The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday,  my daughter came to tell me she couldn’t get the Internet to work at 11 pm when I was already in bed.  I rebooted the router but that didn’t work and I was too tired to do troubleshooting.  The next day I texted the neighbor to see if theirs was working and it was.  She mentioned something about getting power to the incoming box and I checked, my daughter had piled books underneath out box and hit the switch to turn it off.   I didn’t get far with visiting before my daughter wanted to go to a yard / art sale.  We went and she found a few things.  Lulu went along for the ride.  Then I needed to go in the yard to work on the planter or do the weed & feed but I was still figuring my out process. With the adhesive on the planter if you get off on the lower rows the upper ones don’t work at all.  I’ve already had that with just setting them in place.  I did find out last week that I needed a caulk gun for the adhesive rather than just squeezing it with my hands.  And it works so much better! lol   So instead, I stained the fence, while listening to audio.  After dinner, I came up to do a bit more computer work.   I’m worried about the government shutdown stuff, so we will see how this week goes.  I made a task list for tomorrow.

Monday,  before breakfast I did the spot watering, did some garage cleanup (putting things away)  and did the fall weed/feed for the front and side yards.  I’m going to make a list for the week now since there is so much I need to do on a time frame. It’s a blur of things I did today.  Finally, I got a bunch of pictures hung.  I could barely go to sleep since I was trying to figure out how to get everything done.  At least, I have now figured out how I’m going to do the planter adhesive. My SDB iris are rebloomimg.

Tuesday, I woke up still buzzing with all I want to do. I started a batch of Lulu food and a pan of chocolate chip cookies.  I did some computer work and started prepping the planter for the adhesive round. I did the first round putting the second row on the first pavers.  I had a Lowe’s return and a Walmart pickup.   I started putting the third set of pavers on the second row but ran out of adhesive.  I talked to my daughter over dinner about our options for the weekend and I was glad to actually have her talk to me instead of her usual I’m too stressed and I can’t talk about it.  My approach was to say there are 4 options and give the facts, pros and cons to each option.   That always seems to work well.  I’ve done all the research so she can just tell me what she likes or doesn’t like.

Wednesday,  I woke up early still jazzed with all the things we need to do.  I am keeping ahead of my reviews only one day at a time.    The snow peas are already about 8 inches high!   I picked up more garden soil and landscape adhesive at Home Depot.  I did manage to get the rest of the planter adhered and put the soil in the front circle of it.  I was a hot, filthy mess.  I tried to calculate how much more soil I would need and ordered more for tomorrow.

So I have a little rant. Skip this paragraph if you aren’t interested. I find products I really like and then they disappear from where I was buying them and I have to find a new source.  The latest example of this is Kids Suave Free n Gently Body Wash which I have used for roughly 30 years.  I have to have a fragrance free one.  I started getting it at Walmart for $1.93 a bottle.  Then it moved to Food Lion for $2.00.  It isn’t available on Amazon right now,  which is how I got some last year.  Luckily Suave has a product locator by zip code.  It is no longer sold in NC.  My ex bought me 16 bottles at Kroger in IL for $1.99 each.  It is in VA at Kroger so I may run up there and buy some.  There are 2 issues here.  One is getting the product at all; the other is to get the items I need I sometimes have to go to multiple stores which doesn’t work well with something like Instacart where one must have $35 minimum order. (Part of why I no longer am using Instacart)  These issues are often with gluten-free products as well, being sold at only one store, maybe two, or I have to order online.  And tracking down and running around to buy these things is time-consuming.

Thursday,  I went right to Home Depot to pick up more soil.  How many 2cu. foot bags will fit in the back of a Volt?  16.   I’m also watered the lawn since it hasn’t rained for 2 weeks.  I did my computer work for the day before heading out to fill the planter with soil and plant what I have so far.  I finished putting in the dirt and planting what I have so far.  I need more dirt though.   I’ll have to do another 12- 16 I think.  I was filthy and soaking wet as expected by the time I finished. The garage is in great shape for the cabinets to arrive.

Friday,  I got up and spot watered.  I responded to 2 people picking up stuff I am giving away.  I updated my Library Love and COYER Challenge posts, and wrote my review for tomorrow.    I am just getting busier with stuff now as we get down to the wire on the kitchen cabinets.

September Reading:  I had another good reading month.  I managed to read 24 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge.  I listened to 12 audiobooks, read 6  library books,  24 COYER reads,  and 5 books which I already own.

All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog)  2021 Library Love Challenge

I did manage to read 5 books I own (goal is 3 per month):

  • Slow Burn by Lisa Clark O’Neill
  • ? Murder on Black Swan Lane by Andrea Penrose
  • ? Murder at Half Moon Gate by Andrea Penrose
  • Hottie Lumberjack by Tawna Fenske
  • ?  The Family Tree by Steph Mullin

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thanks so much to Ace,  Montlake,  and Brilliance Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I got these at the Audible 2-1 credit sale.

I finally picked my Amazon First read for September.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Yes, if you have a good product. Stick with it! I had got used to this shampoo and then they stopped selling it–selling variations of it and I had to go on ebay to buy large quanities which is a risk because the reviews on ebay are nill.

  2. Berls

What a busy week! I feels good to get so much accomplished, I’m sure. I had to laugh about the internet, I’ve had that happen before where you’re doing all this complicated troubleshooting and you simply need to turn it back on lol 🙂 Your front garden looks so nice!! Well worth all the work. I looked up the Suave body wash and I’m showing it available on Amazon right now – delivery in my area same day. So maybe it’s available for you now. It’s also at Kroger’s by me according to their website, so if you ever need I’d be happy to ship to you 🙂

Have a great week! Good luck getting ready for your kitchen cabinets!

    • I got 18 bottles at Kroger in Virginia this past weekend. Maybe it is just that we don’t have Krogers anymore in NC except it was at Food Lion. Thanks for offering ! I’ll keep that in mind if I get stuck.

I KNOW RIGHT!? I have the same stuff with lactose intolerance. I have these amazing cocos-based deserts, I hope they won’t take them out of the store I usually go to!

Or what I also can’t stand is that apps are working fine and then they change stuff or do updates and it’s making it WORSE….

    • Thanks Lisa! Oh I’ve read all the Karen Grey books. I just picked up that first one in ebook because it was free. I have it on audio. I did have a good weekend I was out of town for 3 days. So now I’m behind myself.

Somehow you went to spam but I approved you so it’s good now. I’m not sure why it happens but it does every so often. It was you and one other long time reader.

  4. I hate that when they scale back or discontinue a favorite product! Sometimes you can buy these things on eBay. Your planters look nice! I’ve been having to spot water outside too because our drip water system isn’t watering enough for our weather. We had 90s all last week but thankfully we’re back to 80s this week.

Hope your kitchen remodel goes well!

  5. Jen

The flower bed looks amazing! We just spent a few hours digging up a ground bed, planting bulbs, and adding new dirt and mulch. I hope we did enough to get some amazing flowers in the spring!

I can relate to your rant. I feel the same way. And right now things are double hard because of supply issues. *ugh*

    • I’m kind of proud of my flower bed, even though it is far from perfect. I figured out what I wanted. I ordered the supplies and learned how to use them to get what I wanted. Both the pavers and bags of soil are heavy so it was hard work.

Thanks Jen. I don’t know if it’s COVID or if they are going to discontinue it.

  6. Your yard looks great.
I had troubleshooting problems when I first bought this laptop. But I finally figured it out.
I made Snickerdoodle cookies this week. They are good but I like chocolate chip better. lol

    • My grandma used to make Snickerdoodles and I did too. I’m more likely to make something with oatmeal, peanut butter or nuts these days.

Thank you! I worked really hard on the yard over the last month, both physically and mentally.

    • Thank you! It was hard work but just needs a bit more soil yet. I was gone over the weekend for 3 days but I haven’t forgotten the things I need to do. Last week got away from me.

  7. Glad the internet glitch turned out to be a simple fix once you spotted the problem and wow, the front paver stack and double bed looks fab. Eight inches on the peas is a good crop so far. Too bad about the shampoo. I hunt high and low for certain mixes I prefer when they stopped getting sold locally for a while and yours is even less fun since you have the gluten-free purchases to make from multiple outlets. Nice that you got more things done out in the garage and in the house especially with a renovation in progress. Just had a yard sale and took a load to the charity shop so it feels good to get rid of stuff.
Way to go on your monthly reading and hitting you reading goals and then some for the TBR pile. Nice haul. I got the Widow Island ones, too.

    Have a good week, Anne!

    • Thank you Sophia! I was able to get 18 bottles of it over the weekend in Virginia. I am so glad to have the yard things I wanted to accomplish this year mostly complete except for some watering.. The planter needs more soil but I can do that.

  8. I hate it when it becomes hard to find something that you have been using for a long time. It is even worse with gluten free items. We go to grocery stores on a rotation because you cannot get everything at one store like you can if you don’t have food issues. Your planter looks great! I know that it was a lot of work though. I hope that you have a great week!

    • Thanks Carole. I know you understand about the GF items. I was able to get 18 bottles of the body wash in Virginia this weekend. I don’t know if it’s a covid supply problem or if they are discontinuing it. It seems to only be at Kroger now and we don’t have them here anymore. But it used to be at Food Lion before Covid. The planter was hard work but I’m happy to have it all set and my flowerbeds all completed. It needs a bit more soil and I have some more plants coming next week.

  9. It’s so annoying to suddenly have trouble finding a long-time favorite item. I guess the plus side is that at least it hasn’t been discontinued. Better to have to go out of the for it than not have the option at all. Similarly, I use QTip brand round cotton pads and used to pick them up at Target. Since Covid I’ve ordered them on Amazon but all of a sudden they’re no longer available on Amazon. Ugh. I don’t like going in Target so I guess I need to see if they’re available for drive-up pick-up. (I realize this is a total first world problem. lol) Your planters in the photos are just beautiful!

    • Thank you Tanya! If you don’t want to do pickup at Target, you can also get online shipping from Target for some items. We just got a little moveable fire pit that way. I don’t know if it’s Covid or being discontinued which just makes it more frustrating but I was able to get 18 bottles in Virginia over the weekend.

  10. Wow, you’ve been a busy bee! The planters look great. I hear you on the “products disappearing” thing — although I see from one of the comments that you were able to get some bottles of your shampoo, so that’s good. My husband has the same rant about clothes. If he finds a pair of pants he likes, he wants to be able to get online 5 or 10 years later and order the same ones. (On the one hand, I sympathize with him. I don’t much like shopping anymore, either. On the other hand, imagine if he was still wearing styles from the 70s!)

Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard recently posted: Scales and Sensibility, by Stephanie Burgis (Release Day review)
    • Thanks! The planter was hard work but I like the end result. I’m with your husband. The closest we have managed is ordering things from Lands End. They do keep plainer styles around for a long time. I have stuff of theirs I am wearing out that is 30 years old or so. But they provide a lot of good basics for us. I have bought shoes and sandals I like from them as well.

  11. Rant away – stores discontinuing products that you love really annoys me too. Almost as much as my kids deciding they will no longer eat a food that I’ve just stocked up on!

Snow peas (or mangetout as we call them) are so yummy – I hope you get a fantastic crop!

We had internet issues too a few weeks ago. My eldest bought a new router but somehow the whole system refused to connect – even when we plugged the old one back in. He did sort it out but it took over a day to do. How did we live without it?

    Have a great week!

  12. I’ve had that happen too–items I like to use disappear or are discontinued. It can be so frustrating, especially when I’m stuck having to shop around for a replacement that never quite lives up to the first. I am glad you had a great reading month in September. Here is to a great October!

    • Thank you Wendy. If it works, I don’t want something different. I had a good reading month especially considering I had many more ebooks than audio. This month it’s a bit of a flip the other way, which works better for doing projects. But it’s best for me to have a balance of audio and ebooks.
