T. Phipps!

If you follow my reviews, you know I’m a huge fan of C.T. Phipps. His stories are always a ton of fun—sometimes a bit silly, but in the best way possible. I love escaping into his worlds, where action, humor, and ridiculousness blend perfectly.

Moon City Vice continues the adventures of Neil Gordon, former actress-turned-cop Lucy Westenra, and the ever-entertaining, sentient toy robot corgi, Charles Barksley. This series is a wild mix of comedy and cop thriller, with just enough real-world elements to keep things grounded—this time, pulling us back to the peak of COVID with a pandemic woven into the story.

As always, Phipps delivers a fast-paced ride packed with pop culture references, snarky dialogue, and quirky characters—both returning favorites and some fresh faces. This book leans a little more serious than the first, but it still maintains that signature fun, over-the-top energy that makes his stories so addictive. Whether it’s the absurdity of crime-fighting on the moon or the nonstop witty banter, it’s an absolute blast from start to finish.

If you’re looking for an entertaining escape with action, humor, and a side of sci-fi shenanigans, this is definitely worth picking up.

Narration:

Alex Freeman is a blast with this story, bringing each character to life with distinct voices and spot-on delivery. His portrayal of Barksley, the talking corgi, is especially fun, and he nails the balance between humor and the darker moments. The pacing is great, and he delivers the snark and pop culture references effortlessly. I’ve only listened to him in this series, but I’d gladly pick up more of his work.
