Sunday Post – 4 February 2024 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday,  rain overnight and now nice.  The temps will drop and then be in the 50s again this week, a bit cooler week. I should mention my daughter has been doing fairly well and enjoying her Accounting course.  She is often done with the assignments early in the week.  Lulu and I took a shorter walk early before the temperatures started dropping at noon. I refilled a bunch of my daughter’s RX.   I spent the afternoon messing around with things.  Rachel recommended Followit which works similar to WordPress email.   I may go to those 2 options.  FollowIt if you want an email for each post.  With WordPress you can set in the reader if you want Immediately (every post) , Daily or Weekly (which are digests with multiple posts).   I signed up myself and I will see how the emails look for a couple days.   I worked on a menu plan for this week.

Monday, I did my usual visiting from Feedly.  I wrote a review and setup some things.  I emailed followit support with a few questions to make sure I know how things work.  My daughter had a doc appt,  then an eye appt and we ordered her some new glasses.  While she was having her exam, I dropped off an Amazon return and picked up a couple items at Food Lion.  Then my daughter and I took Lulu for a short walk.  It’s sunny but chilly.

Tuesday, I woke up very early and got to work on testing things and trying options to make a change for email.  I did not test enough so things will be weird this week but I think it will be fixed soon. I took Lulu and Abby for their walk. Then I had Google fiber installed (I have ATT fiber, both are 1GB) and I was not happy.  In fact Lulu picked up on my feelings and actually growled at the installer!  I’ve only ever heard her growl one other time. Yikes.  The issue is all our computers are really on the second floor in the big office over the garage.  The ATT router is there.  But Google fiber only installs a box on the main floor near the electrical which is the farthest point in the house from the office.  Then they use an extender.  Plus we have the incoming box and router on a battery backup so we have time to shut things down before the Internet drops if the power cuts out.  The computers are slower on Google because of the distance.  So I have to decide which to use.  My daughter is stressed out about writing her first paper for school.  We ate dinner and then just snuggled on the couch with Lulu watching Hell’s Kitchen.

Wednesday,  I went to bed about the usual time and woke up even earlier today before 4 am.  I went through some emails to work on my latest issues with mailing and FS Poster.  I managed to go back to sleep for about another hour.  When I got up, I reconnected the Google and disconnected the ATT to give the Google a test today.  It really is about the same speed.  So I’m less upset than I was.  There is still the battery issue though. I walked just a bit with Abby and Lulu but it was raining so we didn’t go far.  I’m setting up some posts and writing some reviews.

Thursday,  Ashley has my WordPress follow button set up now.  Slowly, things are getting in shape.  Ashley is the most help. Lulu and Abby and I did our walk. I reviewed my daughter’s paper.  I did the usual visiting through Feedly.  I did a pickup at Walmart with Lulu riding shotgun.  The broccoli is nearly ready. I finally got through to my daughter’s doctor. The insurance company has some kind of deal so they won’t approve the medication her doctor recommends which works for her, but one that is similar so we will try the similar one. (One of the results of for profit insurance companies).

Friday, it’s Lulu’s 6th birthday!!  I did my daily emails with tech support to try to resolve issues.  From 12 noon – 1pm, I attended a Zoom training session for Democrats.  I have not been very interested in politics in the past. I always voted though. I was raised Republican. But I support Joe Biden and may be a Democrat now permanently. His economic policies and International diplomacy has been stellar. Also,  I can’t support bullying, adultery, convicted sexual assault and convicted financial fraud. I can’t respect that kind of leader and that is not how I want the rest of the world to see the USA. They are not qualities I want to encourage in my family, friends or the youth of the country either.

I called to ask some questions about the Google Fiber.  I called the office of a prospective PCP for next year and made an appointment.  Then I went to pick up a couple items at Dollar Tree and my daughter’s RX at Harris Teeter.   I took Lulu right out then for a medium walk.   Lulu had a bit of filet and spinach and got a new toy!

Saturday, I took my time getting up.   Things went well with Feedly blog visiting, replying to comments and setting up posts.   My daughter finished her homework yesterday so she can relax. I did some more testing with Google Fiber taking into account what the tech suggested and it’s going to work and be faster!  Lulu and I took a walk and we got to see Abby and the neighbor as we came back.   It was sunny but a bit chilly.

To update:  The Right Sidebar is all updated and working. Subscribing provides an email follow through Followit and you can determine the frequency for yourself as I explain below.  Mailpoet stopped working January 24 and I haven’t been able to fix it yet.   FS Poster has never worked for any of the 3 purposes I purchased it to do. I continue daily emails with their support without any progress. They keep asking for more information which I provide.

Mail and Follow information:

I did a post earlier in the week about mail and following options because I was changing things for the new mailing rules and am having difficulty updating Mailpoet for the changes.  It required a bunch of DNS changes and it’s my first experience with DNS syntax.

Anyway,  subscribers are in Followit now which is an RSS reader.     It does send an email.  At the top right of the email, you can choose to Edit or Unfollow.  One of the things you can do in Edit is choose Single Email (an email for each post), Newsletter ( a daily email including all posts from that day), and Magazine (which is actually once a week which has timing like the Weekly digest I used to do in Mailpoet).    The imports are set at a time of 7am which I asked for 12 noon.  Since there is a delay of 4-6 hours, that would allow pickup of any 1AM or 7AM posts on the same day.  A 7AM email, would only pickup the previous day and the occasional 1AM post. So everything ends up a day late.

The timing of the email is weird.  I was told by their tech support that the daily email would happen at the time I followed.  I’ve unfollowed and refollowed and  no matter what time I follow it sets me to 7am.

I realize mostly people don’t care about timing of emails or posts as much as me.  🙂

January Reading:  I was doing ok until I had trouble reading at bedtime.  I managed to read 24 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge.  I listened to 16 audiobooks, read 7 library books,  15 COYER reads, and  6 books which I already own.

All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog)  2024 Library Love Challenge

I did manage to read 6 books I own (goal is 3 per month):

  • 🎧 My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland
  • 🎧 Dead Man’s Grave by Neil Lancaster
  • The Uniform by Jodie Lawrance
  • 🎧The Blood Tide by Neil Lancaster
  • Sisters in Love by Melissa Foster
  • 🎧 Visions of You by Catherine Cowles

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My sincere thanks to Penguin Audio (2) ,  Simon & Schuster Audio,   Canelo,  Avon,   St. Martin’s Griffin.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I used my gift cards from winning COYER Ch 3 and also COYER #SIAM to buy this Australian book which is not at my libraries.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. I don’t feel like I’ve been getting your emails so I went directly to Follow It and made sure to see that I was subscribed there. So I hope that works! If not, I’m always checking your site anyway, lol. Happy birthday to Lulu! I’ve had the issue with reading before bed because of being so tired the last couple of weeks, so I get that! But you’re doing well with getting books already owned read. Hope you have a good week!

  2. Hope you’re getting your email issues sorted out. I’m struggling with Instagram myself. It has stopped letting me follow people! I’m well below the follow limit.

  3. Yay for new Google Fiber. I miss my Google Fiber. We moved to a different area a little over 18 months ago. Our new place doesn’t over Google Fiber. Fortunately, we have okay fiber internet.I hope you have a great week!

  4. I got my Followit email from you this morning. Success! I need to plan for broccoli, I love it! I hate technical/internet issues. We have RACE internet and it’s been good so far. We were a little worried moving out to the country since my husband works from home and he does a bunch of online meetings, but it works better than our Internet at home. It’s also 1GB. I’m looking forward to the new Iris Yamashita!

  5. Good that you got things sorted and will hopefully figure out even more as you play with it. Nice that your daughter is really taking to the accounting class, very practical skill there. Ah, happy birthday to Lulu. One of my cats has a birthday this month and turns five. Lovely that you could get out for several walks and run so many errands. We’re to have mild temps and weather this week so I want to walk every day if I can.
Solid numbers for your challenges even with the struggle to stay awake for night reading. Yay for doubling your goal for reading off the shelf.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  6. Internet issues are always something around here. There is no cable on our road even though Spectrum keeps promising they are coming. We had AT&T when we moved in back in 2000. They “upgraded” (what a joke) to Uverse and it was so bad that when T-Mobile finally sent an email that their home internet was in the area I jumped at it. That was almost 3 yrs ago. I think. We may need a new tower now because we have to keep resetting it, but it’s fast to reboot and fast even with all of us on it. AT&T was 4 Mbps. Can you believe that?! It was SO frustrating. Never, never, again.

  7. The fiber installation sounds really frustrating and it’s always amazing how dogs pick up on our moods. I love the cover of the Jill Shalvis! She’s an author I’m really planning on reading more from this year. Happy birthday to Lulu! I hope you both have a great week!

  8. I hope Google keeps working. I’m thinking of going with AT*T Fiber since they installed recently and our service goes down frequently.

I feel the same way about the international diploamcy. It doesn’t make the news much but that’s the point. He had put a team in place that avoids drama and does their job, which they’re supposed to.

  9. You had a great reading month in January and Happy Birthday Lulu! It’s supposed to be in the 50s all week here in my part of WV and even though it’s out of the ordinary, I’ll take it. The pups love the warmer weather. Glad schooling is going well for your daughter and I can see why you used your GC for that book. I looked it up on Goodreads and it looks and sounds great. Hope you all have a great week!

  10. Happy 6th birthday to Lulu! *skritches*

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday. I continue to feel behind, even though I’m not all that behind. I even started having stress dreams. I need to sit down and come up with a long term to do list to see if that settles my mind. I’ve also not been reading much. I don’t love my current audiobook, but I should finish it today. Then I’m trying an oldie from my TBR that is also Rom Sup, which will cover two challenges. I’m in the car a lot for work today so that should help!
