The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday was like most days.  I did sleep some in the morning because the coughing kept me up later. (It wasn’t the great book I was reading, no)  I gained about 20 pounds this year with COVID stress but I’ve lost 10lbs. these last couple weeks on the not hungry, coughing for hours plan.  I did get all caught up on Feedly and did some Sunday post visiting.

Monday was the usual other than a chiro appt.  Tuesday, was the worst morning for pain.  So I took some ibuprofen and went back to sleep for 2 hours and then it was ok. I got my usual computer stuff done and even managed to resew the elastic on the masks where it was too long finally.   I made Lulu fresh food with chicken thighs – her favorite. I went to bed at a reasonable time and didn’t cough.  I read part of a new ARC then switched to a library book.

Wednesday morning was better.  My daughter didn’t sleep at all overnight, busy with school stuff. I put together a final Walmart order on the free trial of delivery.  I got two Amazon returns set up. It’s extremely rare for me to have any returns. My daughter stayed up long enough to eat dinner with me.  I managed a second trip upstairs so I got a little more work finished.

Thursday, was busy with the Walmart delivery, and dropping Amazon returns at UPS, chiro appt and pharmacy pickup.   Also,  my Mom moved to a care home in Florida today (from Iowa).  She had COVID without symptoms in November and she’s had her first vaccine shot.  She’s only about 5 miles from my brother now. With only 6 residents, I hope she likes it and it feels more like a home.  She will be the oldest resident at 93. I started my buddy read with Lenore and finished another library book.

Friday, while waiting for the ibuprofen to kick in I finished the buddy read book.  Then I got the dishwasher going, the washer ready and another pan of chicken thighs baking for Lulu food.  I’d love to do cleaning and take down the Christmas lights outside and the Christmas tree but I’m not able to do those things yet.  Since my daughter doesn’t like the gluten-free Girl Scout cookies, I didn’t get any.  But I decided to make some chocolate chip cookies which turned out very well. My daughter didn’t get up until 9:30pm when I was starting to get ready for bed.

Saturday, I woke up fairly early. I did some chores. It’s been 4 weeks and while the pain is mostly less, it still can be intense if I move wrong. I did a variety of computer work and blog posts.  I’m thrilled to be over the cold. I updated some of the challenge links for my January reads.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer,  and Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I bought Raven Cursed on sale (already own the audio version).  I couldn’t resist the Audible daily deal.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Iza

I’m sorry you had to live with such pain, but I’m glad your mother is closer to your brother’s home and that she’s got her vaccine. She must be warmer too, isn’t Iowa a lot colder than Florida ? You were very active this week, I feel like a slug compared to you ! I hope next week is better and that the pain will diminish (it started snowing out there as I was typing)

    • Yes Florida is much warmer than Iowa. Iowa has plenty of snow and Florida rarely has it. But best is that she is close to one of us. I feel like a slug with just 3 positions all day. BUT I figured out a hip stretch this morning which improved that first in the morning pain.

    • Thanks Samantha. It is a long time and I was getting pretty depressed about it when I had the cold also. But with the cold and coughing ended, I’m feeling better. I found a hip stretch this morning which seems to be helping a lot.

    • Thanks Carole. I am glad to be improving both because I am over the cold / coughing and finding better ways to deal with the pain. I’m still limiting my movements but I found a hip stretch this morning which helped a lot. It should make getting up in the morning much easier. I see there is a new 2-1 sale at Audible to check out.

  2. Knowing you’re living with pain makes me wish I could wave a magic healing wand in your direction, Anne. You are amazing the way you keep going and still getting so much done. Glad there was a little relief with the cold gone and less full on pain moments. I used to be a night owl and slept during the day so I could actually see my husband on his afternoons shifts since I could flex my hours and work later in the day when I went part-time. You and your daughter on opposite sleeps reminded me of that. 🙂 Yay for getting some library and COYER buddy reading done.

    Have a good week, Anne!

    • Thank you Sophia! I did find a new hip stretch this morning which seems to be helping a lot. And I’m thrilled to be done with the cold and coughing. I have to stop devouring K9 library books and get to my ARCs and buddy reads this week.

  3. You are amazing how you keep going even with the pain and coughing. I’d be like nope not going to do anything. Great book haul this week. I love Anna Hackett’s books. The Eon series is loads of fun. Take it easy and happy reading.

    • Thank you Angela! I certainly have my moments. I basically keep the same 3 things every day. Morning in bed reading and doing what I can on my phone, afternoon in the office on the computer, evening back to the kitchen and bed again. Minimizing movements to allow me to heal. But I did find a hip stretch this morning which helped a LOT. So getting up in the morning may be easier. Now if I can just do the stairs more easily. Oh and the cough/cold is over which is great!

  4. Really glad you’re over that cold! It’s bad enough to be in pain.

That’s GREAT news about your mother! Being closer to relatives has to give both you and your brother peace of mind. I hope she’s happier.

I see we both picked up that freebie from Roxanne St. Claire! I had planned to buy it earlier and forgot. Paid off.

Have a great week, Anne, hopefully with diminished pain?

    • Thanks Jonetta! I am so glad to be over the cough/cold. I found a hip stretch really reduced the pain this morning . Now if I can find a way to make the stairs easier. I hope Mom likes it better also. It’s more like a home with just 6 people and my brother will be able to see her more often, and check on things.

I love those Dogfather / Dogmother books! I own some of them. The Dogfather ones are in KU now and also at one of my libraries so I should get on reading them.

  5. Bummer you’re not feeling well. I put on 10lbs with Covid stress but I’ve lost about 5 of them. Still trying to lose the rest. Sorry to hear you’re losing the weight from not feeling well, though.

I enjoyed Bayou Moon by audio a while back. The Business of Blood was good, too. Looking forward to the next in the series. Happy reading and feel better, Anne!

    • Well Rachel, the cough/cold is over yay. I found a hip stretch this morning which really helped with the pain getting up. Now to find a way to make the stairs easier. They weren’t a problem the first few weeks. So things are improving.

I’ve read all the Edge books by Ilona Andrews. I’m just rereading them on audio now. It’s been 8-10 years (?) so it’s time for a refresh. Thank you.

  6. I am glad you’ve found a hip stretch to help relieve the pain – and delighted to hear you’ve recovered from the cold. You must be so glad that your mother is now near your brother and in a place with so few people, which must feel a lot more like home. I hope the coming week sees you finally on top of the back pain, Anne.

  7. Sorry to read that you’ve been in pain this week. I hope you have a good upcoming week with no/low pain and no stress. Glad to hear your mother got her first Covid shot. I’m hoping to hear about more and more people getting it – that will be very good news!

  8. I see from some of the comments that the pain is easing, as is the cough. I’m glad to hear it. I’m a little concerned about the cough, though — did you get checked for COVID? (I mean, I know not everything is Covid, but it seems like it should be harder to catch a cold with all the masking and distancing. And I’ve had other friends get it, so I worry about anyone who gets sick.)

With my choruses closed down due to Covid, I missed out on Girl Scout cookies, so when we put our Walmart order in, I ordered some copycat cookies — the ones like Samoas. They won’t be quite the same, but better than nothing! 😀

    • No I didn’t get checked for COVID as I had no fever, no difficulty breathing and I had my sense of taste and smell. I had a sore throat which went into a stuffy nose. My daughter had it right before me. yes I am finding some ways to reduce the pain but I still would like to have more normal movements.

  9. I am sorry you have been in pain and under the weather. I hate coughs, especially at night when it disrupts sleep. I hope you are feeling better. Bayou Moon! I need to read that. I hope you enjoy all your new books, Anne, and feel better soon. Have a great week!

  10. Back pain is such an instant reminder of how we use our back muscles for almost every single movement. Amazing what we take for granted every day – walking, bending stretching, lifting – until it hurts to do those things. I sure hope more relief is to come. I hope your mom is getting settled in well at the new place. How nice that she’s so close to your brother. Great that he’ll be able to check in on her.

    • yes it is shocking how many movements I have to avoid. I really stick to 3 places all day with some standing in between. But I’ve found some ways to reduce the pain.

I hope my Mom likes the new place. It seems like a good solution but she can be contrary.

  11. I’m so sorry to hear about the coughing and the lack of sleep. Coughing is so exhausting and can just make pretty much anything worse. I hope the pain is getting better and the chiropractor helps. I’m glad your mom is getting settled in her home and she’s had the Covid vaccine and how wonderful your brother is near her. Hope you have a great week!

Oh Anne, I’m sorry you are still dealing with your pain and coughing. I continue to send get-well-soon vibes your way. I’m glad your mom is getting settled and will be close to family. Hopefully she will find a home there.

I’ve actually been reading a bit more than I did during the majority of 2020. I am currently reading ARCS for February because I have several of them and I don’t want to fall behind. I just finished First Comes Like by Alisha Rai and really enjoyed it.

    • Well at least the coughing and cold is over. But I wish the back / legs issues were over. Thank you for your good vibes – I hate not being able to do things. Reading is something I can do, so I’m doing a lot. I’m glad it’s easier for you now.
