The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar. On the Edge giveaway ends tonight!
Sunday, I am so far behind on stuff. I did get the menu planned yesterday. I hope I can stay home mostly and catch up because it will be freezing for the highs. The chat was fun to start the new Read-along. It’s always so interesting to get different impressions and ideas I didn’t have. We ended a little late, and so I went to take Lulu for a walk before dark. We got not quite to the corner and it was starting to rain. About halfway back, we started running because it was really coming down. I finally got to the Sunday post visiting, but I have more catchup to do tomorrow.
Monday, with the holiday I thought I would get lots accomplished. I did a little computer stuff but then I cleaned up the laundry room for the dryer repair to happen. The guy was on time, professional, knowledgeable. It would have cost what I expected but I got a dryer vent cleaning which I was shocked to learn added $200! He was here an hour and 15 minutes and about 20 minutes for the cleaning which the total was $500. If I had known it was so much I wouldn’t get the vent cleaning because apparently it was quite clean already. But the dryer is working. We walked Lulu.
Tuesday, I worked on getting the audio CD I got at the library into itunes so I could put it on my phone to listen. I tried a bunch of things which mostly didn’t work. Then my daughter and I went to see her neurologist. It was more of a checkup because the current med is working. He gave us more samples in case there is a lag in filling or shortage. Then we picked up a pizza and a Walmart curbside. I ended up putting each CD in its own “audiobook” since if I put them together they shuffle out of order. I used to upload CDs all the time but I haven’t done it for awhile. It started snowing after dinner. Lulu is not amused.
Wednesday, lots of snow but with sunshine it doesn’t feel as cold as it is. I swept the back stairs for Lulu to go out. I have so many things to do but so unfocused I’m making a mess of it. I need to stop jumping around my tasks as I think of something and focus on each one to completion. I did make good progress on things today so I feel better. I wrote a review, set up some more reviews. I forgot to eat lunch. I had numerous dinner plans that I couldn’t execute well so we had leftovers I had planned for lunch. We did stay up a bit late watching Shetland. Then I read a bit.
Thursday, still cold but it changes to a south wind and gets warmer from today. I set up more review posts for new ARCs, called to get an oil change appt for the car. We walked with the neighbor and Abbey and Lulu. My daughter and I signed up for a class at the extension service for seed starting and transplants for Feb 5th.
Friday, starting to warm up, but still below average temps for this month. Next week should be 20 degrees higher, into the 60sF / 17-20C. I texted my neighbor farm to order my composted soil blend for the raised beds. The week after looks rainy but it means a slog next week. I’m really enjoying the lack of most social media. I’m mostly looking at Bluesky and Discord. I can tell in FS Poster if my shares went to other social media. I ran an errand to return stuff at Home Depot and then pick up a few things at Target.
Saturday, it’s warming up already. I wrote 2 more reviews. My daughter needed some help getting the printer to work with her computer. She’s working a bit ahead on homework. This week our Britbox deal ends, but we have Acorn for the next month. Lulu loves the TV and couch time.
So many horrible things and unqualified people and it’s not even a full week.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My grateful thanks to Recorded Books, Penguin Audio (2), Minotaur Books
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I purchased these deals at Chirp in 2 series I am collecting.
I got these for the 2 first reads for being a Prime member.
I purchased these sale items at Chirp. The Jodi Taylor one was $4 and the Martha Grimes were $5 each.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
Chirp Friday freebies:
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

It was a week, right? I’m trying my best to avoid politics on social media, but it’s everywhere, unfortunately. We got snow last night and it’s supposed to snow on and off all day, but so far it’s barely an inch. Lulu looks adorable!
Thank you Tammy. I’m so glad we are warming up now.
Adorable pics of Lulu as always! Glad the read-along is going well! Maybe I’ll take a look into some series I’ve wanted to read that are along the same lines and recommend them for next year and join in again! My last week was so busy I didn’t really feel like I got much done, at least not with blogging. Oh well, here’s to one more week of January!
Thank you Lisa. Every week is dragging right now. You might want to try the first Innkeeper book since it’s much newer in the later part of the Read-along starting in May.
Yeah, social media is rough right now with politics being awful. I like that the TikTok algorithm works so well, because I have now curated pretty much only books and cute animals. Lulu’s looking cute as always.
Thanks Samantha. I find that I get mostly my followers so mostly Book people even on the worst sites. Except Facebook. That is just all ads and never shows me the pages I want of friends and things I follow. I had already move to just searching there instead of looking at any feed. I just don’t go there very often these days. Lulu is our best girl.
Glad you’re warming up, but I know your temperature swings tend to be a bit bonkers! I hope you enjoy Smallhope & Pennyroyal as much as I did – it so very nearly made my outstanding reads of last year. And I hope the coming week is a good one, Anne:).
Thank you Sarah. I’m excited for the warmer weather and more garden plans! I love Jodi Taylor and have added it to my Sunday series list. But boy they are getting thin at the library now which is why I have been buying them. They used to be there and now there are hardly any of the series.
500 to clean the vent? OMG! It’s nearly a new dryer here!
No $200 to clean the vent $300 for the repair. But 500 is near a new dryer here also.
I really need to start on the Rebecca Yarros series! I’ve been meaning to forever.
They are compelling but they are loooooong. It goes quickly though. Each ending is sort of a cliffhanger so it’s easy to pick up the next one.
Oops, pressed post before I was done! Hope you enjoy the new Rebecca Yarros. Is the new Deanna Raybourn a second book in her latest series?
yes! the Deanna Raybourn is #2 in the series of old female assassins.
Lulu is cute as usual. That is a lot for a dryer repair.
Lulu is our favorite photo subject. She sleeps through it sometimes. lol
Too much cuteness with sweet Lulu and your great nephew💜
I’ve never seen so much excitement for a book as I have for Onyx Storm! Hope you enjoy. Have a great reading week, Anne.
Thank you. That picture of Jay is just so cute I can hardly stand it. Those pink cheeks. I think Fourth Wing had quite the flurry too.
Kills Well with Others looks amusing 🙂 I think I’ve read some other books by Sonali Dev in your Book Buys section. Hope the weather gets nicer – I’m tired of the cold too!!
Thanks Becki. I am hoping for the warm up to continue. It is warmer but I still feel pretty cold. Sonali Dev is extremely amusing in person and really nice. I just love her ( as a person).
Sorry for the expensive dryer repair – especially since some of it was unnecessary!
Thanks. It’s my own fault for not asking for a price first. I would have been fine with just the repair.
I’m trying to cut back on social media. I do look at Bluesky…sometimes Facebook and Threads, but I try not to be there too often. I just want to get away from all the politics, but it keeps popping up.
I hope you enjoy all of your books. Have a great week!
I’ve been doing well with just Bluesky and Discord. I took some of the others off my phone which helps.
I hate unexpected expenses and it seems like everything is very expensive these days. I’m glad to hear your daughter’s meds are working. Have a great week Anne.
Thank you Jodie. Well I win some and I lose some. As much as I wish, I don’t know or remember everything when I need the info. I’m thrilled to seeing my daughter have some more normal days.
I’ve been thinking of going to Bluesky now that I’m back blogging. I considered it once but then drifted away. Glad your temps are improving. It’s been s ocold here but I guess it’s warmer now.
Shetland! I think I’m behind on that show, was watching it a few years ago. I need to catch up!
Your last sentence– soooo true
Thank you Greg. I’d love to see you on Bluesky. I post to the others but mostly don’t interact on them. Glad to have you back.
I was in awe of all the lowland southern state areas that got snow this week. Glad you got so much done this week in spite of the weather and your unsettled feeling. How neat that the readalong went great for the first one and you got some great perspectives from others.
Have a great week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia. The Read-along has had a lot of improvements over the last few years and they seem to be working.
There are just like 10 series I would like to do each year which isn’t realistic at all. We don’t get much winter but I’m tired of it. At least I get to wear all my Minnesota clothes.
Your temps sound unusually low for you this time of year. I thought our temps were higher than normal for us, but they’re lower apparently. It feels colder because of the wind, too. I finally got a Bluesky account, as you know! I forgot to list it on my Sunday Post. I’m just winging it with the seedlings here, but a class probably would be helpful, lol! Sounds fun to me. I’ve been reading all the instructions and tips on the Burpee site. They give you recommendations based off your zip code on each individual plant/seed. I spent a long time writing things down and figuring out dates to plant and whether to start indoor or directly outdoors. I look forward to hearing how the class is. Yes, the chat was fun. I need to look up the next date because I’ll be gone over Presidents Weekend so if it’s then I won’t be able to go.
Thank you Rachel. No it is NOT President’s Day weekend because I was also avoiding Valentine’s Day. February can be tough. Our temperatures are the most extreme here both hot and cold since I moved here 10 years ago. Our normal winter temps in Dec/Jan are 50 high/30 low. We were having a lot of 30 for highs this past month. But this week we will have some 60s. We still don’t have the huge range of temps like MN. I’m ready to be gardening and have been reading a bit on the NC extension site.
Did I miss who that cutie is in your post? Such rosy cheeks!
The week was awful as far as news, but I mostly stayed off. I did write two emails each to my senators and congressman today. I feel like I will be doing that a lot this year. I also took the day yesterday (Saturday) and just read. It was good for my soul.
Good for you. I’m glad you are making your voice heard. He’s my great nephew Jay who lives in Colorado. His face shape is so like my brother and my niece (his Mom) at that age. yes so cute.
I’ve added Kills Well With Others to my wishlist, thanks, though I still need to read the first one. Is your ex still there – should he be worried given the other title?? LOL
I hope the weather warms soon!
Wishing you a great reading week
Thank you Shelleyrae. No my ex left Jan 17. He did a pretty good job of finishing things up and teaching me how to do some things myself. It’s getting warmer this week 50/60F 10/15C for highs which is much warmer, but I still feel cold. I’m tired and watching more tv than normal so I’m more moody about my reading. Sigh.
Aw Lulu! Glad the dryer is fixed. It’s amazing how much they charge for seemingly simple things and maintenance. I went to get my oil changed recently and I needed new wipers, they tried charging me like $30.00 per each wiper! And they would charge an added fee to install them 😀 No thanks I’ll do it myself for less than half that price lol.
Enjoy your books this week, I have seen Onyx Storm everywhere.
Lulu is my guiding light! She has the right idea with the napping. Everything I can do myself or be knowledgeable so I don’t get charged too much or for the wrong things helps.
Have a great week.
Thank you Angela. I hope you have a great week. I want to get through the ordinary so I can do some things which are actual progress.
It sounds like you had a busy week. I am glad you were able to get the dryer fixed. Our garbage disposal has been out since just after Christmas and I’m thinking I may need to call someone out. My husband wants to try to fix it first so I’m waiting until he either does or I get tired of waiting and make the call. LOL It’s not urgent at least. I’m looking forward to Deanna Raybourn’s new book. I enjoyed the first in that series. I hope you have a good week and are able to stay warm!
It’s warming up. I know sometimes I try to fix things because it can save money. Lots of people don’t even have garbage disposals.
It was in single digits here in Michigan for daysssss
I lived in Minnesota for 35 years. I kept my Minnesota clothes even though I have been in NC for 10 years now.
Sounds like it’s been a full and busy week for you, with lots of ups and downs! Hopefully, the warmer weather ahead makes everything feel a little lighter! Looks like you have plenty of good books when you need to escape from reality. Have a great week!
Thank you Carla. I do have plenty of good things to read. I have been taking in tv on Britbox though so my reading is lower than normal right now.
I am glad your daughter’s meds are working. That has to be a relief. My boys were definitely not a fan of the cold temps we have. Their little pigskin furs do not keep them very warm. And Zekey, bless his heart, does not know how to hurry up on potty breaks. Wow $500.00 seems like a killing for an hour and 15 minutes. I am finally becoming more active on Bluesky and am enjoying using it. Glad I switched. I still post my book review notices to Twitter but I don’t read any other content on there anymore. Hope you guys have a great week!
Thanks Barb. Same as you I post to other social media but look at Bluesky. Well there were some parts involved but still I wish I hadn’t done the vent cleaning.
