The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Sunday, I woke early to go out and do the weed killer on the front and east side of the house. Neither hose was quite long enough but I made it work. I did some of the usual Sunday visiting blogs. Then I went down a rabbit hole deleting copy posts that were duplicates. We are watching Marley today so she went on the walk with us and Lulu. I wrote a couple reviews and only have a couple books left for April ARCs so I am going to start on May ARCs that are mysteries and work on Joe Pickett for #SIAM. The yarn I chose for this sweater has turned out to be horribly tangly and also has knots in it. I’m not pleased with it.
Monday, I wrote some reviews. My daughter changed up our plans this week so I reworked the menu plan. She has a project due this week for school. Now she decided it is going well and she wants to go ahead with the plans for tomorrow. I got a couple balls of yarns ready to go but several more to wind.
Tuesday, I woke a little early for a bigger day of errands. And no water. I have jugs of distilled water. I filled some tumblers with ice to melt for water. I did some usual stuff and then it came on so I quick showered and we took off on our errands. First we went to a parking lot for my daughter to practice driving. She has gotten out of practice since we just have the one car and I do all the driving. She’s never been that interested in driving. Afterward, we stopped at the Asian market, Trader Joe’s and Papa Murphy’s. Then we went to Wendy’s to use the keytag for a free junior Frosty. They have a new thing, Frosty swirls, where they mix in chocolate, strawberry or caramel swirls. My daughter got a vanilla with caramel Frosty swirl. They seem pretty good. After lunch and some chores, we went to walk Lulu. We ran into the neighbor and Abbey in the driveway and all had a nice walk, although it was very windy. We got a notice from the City which meant we should boil water. Nice after we’ve been using it for 7 hours.
Wednesday, I stayed up really late reading. So I didn’t get up too early. I boiled water in a big pot to use for washing produce and such. We put more bottled water in the fridge to drink until the advisory is over. I’m drinking mostly hot tea where the water is always boiled so that isn’t extra work. After dinner, we got a text that the water advisory was over. I dumped all the ice and ran lots of water through the fridge.
Thursday, I slept well which was the plan because I have lots I want to do. I picked spinach to put in my eggs. I did the usual stuff and then went out to mow the lawn. Unfortunately, I hadn’t charged the second battery. So after I used up the first, I went in to eat a late lunch and then my daughter and I walked Lulu. Next we thinned the lettuce using the space where the broccoli had been. I watered the garden. Then I finished mowing the yard.
Friday, I picked more spinach and tonight lettuce for a salad with dinner. I wrote some reviews, then I did some blog visiting. I had started the dishwasher and was getting the washer ready to go and no water again. UGH.
Saturday, I stayed up very late reading. My books are so good lately. I boiled more water this morning. I wrote some reviews. We walked Lulu. Then I picked chard for dinner and watered the garden. I made a batch of Lulu food.
How do I do it?
I have authors or series that I tend to read in a certain format. I read ARCs really in just audiobook or ebook these days, so all digital format. But sometimes I am offered one format or the other or both. There are times I know I want the audio format but very early I am offered the ebook. Do I take it and then add the audio format later? I don’t always know if I’ll be able to get the audio, so I lean towards getting the eARC. But is it wrong to get both formats?
If you have any tips for me, please comment.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My grateful thanks to Macmillan Audio, Ace Books, Berkley.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
NONE.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
Chirp Friday freebies:
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

I often get a arc fantasy in ebook but also in audio. I often read along as I listen. The ebook helps with spelling of names, cities, etc.
Thank you. yes I have done that more recently if there are likely to be issues for me with spelling and pronunciation.
Oh! The Keeper of Magical Things got my attention immediately. Adding it to the list 😉 I can’t really get in to audio books (I tend to forget I’m listening and leave it to do something else), so I read my kindle in bed (where the light isn’t good enough for a print book) and a print book usually gets carried with me during the day. Hope your water situation is better soon! Happy easter 🙂
Thanks Becki. They notified us a 9:28pm that the water was ok. I really enjoyed the first book Teller of Small Fortunes so I wanted to read another book. I don’t think the two books are related at all.
I’m excited for Julie Leong’s next book too. I love how big your lettuces are getting! Sorry to hear about the water, did you ever hear why it kept going off?
Hope you have a good week😁
yes! I saw that book and had to have it. I loved her Teller of Small Fortunes. There’s construction of new utility lines just south of us and I think that is how the water lines keep getting broken. They did notify us it is fine last night 9:28pm I’m glad we don’t have to worry about it on Easter.
Look at cutie Lulu💜 I don’t see anything wrong with getting both digital formats of the same book, especially if you’re used to switching back and forth. Publishers also don’t seem to mind. Sometimes they will also send me the print version.
Have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Jonetta. I didn’t want to be too greedy about getting so many ARCs. I sometimes go back and forth especially for spelling and pronunciation issues. But also if I’m not grasping things, the ebook will hold me into the audio in that case.
Having no water is so annoying! We never realize how important some things we take for granted truly are.
Water and power are both tough to have down for a long time period.
So annoying about the water!
I see a lot of people putting spinach in their eggs. I haven’t tried it, yet.
yes I really like the fresh spinach in my eggs. I don’t even tear it up into very small pieces and I don’t cook it too much. I do use a little shredded cheddar too. I really didn’t like having the water go out the second time in one week.
Having to boil water sucks. It has happened a few times to us. And there are times when I do request both. I don’t want to pass on the ebook in case they never offer audio arcs. If they do, I snag that too and review both. Have a great week!
Thank you Samantha. I feel kinda greedy when I take both but I don’t want to pass on the ebook and then not get the audio.
I didn’t get my drivers license until I was 23. Before that I wasn’t interested. Happy Easter
Happy Easter Mary! I got my license on the very day I turned 16. I lived in a small rural community and my parents were tired of driving me places. lol. The closest town with movies or restaurants or shopping was 10 miles away, and I took piano lessons and college classes in a town 35 miles away. My daughter has lived in cities with a bit more public transportation but mostly had me to do the driving.
I’m sorry about the water situation. How annoying. I hope you enjoy your books. Have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. It was mostly annoying because it was twice in the same week. I don’t think it has happened before in the 6 years I have lived here. And with the Easter holiday this weekend.
How frustrating for you to have on and off again water! I hope this gets resolved soon. Nice that you are harvesting from the garden.
Thank you Jodie. They texted the advisory ended at 9:28pm last night but I was annoyed that we had to boil water multiple days with two outages in one week. It hasn’t happened before in the 6 years we have been in this house. I love having the garden produce.
Happy Easter, Anne! Glad your Easter basket held some running water. 🙂 After intermittent all week, that can be a good thing. Cute Lulu pic. The spinach and eggs sound good. My beans are sprouting, but I’m still keeping it all inside until we get into May and more certain temps and weather. Way to go getting through this month’s arcs and so many reviews.
I get weird about trying to only take one or the other review format for books, but occasionally when I really wanted the audio, but was afraid it wouldn’t be offered, I accepted the eARC first. I don’t think publishers/marketers mind so long as reviews are posted for both editions.
have a good week!
Thanks Sophia. It’s always so hard waiting long enough to plant. We are past the frost date so I’ll be planting tomatoes, peppers and things like green beans and zucchini soon. Well I have to wait for the spinach and lettuce to finish before the last 2 though. So far it’s a good garden year.
I think it’s easier to go without power than water. What a bummer! We have a well, but need electricity to get water. We have a generator so it’s a non-issue. Your spinach has come up quickly! Ours is still pretty small. I like to have an audio and e-copy so don’t feel bad for having both. I’ll go back and forth at times.
Thanks Rachel. I don’t want to be to grabby with the ARCs. Power and water are both things that aren’t fun to lose. I had a well in MN so I know how that works but we did not have a generator. I hope the construction doesn’t cut the water again this week. I could eat that spinach every day!
I think I saw that your water is back on? I hope that is right! I think it’s perfectly fine to get both versions of the book.
Your spinach looks great! I planted lettuce so we will see if it comes up. Knock on wood no freeze warnings on the horizon.
Thanks Victoria. Yes the water was back on pretty quickly, about an hour. But then it was boil water until notified. The boil water thing is a nuisance but certainly better than no water at all. ok I just realized I didn’t post a picture of the spinach this week. That is swiss chard, lettuce, beets, carrots and a bit more swiss chard. But I do have spinach I am eating as often as possible too. We are past the last freeze date here now although the weather has been very weird this year.
Hmm, I’d say I’d normally only get a copy in the format I prefer to read it, unless both are available at once and they’re OK with giving me both, buuuut I’d probably be willing to stretch that point and jump on it if a favourite author/much anticipated new book in a series/etc was involved. 🤔
Thanks for your insights, Nicky.
What the heck is going on with your water? That’s crazy and I can’t believe you got the boil advisory 7 hours late. I love seeing Lulu and she looks so happy in the picture. Is your daughter taking her test soon or does she already have her license and is just not using it much? Hope you have a wonderful week and of course, get to some great books!
Thanks Barb. I’m hoping for a dull week with water. My daughter has her license. She just hasn’t driven much in NC. I will say MN had wide shoulders, flat roads with long sight lines which probably made it easier. But she has never had a car and I did her driving here.
My daughter (19) doesn’t have her license and hasn’t driven since she was 15 during the classes. We discussed going to a driving program that specializes in accessibility issues and looks to see if she will need accommodations. She said she’d think about it.
Rarely do I get both an ebook and audiobook ARC – when I do, I am sure to post the eARC review on NG and the audiobook on my blog. If it’s in a series I’ve already started in a specific format, I wait for that format – which means a lot of times people are reading Mercy Thompson before me LOL! If for some reason the ARC doesn’t come out in the format I prefer, I just purchase the book. I don’t tend to get two versions because I know I won’t necessarily read and review both versions.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jen. My daughter has her license she just hasn’t driven much in NC because I do. But as she gets healthier she may want to do things. If she was using the car, I could always ride the Harley.
Sounds like a full week were you got a lot done. That sounds annoying having to boil your water, such a hassle to have to do that for all the water you use. I hope that’s over soon. I like seeing pictures of your garden, maybe in our next house we’ll have a garden too, we only have a small balcony now.
Thanks Lola. It was annoying and particularly since it happened two times last week. So far this week has been normal.
That’s nice you grow your own veggies like that. I’ve always wanted to but never get around to it. Glad the water advisory is over. Lulu!
Thank you Naida. I’ve always liked having a garden. My grandma and my mom did. Although Mom stopped sometime after my brother was born. I had one in high school when I was in 4H.
Not sure if we’re doing a garden this year
I’m always planning all winter on what I will have. Our first season of cool crops will be over in the next month. Right now we are getting into the warm season.
I am glad the water situation has been resolved. What a relief that must be! It looks like your garden is doing well! We spent Easter at my mom’s and seeing the birds, a bunny, and a squirrel enjoying her bird feeder outside had me in the mood to get a similar bird feeder for our yard. I bet the cats and I would enjoy watching the birds feed (I doubt we’ll have rabbits or squirrels). My hummingbird feeder wasn’t very popular, but that could be a location issue.
I can’t really speak to getting both arc’s in audio and e-book formats as I really only get them in e-book format. I have, however, recently started checking out from the library or even occasionally purchasing an audiobook of a print book I already own for a book club, especially if I am short on time and think I can get through it faster that way. It’s not ideal for me because I retain more when I read it than I do when I listen, but it’s been working for me. That doesn’t help you at all though!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the ARCs Wendy. The garden is doing well and I’m glad to have no water issues this week so far.
That picture of Lulu is adorable! Did you say why the water kept being off? That sucks! I tend to take ebook ARCs over audiobooks unless I get the audio really early because since I only listen to audiobooks in the car driving, it takes me longer to get through them. I hadn’t seen the Wendy’s swirl thing. I’ll need to go check that out! I found the Burger King mozzarella fries this past week from their latest tv ads and now I’m obsessed with those. Hope you got your water back this week!
Thanks Lisa. The water was only out about an hour each time but then we had to boil water for the next 24-48 hours in case of contamination. Lulu loves her walks and carries her own poop bags.
So glad the water situation didn’t last too long but how frustrating! The times we’ve lost water have always been when I realized just how often I use water! My neighbor had some extra tomato plants so I let him plant them in one of my raised beds and am going to try to maintain them. I do love fresh tomatoes but let’s see how well I do with it. It’s been awhile since I’ve done any gardening. Hope you’re having a great week!
Thank you Katherine. The water thing was frustrating. Having to boil it the next day or so because of possible contamination was just another time user. The most important tip I can give you for tomatoes is to put a cage around them for support. I did that last year and had the best tomato crop (and same for green peppers) I have ever had.
