Jackson “The Beast” Boudreaux is rich, gorgeous, and unbelievably rude to the staff at Chef Bianca Hardwick’s New Orleans restaurant. Bianca would sooner douse herself in hot sauce than cook for Jackson again, but when he asks her to cater his fund-raiser, Bianca can’t refuse, knowing the cash will help pay her mother’s medical bills. Then Jackson makes another outrageous request: Marry me. The unconventional offer includes an enormous sum—money Bianca desperately needs, even if it does come with a contract—and a stunning ring.
The heir to a family bourbon dynasty, Jackson knows the rumors swirling around him. The truth is even darker. Still, he needs a wife to secure his inheritance, and free-spirited, sassy Bianca would play the part beautifully. Soon, though, their simple business deal evolves into an emotional intimacy he’s built walls to avoid.
As the passion heats up between them, Bianca and Jackson struggle to define which feelings are real and which are for show. Is falling for your fake fiancé the best happy ending…or a recipe for disaster?
Burn for You is the third book I have read by this author and she is moving into an auto-read, favorite author for me. Geissinger creates strong, relatable characters. They are realistic enough to have some quirks and even those briefly on page feel developed. The dialogue is smart and funny. She makes me feel, laugh and care. The heat level is high; these are hot and sexy.
I love Bianca. She is so compassionate, hard-working and talented. She is also a pistol (fiesty). Her friends and family are close-knit. She is a chef with her own restaurant which I also love. On the surface, her suitors are a bit cliche. But there is more than meets the eye.
Jackson is rich and starts as the stereotypical, demanding alpha male. His actions speak louder than words, conveying the guy behind the persona. I also love when there is an ex-fiance who wants the lady back. Since he is usually a scum bag I find it hilarious to watch him get kicked to the curb repeatedly. It’s NOT a love triangle because he has NO chance. And it gives so many opportunities for sassy, funny dialogue.
There are some crazy, rich people aspects to the story; I accept that since this is fiction. I read on the author website, the Slow Burn series are loosely based on classic fairy tales, this first of three being a Beauty and the Beast tale. But overall, it is fun and sexy. Highly recommended and since it is the first in the series, I’m looking forward to the next two books scheduled for 2018!
