The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar. WTZ giveaway ends tonight!
Sunday, today was rainy. I was busy trying to catchup with Feedly and Sunday posts. Plus my daughter had to turn in her homework and I checked the spelling and phrasing. She only has this week left. I really enjoyed the chat – it was great to see everyone! Excellent discussion. I went to bed at the normal time of 11:30pm sleepy and started coughing and coughing until about 2:30am, when the smoke detectors went off Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep! Just 6 so I went to the bathroom and another half hour 6 more beeps. So I walked around to see if I smelled anything, walked around to see if I saw anything. Nope. Half an hour later, 6 more beeps. So I got dressed, went out to the garage to get the 8 foot ladder. I disconnected my detector. Another half hour, 6 more beeps. So I disconnected the one in the family room, just outside my bedroom door. I read news and emails for the next hour and all was quiet. So finally I went to sleep at 5:30am.
Monday, I got up to feed Lulu and let her out and went back to sleep until 1:30pm. Yeah, I feel like crap. I don’t know what that coughing was, seems like an allergy thing since I am fine today. I wonder if I forgot my nasal spray at bedtime last night because I was stuffy. I was caught up on visiting today but nothing else. We tried an order with Daily Harvest which is all gluten free. We are finding the items to be rather expensive for what you get and many are more like side dishes without protein.
Tuesday, it’s still a bit cool. I walked Abby and Lulu and wore a light jacket. FS Poster has an update which is supposed to work with Threads. I sent it to Ashley to upload, now it seems like none of it works. I went to Harris Teeter for my daughter’s RX and a couple specials, and dropped off an Amazon return.
Wednesday, I was going through emails. There was one from Hailey Edwards with free audio codes and I found one which worked! So I got Gray Seas. Now I just have to get going on reading the rest of the series. I walked Abby and Lulu and the weather is near perfect. FS Poster is now not working for anything since the update. I looked through some expiring deals on Chirp.
Thursday, these next 3 days have no appts and nothing on the schedule which is just lovely. I can stay home and do what I need on my own schedule. I did some testing with FS Poster this morning. I set up some reviews, edited some and wrote some. I made pasta with fresh spinach. It looked like so much spinach until it cooked and then we wanted more, much more. I read about the arguments at the Supreme Court in two cases and I have to say I am furious. My daughter finished her last assignment so she is finished for this session. She’s going to take the next session off because 2-4 of her medications are changing.
Friday, I’m enjoying a more normal sleep schedule for a couple days. Ashley looked at FS Poster overnight and patched it again. Then everything, the auto shares, the direct share test, and the schedule (like Revive Old Posts) from the last 2 days all posted everywhere at once around 3am. Now I think we are back to normal. I was adding Lulu photos to this post. I label all photos Lulu so when I searched for that in the media library, it shows I have 249 Lulu photos. Sounds about right. I am contemplating going dairy free while this whole H5N1 avian flu virus in dairy cattle and milk. But that would include yogurt, cottage cheese, cream, cheese and even ice cream, I suppose. I went to the farmer’s market as it is peak strawberry season and I got some fresh basil. I also got some impatiens for the pots by the front door. I got on to my regular computer stuff. I called the guy down the road because I’ve decided I need another 2 yards of blended soil. I finally got through after several calls to make an appt for my daughter’s PT. She called her neurologist because she is on the third day of a migraine but they can’t get her in until next Monday for a rescue injection. Then I went out and pulled weeds and mowed the back yard. I planted another basil plant. Now I need to make a new menu plan but I need to walk Lulu and fix dinner. It’s already 6:30pm.
Saturday, I was lazy about getting up but then I went at the usual tasks. I wrote and edited a few reviews. I finished up a menu plan. It’s cloudy but nice today for Lulu’s walk with me. There are lots of scheduled things for the next week which I find more challenging. This next week is going to be hot – mid 80s / around 30C. No rain until next weekend.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My thanks to Simon Audio, Home Cooked Books, Penguin Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I bought some deals at Chirp all under $5.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

I read one of Ruth Ware’s books, but I haven’t gotten back to read any more. I really should.
I also want to read more. As far as I know they are all stand alones. Thanks for visitin Mark!
Yay glad you will begin Hailey’s audio series. I enjoy them. I loved Ware’s latest.
Thanks for the info Kimberly
Oh no about the smoke detectors! That would definitely ruin your night! Scary too when they go off…Hope you have a nice week! Was warm here today almost 80.
yes they absolutely shriek. So loud. Poor Lulu is so frightened. Thanks Greg. We’re in for very warm weather this week.
Sounds like a busy week and not much sleep! That alarm!
I hope your daughter’s migraine goes soon.
Have a good week next week and hopefully better nights.

Thank you Emily. This week looks busy so we will need our sleep.
Well that was a rough and tumble night between coughing and beeps. Glad you had some lovely weather days before that heat moved in. We went from frosty nights and snow flurries to steamy 70’s in 24 hours and my body didn’t do well with that. Yay for your daughter finishing off her assignments even with the migraine, poor thing.
Nice book haul and way to score on the Chirp sale.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia! That is a big change in weather.
I hate smoke detectors! I know you have to have them, but they often go off when I’m cooking, something about this house/stove/oven. Good luck this week, sounds like it will be busy.
Thank you Tammy. I still need to figure out if I should replace the batteries again or what.
Hi! Your dog is so cute.
Have a great day!
Stormi
Thanks Stormi. Lulu is our best girl.
Sounds like another busy week. I’m not sure if it is new but I love the header. I’m actually visiting on my laptop today instead of my tablet so maybe I’m just noticing it. Did you find out what was making the alarms go off? Hope it was nothing major but it would worry me. When You Had Power looks really good. I’m going to have to look into it. Hope you guys have a great week!
Thanks Barb. That is my March-April header this year. It’s one of my favorites. I have not dealt with the alarms yet. The batteries are new so I suppose I’ll have to have the company look at them. We have been too tired to deal with it this past week and yes, this week looks busier.
I hadn’t heard about the dairy/flu issue. I’m a huge dairy fan, so that’s a bummer. Here’s my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2024/04/28/sunday-post-munich-and-dachau/
yes I read 3 epidemiologist newsletters. It has transferred birds to cows and even a few humans. It is also in the milk now but pasteurization makes the virus inactive or something. Also there’s a new strain of COVID, that is 1 in 4 cases now in the US. It is 3x more immune to the current vaccines. And in Germany, 800 people got RSV at a festival of some sort. I’m torn. At least we have great veggies to eat.
If I forget to take my daily allergy medicine, I start to have symptoms like a cold is coming on, and then I worry I’m catching a cold and then I realize I didn’t take my allergy medicine. I’m glad there wasn’t any fire concerns! I hope your daughter is feeling better. I swear the ratio for spinach is 10 cups uncooked = 1 tbsp cooked!
Thank you Victoria. At least my daughter can relax without school assignments this week. yes I am careful about taking allergy meds every day too. You are correct. I think we could use all the spinach in the garden (4 plants) and maybe get 1/4 cup.
Damn you had a rough beginning of the week Anne! I am glad you had three days without appointments after!
Thanks Sophie. I don’t want to repeat the alarm symphony anytime soon.
Those smoke detectors going off at night weren’t great! Did they need new batteries? I know ours keep bleeping if the battery is running down. And if you are considering avoiding dairy – we’ve been vegan for a while and there is now a really good range of alternative milks, cheeses and ice cream made with plant-based ingredients. We even have a really good butter replacement. I personally prefer oat milk in my tea and coffee, but there are other options – almond, rice and soya. Have a great week:)).
Thanks Sarah for the ideas for non-dairy. We may need to try some of them. I replace the batteries every year and they usually chirp if the battery is failing. Even with 3 days without appts, I didn’t have the energy to try to figure them out yet.
Smoke dectors are a pain in the but we have ones from vivint and when they go out you have to call them to get the addd back on your panel such a pain in the but. Gray seas looks intersting i am rarely luck enough to get one of those codes to work probably cause i am on the west coast. Hope that your daughter starts to feel better. Have a great reading week.
Thank you Jan. The company that installs them is run by firefighters and I probably will just need to give them a call. I’ll also peruse the instruction booklet, but batteries are not old. It’s a PITA especially because the 2 that were misbehaving are on the ceilings where it is up 12-14 feet or something so even with the 8 foot ladder is a stretch.
Those smoke detectors can go haywire sometimes! What a bummer it interrupted your sleep so much. It doesn’t sound like Daily Harvest is a good buy. I have been curious about some of these meal delivery services, but my husband never wanted to try them. I planted basil, pepper, cilantro, and potatoes. I need to get my cucumbers and tomatoes in bigger containers with cages for the tomatoes and support for the cucumbers because it’s finally warm enough at night!
Thanks Rachel. I am hoping for the sleep I got these last few days but I’ll have to figure out the smoke alarms at some point. We are trying some just so my daughter has some quick meals or when we are out all afternoon I don’t have as much time to do as much cooking. I try to make our evening meals be ones with at least 4 servings so there are leftovers for lunch. My first basil plant died because I tried too early. I bought 2 more and hope it will go better this time.
I could not give up dairy. I already have to be gluten free, I am not going cheese free too. Because I am hearing impaired, we have a special smoke detector that connects with my phone and sends alerts that way. That is how it tells us it needs a new battery too. If I’m asleep, I get the notification on my watch (which I wear to bed). I love the tech! Enjoy your new books!
I love the tech also. I dread the thought of giving up cheese, we are already gluten free also.
Busy weeks can be stressful! It’s nice to have a few days in a row without extra things. I could never give up cheese, lol, but I rarely eat much other dairy, and I very rarely drink milk. Looks like you got a few good audiobooks. Hope you enjoy them all! We had a ton of rain this weekend and the end of last week. I’m ready for some dry weather, as much as I do enjoy rainy nights though.
Cheese is a big thing for us too. I use milk with oatmeal. I rarely eat cereal. This week was supposed to be dry and near 90. It’s already backed off and will stay near 80 and have scattered showers a couple days (changed since yesterday) The mix is good for the garden.
I hate it when smoke alarms start beeping – it’s just the worst, and it always seems to happen in the middle of the night!
yes, and they weren’t chirping because of a low battery. So disruptive.
Sweet Lulu💜 You realize I adore your pooch from afar, right?
Can’t wait to get started with that Ware book. Looking forward to your thoughts on those graphic audios. I’ve not listened to one yet.
Have a great week!
I have not listened to a Graphic Audio yet either but I’ve bought many now. Should be interesting.
I’m glad there wasn’t a fire! It is super annoying to be woken up by a shrieking smoke detector, though. It’s hard to relax after that happens.
yes it was shrieking not chirping. The batteries are fine.
I’ve had a similar issue with smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors when the battery is low or depleted. Always seems to happy in the middle of the night too! I hope you have a great week!
Thank you Jodie. yes except the batteries are fine. I haven’ solved it yet.
How scary about the smoke alarm going off. Glad everything is alright. The Ruth Ware book looks really good. I hope you have a great week!
Thank you Yvonne. I’m excited about the Ruth Ware. There are lots of great reads this month.
I’ve been thinking about the bird flu too and dairy, and came to the same conclusion you did. It’s a tough one.
I hope your daughter feels better soon.
Thank you Erin. My daughter has a rescue injection this afternoon. We have more appts scheduled over the next month to try to improve things rather than react to symptoms. But it has risks and may make some things worse before they improve. I haven’t decided about dairy but I did order some dairy free ice cream. I guess I’ll try some products and see how that goes.
Isn’t it lovely when there are no appointments to deal with? And the weather was soooooo gorgeous this past week. I hope your daughter got some migraine relief today. Have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Carol. yes she got her rescue injection yesterday which broke the 6 day migraine. The weather is still nice, not as hot as they originally projected.
I just started taking Flonase for my allergies but it isn’t working yet. My allergies have been bad this year.
I also think it’s been a tough allergy year. I can’t use Flonase as it is scented. I used Nasonex for years, now the generic. Nasocort is also generic and unscented but not as strong.
I have that Ruth Ware on my TBR. I’ve enjoyed almost everything I’ve read by her. That’s so frustrating about the smoke alarms though glad it wasn’t anything. Still – I don’t like having my sleep distubred! Have a great week!
Thanks Katherine. The smoke alarms were not a good time. I’ve also enjoyed all my Ruth Ware reads and would like to read more of her back list.
Oh no, the smoke alarm! It happened to me too, during the day fortunately, but I had no idea how to fix it and it went on and loudly(!) for hours! I was in tears by the time I finally figured it out. I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
If the smoke alarm went on for hours we would need to leave the house! It’s just so annoying when there is nothing wrong like smoke or fire and it’s the middle of the night.
Sounds like a busy week. I love reading Ruth Ware books in the summer.

Ruth Ware does seem to have many summer releases. But her books do have some winter settings too. Thanks for visiting.
Hope you’ve managed to catch up on your sleep a bit. I intend to read the Kim Harrison series, it looks good. Hope you have a great weekend.
Thank you! It’s a good weekend.
Bird flu or no bird flu, you will have to pry all the dairy products from my cold, dead hands.
3 days with nothing on the schedule must’ve been heaven!
That pasta looks gooooood. I’m completely OUT of ALL pastas and keep forgetting to restock.
Thank Jinjer. I hear you on the dairy. Tonight is my homemade soup with meatballs and homemade french bread (which uses the oven.)
