This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with setting of the series is in North Carolina. I live here now so I enjoy reading about the area. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite North Carolina series are (in no particular order):
Dogfather, Dogmother Kill Devil Hills Station 17, Remington Medical, Intelligence Unit
by Ropxanne St. Claire by Kaylea Cross by Kimberly Kincaid
Carolina Beach Operation K9 Brothers Visitation NC
by Cecy Robson by Sandra Owens by Lori Foster

I’m such a Roxanne St. Claire fan. Little secret…she contacted me about The Dogfather series when she was preparing to write the first book because I lived in NC and that was the planned setting. One of my friends is actually from the area she was focused on and I connected them so she could get it even more right. You’ll see my name listed in the acknowledgements! So, you know I’m voting for those two series?
That’s exciting! I really like those series.
I’ve not read any of those series. And now I’m trying to rack my brain to see if I have read a book set in North Carolina… Not sure!
Some of these I had read and others I had to hunt and find to read. But I like to read stories and recognize the places.
I’ve not read any of those series but I do have a favorite series that is set there. Immortal Guardians by Dianne Duvall. If you haven’t tried them you should. They are paranormal romance with lots and lots of action. She’s an auto buy for me.
Thanks for sharing it. I haven’t read that and it would be a bit different genre than most of these and I like variety.
I don’t usually remember the exact locations where series take place unless it’s in the title (Twin Peaks) or a huge part (almost a character) of the series like New York in J.D. Robb’s In Death series. I am a huge fan of Lori Foster and the Winston books (and, apparently, one of the few, a fan of her UF non de plume L.L. Foster). I do like A Retired Witches series by the late Joyce and Jim Lavelle and I recently discovered The Seaside Cafe series by Bree Baker to devour them only to find out that the series is supposed to be ending after the next book (#7). Both series are set in NC.
Thanks for sharing the other series.
I’ve only read the Cecy Robson series from your list. I really liked Virginia Kantra’s Dare Island series that is set in the Outer Banks. North Carolina is a great setting for books.
I like the setting. The Kantra books look great – thanks for mentioning them.
I haven’t read any of these books here, however, I love the setting and need to read more set in it. Hardly any books ever good written in my setting where I live, so I gave up on it long ago haha
It is a beautiful setting with the ocean and the Blue Ridge Mountains. But there are many, many states and countries I enjoy.
I haven’t read any of those but hope you enjoy the next one you read.
Thank you for visiting. I’ve gotten some great suggestions for new series here.
I have not read any of these series, but I enjoy Lori Foster books. And I have enjoyed many books set in North Carolina, such a beautiful place.
These are mostly romance or romantic suspense. I like to get more of a mix but couldn’t come up with any straight mystery or fantasy set in NC.
