I have enjoyed everything I have read from C.L. Polk. There are often diverse characters and a romance. The goals of the characters are often inspirational. In The Feywild Job, the characters are not so favorable, they are con artists. Saeldian is a con artist with a current partner Julie whose family has a big […]
At first I thought perhaps I was not smart enough to understand this story. I have wanted to read this author for awhile. After I got into the characters and plot though, I was fine. It is detailed with quite a few characters and groups so I need to focus more and multitask less. In […]
Allison Brennan seems to be writing about one standalone thriller each year, in addition to new installments in two of her current series. Whisper Creek is a standalone. I really liked the characters right away. They are good, hard-working people dealing with life every day as happens on a farm. But the bad guys were […]
A dual timeline narrative along with the concept of reincarnation build the foundation for The Girl in the Lake, the first book of the new mystery series Dept of Unexplained Phenomenon. Join Kate Willis, psychologist, consultant and skeptic on her journey to deal with a secret from her past in the form a little girl […]
Perfect Vengeance isn’t what I expected. It doesn’t have any K9 characters! It is still based somewhat on Federal law enforcement, the FBI. Gina and her friends are robbing from drug mobsters to pay for domestic violence victims to start new lives. Gina lost her father to this mob family when she was a teen […]
Catch and Kill is the first book in the Neon Meridian, a new series set in the same world as Schaefer’s Harmony Black and Daniel Faust series. A little more on the cyberpunk side of urban fantasy Catch and Kill is set in a world aware of the magic in it. Having witches, demons and […]
Books about assassins can be interesting especially when they go after bad guys. There are some who know all about their target, the mission and why they need to die. Then there are those who know nothing except who to kill. Nadia has been an assassin most of her life. She also happens to be […]
The National Park Mystery series continues to improve as it goes along. I still enjoy the park settings, the mysteries, the archeology and the family growth and character development. These last two installments also have timely topics which are very relevant. Chuck and Janelle and the two daughters, Carmelita and Rosie, are much more of […]
I have not read Gillian French previously. Perhaps because more of her work is in the Young Adult genre and this is an Adult offering. The main character here is Shaw Connelly who is a fingerprint and evidence technician for the police. She is very experienced and is training a new officer. Shaw’s older sister […]
I am always thrilled to have more in the DC Smith series. I don’t suppose one would have to read them in order but there is a lot of history, personal growth, and world building one would miss. Some Sort of Justice, in particular, it would be important to read The Late Lord Thorpe first, as […]
