The sole witness to a murder, stuntwoman Rachel Denning thought she’d found the perfect hideout in a remote cabin just outside Asheville, North Carolina. Until a strange man appears in her bedroom. After a few terrifying moments, she realizes it’s a mix-up—he’s not there to kill her—and Rachel finds herself with an unexpected protector in the form of a navy SEAL.
Dallas Manning is just trying to recover. After being rescued from the Taliban, he’s on extended leave. Finding his mountain retreat occupied by a gorgeous knife-wielding stranger isn’t part of his recovery plan, and neither is training dogs. But an old friend enlists him to help train service dogs for veterans, and Dallas recognizes himself in Bella, a dog rescued from a bad situation.
All Dallas wants is to be left alone so he can get his head straight, but Rachel stirs his protective instincts. Being trapped together makes it impossible to ignore their growing attraction, but neither of them can outrun their pasts. They’ll have to find a way forward together or risk losing it all.
I continue to love this Operation K-9 Brothers series with dogs and a North Carolina setting. The blurb for Mountain Rescue didn’t sound too appealing to me but I loved it. Rachel is a strong woman in a lot of trouble. She heads to her home town area and hides out in the cabin from Operation K-9 where she stayed during her friend’s wedding. Dallas is in bad shape, on medical leave from the Seals. He goes to stay with his team mate, Jack, who runs a place for veterans near Asheville, NC. The dogs are part of the story but not the key focus here.
Dallas and Rachel collide since they both plan to use the cabin. They quickly become supportive to each other. Neither has had a real relationship and they don’t live in the same state. So they don’t believe they have a future but they have a strong attraction. Their banter and sexy connection is a fun ride. Dallas is protective. Rachel is healing.
The criminals wanting to kill Rachel are dogged. She is right to be worried. There’s also the family and friends who might be hurt to find her. Lucky for her, she has a team of SEALs who want to protect her. They are smart with strategy and skills which I really appreciated. It’s a suspenseful time with plenty of danger but Rachel has amazing friends. I love the circle of friends and the business they have created.

I love the sound of this, especially the idea of two people ending up at the same remote cabin together!
I really enjoy this series for both the veteran aspect, the dogs and the romantic suspense.
Quick question: is Library Love returning in 2022?
yes we are! The sign up post is actually tomorrow.
I like the sound of this entire series! But then, I am partial to dogs…and a fun romance. 🙂
Oh, I do like the sound of this series.
Nice to hear you enjoyed the story despite not feeling the description. I love romance mixed with mystery, action and suspense.
This sounds like a great series. I’m loving that it has dogs in it and that it’s set in Asheville, NC. Sounds like it has a nice mix of romance and action.
Oh yes this sounds good and wow that dog is wicked looking. Thanks for sharing
That dog on the cover looks both fierce and friendly at the same time. Sounds like an exciting book.
