The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday,  I started on chores quickly.  I woke up early since the time change.  I was doing great with chores and visiting blogs.  Then I sidetracked to watch a hearing in Fulton County Georgia where the Republicans filed a late night pleading that the Democrats were violating Georgia election statue.   I watched the whole hour where the judge went through the law with the attorneys from both parties.  The Democrat attorney had been notified at 3:30am and the hearing started at 8am.   The Republicans were trying to say that since drop boxes closed at the same time as advance voting, that absentee ballots could not be hand delivered to election offices during that time only through the mail by postman.  But that is not what the law says, it says they can be hand delivered to election office through to the end of election day.  The Republican also tried to say that because there was no poll watching, it wasn’t legal, and that the drop boxes were still out there.  But a) that wasn’t in his pleading and there have been hand delivered absentee ballots to election offices over the last decade (according to the election director testifying) and while there are election monitors there for tabulating, there are never poll watchers at offices, only at POLLS, and b) there were only 7 drop boxes, 4 were emptied and taken to election storage last night and 3 were emptied and locked in locked rooms at the polling places.   So the late night Republican effort to suppress votes was denied on all fronts. That hasn’t stopped several from saying there was fraud though.  I ate a BLT with fresh tomatoes and lettuce from the garden for lunch.  I switched out from my quilt to the comforter now for “winter.”

Monday, I got going early so I could take my Harley in for inspection.  I cleaned it up.  But when I got there, they were closed on Monday for winter hours!  So I’ll have to go another day this week.  The weather is lovely; traffic is not.  The neighbor, my daughter and I walked Lulu and Abby.

Tuesday, well it’s Election Day.  I’m low key anxious.   We went to my daughter’s doctor appt followup on recent issues.  Then my neighbor and I went to the polls to do poll greeting.

Wednesday,  I didn’t sleep well and I was crushed by most election results.  Surprisingly, the other candidates I voted for at the state level did well.  I am distressed by the racism, sexism and willingness to trust your lives to a convicted felon, adulterer, sexual abuser, among other things.  He is old, suffering from dementia, and too beholden to dictators and oligarchs.  The economic policies will lead to much higher prices, high deficits and a recession.  The effects on healthcare will cause much suffering and deaths.  The abortion bans have already tripled maternal deaths and increased infant mortality by 7%.  The neighbor and I walked Lulu and Abby in the morning and again with my daughter in the afternoon.  I did ride the Harley to the dealership and it passed the inspection.

Thursday,  we got a bit of rain overnight and we need it.  I did some blog work in the morning, finished up reading a freebie and wrote the review.  My daughter has a med appt after lunch and then I’ll need to go pick up all the refills, hers and mine at Harris Teeter.

Friday,  it’s still upper 70s/25C roughly  but will be cooler this weekend. I spent some time reading and making notes on healthcare for us for 2025. I planned to do yardwork but just didn’t have the energy today in the end.  We walked with Lulu before dinner.

Saturday, I got busy with some chores, organized things for the meals I’m preparing today.  My daughter is doing better.  She only had 4 migraine days in October and the abortives worked (stopped the migraine).  She’s talking about being able to go back to school which she hasn’t been able to do since May.  It’s hard when you have a migraine 31/31 days or 25/30 days in a month.  Marley joins us this afternoon for 9 days. We got her crate and beds and food dishes set up.  I taught the neighbor how to make food, so our fridge is full of Lulu food and Marley food.  She and Lulu are chasing each other around a bit.   I had a BLT with probably the last garden tomato.  Lulu and Marley helped me with the bacon.   Then before dinner my daughter and I with Lulu and Marley walked with the neighbor and Abby.  The dogs know each other so it was fine.   Halfway down the street another house has invisible fence with 2 dogs.  I had asked a few weeks ago their names when I saw one of their humans outside.  So then, when I went by again  I said Hi Clover! Hi Maggie!  I think it’s the first time I have seen a dog with shocked face.  Now we talk to them every time and they were out today.

How do I do it?

I organize my shelves highly on Goodreads so I can find the books I want to read.  I have a lot of freebies, for example, which are either 9kfree or 8kfree, depending on whether they were “purchased ” for $0 or from an author’s newsletter.   Then I have shelves for the different genres.  A combination of these shelves is like a Venn diagram which gives me ones that are in both categories.

So if I read the first book of a series and decide I really don’t like the book or author and want to get rid of the rest and not read them, how do I categorize that?  I want to make sure I don’t accidentally get them again somehow.  There are freebies I go to purchase and find I already have them.  I suppose I could move them to a NOPE shelf, then  I could delete them from my cloud content.  Any other suggestions?

If you have any tips for me, please comment.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My big thanks to Tantor Audio and Brilliance Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

NONE.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

Friday Freebies on Chirp:

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. We got some much needed rain this past week too! I have the same issue as you with getting books I already have. But being I’m so behind, it isn’t something I have an issue with yet. I have my DNF shelf on Goodreads. I think the NOPE shelf might be good for you because then when you go to look you could see it had that mark? So glad to hear your daughter is feeling able to do classes again! That’s great! And as always the Lulu picture in the bed is adorable!

  2. The little rain we got wasn’t nearly enough. Everything is so dry! I’m afraid to do any brush burning until we get some moisture. I really need to get my raised beds set up so I can start growing a lot of our own veggies. And I think I’ll get some chickens. For that I’ll need a coop and decide where to put it. The election was just too depressing. Now we’ll all be made to suffer for those fools who voted for the convicted felon. We’re going to replace our phones and the dishwasher and I asked my eldest spawn to build me a gaming computer before OrangeHitler enacts his big beautiful tariffs. FFS

I still need to figure out that Audible thing you talked about several weeks ago. I’m so lost right now. With the divorce and not sleeping much, my brain is fried. I need to back up my audiobooks from Audible and Chirp to a hard drive so I always have them. I’ve told the boys they may want to back up their Steam games. Just in case. Anyway, I hope you have a great week!

  3. That’s fab news that your daughter is feeling well enough to consider getting back into school. She’s a trooper.
What a week and one I don’t want to repeat, but looking forward now. I didn’t get a chance to check the Chirp freebies this week. Your post was a good reminder, thanks. Nice that you got your Harley ready for another year.
I can’t think of another way to distinguish your Goodreads organization of books other than a ‘nope’ or ‘not interested’ shelf. I know bookbub helps by letting a person mark them ‘I skipped it’ so it doesn’t keep bringing up the books to the readers attention.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  4. That’s wonderful about your daughter. I hope she is able to go back to school. I’m sure that would be so exciting for her. I love the upside down Lulu pictures. My dog is a big fan of sleeping in that position though he takes up a lot more room. And too funny about the shocked dog faces. I hope you have a wonderful week.

  5. Yes, I was shocked he won again, especially being a convicted felon with low/non-existent morals. Do you remember when it was a huge deal if was discovered someone running for president had an affair? And that’s the least of his transgressions. It’s a very different world now. Wonderful news about your daughter! I have green tomatoes on my vines, but I doubt they’ll ripen because it’s been in the low 30s at night here. I do have lettuces, radishes and carrots coming up, though. Two zucchinis left.

  6. Like you and so many of us, I was devastated by the election news. I have nothing but gratitude and admiration for how hard you worked to change the outcome, and I’m sorry your (and Democrats’ collective) efforts weren’t enough. I’m trying not to go down the rabbit-hole of despair and fear, but strengthen my resolve for the challenges ahead.

I love hearing about Lulu as well as your neighbors’ dogs. And I’m so glad your daughter is doing better on the new migraine medication. Hang on to all those “little” joys (but really not little at all); they are part of what will get us through.

  7. The election results are so disheartening, and I’ll leave it at that for now. I had a great weekend, my daughter came home. We participated in an art event where we got to try seven different mediums and create our own works. Sunday I went to Boston for a show and later we celebrated two birthdays in the family.

As for your book dilemma, I think creating a “nope” type shelf on GR would be helpful if you check GR before you purchase/read books. But if you don’t do that, I don’t know if it will help much. I also wouldn’t remove the books completely from your Amazon cloud because as long as Amz thinks you own it, it will flag the book if you try to get it again. That wouldn’t help for books you get directly from an author, but it may prevent some duplications.

  8. Glad to hear your daughter is doing better.

Thanks for sharing how you organize your reads. Personally, if I start a series and wasn’t thrilled with it, I’d delete the rest of the series from my TBR.
