Ashley helped load the DNS info so I could get an email that is at my domain name.  It’s setup to send and now I just have to get so it can receive.  I walked Abby and Lulu even though it was sprinkling a bit of rain.  My neighbor was home and still not feeling well.  I went to Aldi and Trader Joes and then to Papa Murphy’s for pizzas.

Wednesday, I awakened to the sound of the DitchWitch and the Google Fiber people making trenches in my yard.  Lulu and I went out to talk to him.   We will see how this goes.  I tried something else to update the DNS info for the next step in email management.   The weather is nice, humid and warm. I took my daughter to a chiro and then we stopped in at the Asian store.

Thursday,  another warm, cloudy and humid day, which was very pleasant for walking.  After the walk, I went to Costco for a few items and then Harris Teeter.  I got the email working, so now I have a sending email @booksofmyheart.net.   Then I needed to get it setup in Mailpoet.   This did not go as well.

Friday,  I started working on the Mailpoet issues right away,  found another tip online, and got it working! I visited blogs. Lulu and I took a bit longer walk so we could see the swans. Very nice weather, no rain as has been predicted the last 3 days.  I went down the rabbit hole on some research.

Saturday, the post emails haven’t been working and I figured out I have to update the settings on each email form.  So I did.  I spent some time doing research and did not get my reviews written.  Another nice day with the rain not yet, so Lulu and I walked the longer route again and saw the swans.  This week was lots of time on emails and auto-share and blog setup stuff.

My post emails still don’t seem to be working.  Hopefully I can figure that out.  Otherwise you can follow on WordPress or Feedly for now.

How do I do it?

I’m not even to the point of having FS Poster working in any way whatsoever and I’m facing a new challenge.  Apparently there will be an issue in February with sending emails from a Gmail account and they will be classified as spam.   I am going to try some things including I may have to pay for a new email account. (Update: No I was able to setup with a free account on Zoho Mail)

But I’m also going to look at a new email provider for the blogs.  I’m interested in hearing if anyone has experience with MailerLite or Sender.  Also, do you have other suggestions.  I currently use Mailpoet.   Tell me what you use to email your blog subscribers or do you only use WordPress?

MailerLite allows 1000 subscribers and up to 12,000 emails a month.  However if I had 1000 subscribers,  that would mean I could only email notifications for 12 posts.    I’m not anywhere close to that limit but it seems like not worth making the switch if I have Mailpoet working and it allows up to 2000 subscribers and 5,000 emails.  If I get to 1000 subscribers, emails will be a problem with a free plan.  I haven’t looked at Sender yet: I think it is unlimited emails.

If you have any tips for me, please comment.

February is the next Series in a Month #SIAM  for COYER

I’ve decided to use my KU subscription and read the 4 books in the Callahan & McLane series by Kendra Elliot.

    • Vanished
    • Bridged
    • Spiraled
    • Targeted

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My sincere thanks to PICT Tours, Grand Central Publishing,  Macmillian Audio,  Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I finally got around to selecting my January First Reads.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. I hate having blog issues and I don’t bother with automatic send outs. I just don’t care enough to figure it out, lol. I have Follow.it for email subscription, but I honestly have no idea what their limit is for subscriptions before it stops being free. I’m sure I’m nowhere close.

Your walk out by the swans looks very pretty. I just saw the audio of The Boy Who Cried Bear up on Netgalley. I have the e-ARC already, but I’ll request the audio since that’s the way I prefer to “read” the series. I already pre-ordered a hardcopy for my shelves since it’s one of my favorite series. I’ll look up that David Baldacci.

  2. So I never mentioned it but your post emails have been going into my spam folder for quite a while. No matter how many times I tell it “not spam” it’s not learning. I did receive a couple of spammed post emails this week, so I’m still getting them, I just have to go searching. Sorry you’re having so many issues, good luck working them out.

  3. I used to use MailChimp but it’s been a while since I logged in and I’m pretty sure they’ve changed some of their policies since the last time I used it. I haven’t kept up with any of that lately so I’m not much help. I hope you manage to figure it out soon! Enjoy your new books!

  4. I don’t have the energy to set up any of the automatic posting. It just takes a minute to do it manually. I am amazed by how much grocery shopping you do every week. I can barely get to a single store during any given week…lol. They dug up our neighborhood for fiber last year and tore up the flower bed area around my mailbox. I don’t think many people in my neighborhood were happy and not many have signed up for the service. I hope that you have a wonderful week!

    • yes I’ve been researching and fiddling with auto-sharing and my email program. Somehow I don’ want to have to do it manually because it wouldn’t be at the same time every day like the computer auto-shares can be. I combine my grocery pickups with med appts or other errands. Some GF items are only available at certain stores so I get them when I am near. Like Monday while my daughter has an eye appt, I’ll pickup only 2-4 items, mostly we are out of milk. yes Google Fiber ravaged our lawns too. But their prices and service are very good.

  5. It is SO frustrating when you have blog issues. I am one to panic, so I just use WordPress for mail now. I hope you get it figured out, Anne.

  6. Jan

I hate blog issues as well and when you not sure how to fix it that kind of annoying to. Hope it all works out for you that way you can spend more time reading.

  7. I am sorry for all the blog problems! I used to send a newsletter when I began but I have abandoned the idea with GDPR…

  8. Sorry you’re having trouble with your newsletter/email subscriptions. It’s always a pain to have to figure it out. I follow people via Feedly anyway because I like having everyone in the same place rather than spread out emails. Have a good week!

  9. The fiber people did tha there last summer, they dug EVERYTHING up. Al summer. Good grief. We had a hole in our yard, flags everywhere, equipment in the street and people’s yards.

  10. I don’t do auto posting, just manually put it all up where I want it. I use Mailpoet and apart from some issues with my subscriber list, I like them and will stay with them. I used Mailchimp when I first started, but their free options are becoming very limiting and it just wasn’t working for me anymore. Then I signed up for MailerLite, but if I want to send out an automated newsletter every week with an RSS feed of the new posts on the blog, then I have to pay for the service. I found that out after a free trial period.

  11. Goodness, I’m sorry to hear about all your tech troubles. If you can’t get Mailpoet working, you can use a mailing list service and zaps from Zapier to have it send your posts. Or maybe there’s something from Jetpack? Anyway, it looks like it was a busy week otherwise!

    • Thank you. With Mailpoet it is the DNS modifications which won’t work. For the time being, I went to FollowIt which has no restrictions on number of followers or emails as it is an RSS reader really. I don’t know yet if I will like it. But I do need newsletter capabilities occasionally so I may have to figure it out or try out Mailer Lite. I hadn’t considered Zapier although I did look at it once but ended up with dlvr.it and Buffer for that purpose.

  12. Email and website stuff can be so tough to figure out. I hope you can get it all working soon! Sounds like you had a full week and lots of walks with Lulu :). I hope you’ll enjoy that Laura Greenwood book, I read the first book in that series and enjoyed, but haven’t read that one yet even though I have a copy.

  13. I love your commitment to making your blog and outreach work. I no longer have this commitment, so if something breaks, I don’t know how long I’ll keep blogging. My blog turned 14 last Sunday and I completely forgot until the next day when I was looking at my calendar. I kept putting off blogging, answering emails, and visiting other blogs all week. I’m losing my passion for it. *sad face* I DID finish the second WTZ book – wow, what a ride this series is so far!!

    • Everyone has cycles. You have to choose what works for you and do what you enjoy. I’m a constant improver of my organizations, systems, etc. What works for me doesn’t always work for others.

I’m so glad you are still enjoying reading though and I really hope you will be able to do the Read-along with us other times too because it is fun to have your thoughts on the books. I’m reading the next WTZ next week.
