IT STARTED WITH A CUP…
Isabella Shay is usually a very honest person.
But when she’s running late for her first day at a dream job and the barista yells for “Amy” 3x with no answer, she does the unthinkable.
Izzy takes that PSL.
It’s the exact drink she ordered and paid for, only waaaay further ahead in the line, so she mutters “I’m Amy” and grabs the cup.
But when she turns around and runs directly into the most attractive man she’s ever seen, spilling the drink all over his GQ shirt and tie, she ends up having the ultimate meet-cute. Sparks fly and things feel beyond promising until he says the words, “See you tomorrow, Amy.”
Uh, oh – she’ll definitely have to straighten him out the following day.
Only when she gets to her new office and meets the VP of her department, it is none other than Blake Phillips - the hottie from Starbucks. And the man might’ve been charming to “Amy,” but he is an arrogant grump to Izzy, an arrogant grump who dos not find her explanation funny at all.
Lynn Painter is the absolute master at banter. I would enjoy her books just for the humor. The dialogue is generally a bit blunt and sassy. The characters go a bit wildly silly and add in pop culture sometimes in some of the banter and it’s just fun. It’s meant to be a bit outrageous.
The blurb gives up the meet cute between Izzy starting her new job and her boss, Blake. My understanding is this story was originally featured on the author’s blog or something as a serial? It was published and in various formats in 2022. I was going to listen to the audio but apparently this 2025 version of Accidentally Amy has been updated in the Ebook version. I’m not sure about any other version.
Amy and Chest are instantly attracted to one another. But Izzy is in Blake’s department so dating would be a no-no. So they become friends. There is a lot of texting (NOT sexting) and they get to know each other. It gets harder and harder for them to keep things at friends only. AT least they don’t work directly together.
The slow burn of their romance is wonderful. I love the way they tease and support each other in their flow of texts. It’s an easy read and doesn’t feel as clunky as a text stream might. The way they finally get together is a rush and exciting and heartbreaking. Don’t worry – it’s an HEA. They work through the problems pretty quickly.

Lovely review. This would be a fun break from the normal books I read😁
Choose anything by Lynn Painter for the prime banter.
Excellent review, Anne💜 I’ve so may of her books on my shelf. One of these days…
Thank you Jonetta. She’s so much fun.
Just reading the premise of this one made me smile. I can’t wait to check it out. I need a good laugh. 😀
Painter’s books are the best at making me laugh. They do seem a bit outrageous sometimes.
I need to try this author again. The one book I read by her was a miss for me.
I’m sorry to hear that. I haven’t read her YA only her adult books. They are OUT there but hilarious.
This is the third positive review I’ve read. I’ll need to keep an eye out for this author.
I really enjoy her humor but her characters are a bit out of line sometimes. It’s blunt but refreshing.
I haven’t read any of this author’s books, but this one sounds fun. I already read a positive review for it earlier this week and it sounds like a good book. I like how you describe their banter and slow burn romance, adding this one to my to-read list and will make sure to get the ecopy instead of audio.
I hope you really enjoy it Lola.
I like slow burn romance and witty banter so I think I’d enjoy this one too.
She’s pretty hilarious. It’s not very realistic but it is fun.
I enjoyed the last Lynn Painter book I read and I remember the banter being especially good. I look forward to reading this one!
I really enjoy her books. There is something blunt and fresh about her wording.
Awwww I like the sounds of this one. 🙂
It’s the banter that is so fun.
Great review! This one is on my list. Looks like a fun, light read.
Well even with the humorous style the book handles some real personal issues for the characters.
Agreed! This one was a lot of fun!
I never seem to tire of her writing.
