The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar. Clean Sweep Giveaway ends tonight!
Sunday, a pleasant start with no barking. I did the usual blog visiting. My eyes are runny / itchy with a little allergy effect and my nose a bit too this morning. We had a good group for the Chat on Clean Sweep. It as about half and half people who had read it before and who it was the very first time. We walked Lulu, then I mowed the back yard and did some weeding.
Monday, when I took Lulu out I finished taking out the snow pea plant and pulled more weeds. I removed 2 of the lettuce plants which are finished and have only one left. Tomorrow will be 5-10 degrees cooler so I will mow the front, harvest more of the cool crops and get the last tomato planted and maybe some other warm crops seeded. More of the daylilies are blooming! We walked Lulu at midday before it got too hot. My daughter helped me get ready for the Democratic meeting by polishing my toenails. We went to the Garner Dems get together. It was fun as I got to see many elected people who represent our area. The group is going to meet on the third Monday of the month. Our town is having municipal elections this year. I got to meet and talk to a candidate and learn more about existing town council members. Most exciting for me was meeting Blair Reeves who is head of Carolina Forward and does some great videos on various issues. The bar is dog friendly so next time we could even bring Lulu.
Tuesday, today is cooler than yesterday and tomorrow so I need to get out and do the yard work. I went out to put the weed n feed in the back yard. I pulled weeds and picked more carrots. I finally planted the tomato plant and marigold. We walked Lulu. I made another batch of Lulu food because the food I made earlier in the week I accidentally left out on the counter overnight. UGH. I started the grill and put on the chicken and veggies, then when I went back to check the grill was off, the tank was empty. So then I had to swap out tanks.
Wednesday, it already seems hot. We walked Lulu midday. The referral the doctor gave for an ENT doesn’t take our insurance so we called a couple from the insurance website and the earliest appt we could get was June 10. In the afternoon, Lulu had her annual checkup. Then we stopped at Aldi for a couple items. I chased a squirrel away from the garden that was near the new tomato plant and watered everything a bit.
Thursday, the spinach is starting to finish so I picked some for breakfast. I wrote a few reviews. My daughter’s medications arrived which was a relief. It was a comfortable day working on various tasks. We walked Lulu. I prepared for garden things tomorrow. I picked more of the lettuce which is nearly finished.
Friday, when I took Lulu out I opened the gate and Marley raced through the yard to say hello. She didn’t even stop for any pets! After lunch, my daughter helped me bend my cattle panels. I used my older taller ones to plant pole beans where the lettuce used to be. The beets will be done soon and I’ll put zucchini there. We walked Lulu. It’s a bit windy and so nicely cool.
Saturday, Marley did another zoom and sniff when we went out this morning. I managed to get up and going in time for the Democratic convention. I watched the elections and the resolutions. Then I did the typical blog visiting and preparing posts. I’m doing some little chores. We walked Lulu and it’s so nice outside.
This next week is going to be really nice in the 70s (23-24C) with some rain later in the week.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My grateful thanks to Tantor Audio, Brilliance Audio, Harlequin Audio, Harper Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I bought this one for $1.99 since I owned the Kindle version (got as a freebie).
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
Chirp Friday freebies:
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Our weather is in the 70s too, its absolutely perfect weather right now and I wish it would stay that way. I loved The Naturalist and the rest of the books in that series! Have a good week😁
Thanks Tammy. I am a huge Andrew Mayne fan. The more I read the more I like his books. This weather is exactly what I want, cooler and a little rain. But I think with June we will go up to 90s.
Your lilies are beautiful – and yes… staying in the 70s would be perfect:). It’s got cooler here again, we’re in the 50s today and we have a strong easterly wind so it’s got a chilly edge. But we had lots of rain last night which we’re desperate for. Have a great week, Anne:)).
Thank you Sarah. I don’t mind 50s but I’m enjoying the 70s with rain a couple times a week. We needed rain before this last couple months. I think we go back to the 90s for June.
Can you point me to the dog food recipe you are using? Also, I can’t resist freebies either. 😀
Olivia, I don’t use a recipe from anywhere I made my own. I started by using some from the BalanceIt site my vet recommended for the vitamins I put in at the end. I use one boil in bag brown rice, one 12-16oz bag of 4 vegetable mis (frozen), one 12-16oz bag of frozen green veggie (green beans, broccoli, kale or spinach) and either one pound ground turkey or the meat from 5-6 baked chicken thighs. I tried eggs for the protein but she didn’t like that, back when eggs were cheap. I could use beef or something but all of those are more expensive and less lean usually. I just stir the 4 ingredients in the big pan cooking then cooling a bit and adding the BalanceIt vitamins. For her size I make up 8oz containers and store them in the freezer. I sometimes add things like sweet potatoes or other leftover veggies. We had a lot of bell peppers last year so I used some. They can’t have onions or garlic, and she hates mushrooms.
Thanks so much, Anne! I really appreciate it. My pup has a temperamental tummy and is picky too. The vet pointed us to Royal Canin, but I can no longer get what he likes. So it just seems easier to make his dog food myself at this point.
The way I do it is very easy and flexible and much less expensive than the food you buy. I just change out the meat and the green veg to the ones she likes and leave the rice and 4veg mix the same. You could also use beans and sweet potatoes, in addition or instead of rice. The website for the vitamins has recipe options also. I make a batch at least once a week. Each batch is 5-8 servings depending on what I use in it. If your dog is bigger than mine you might have to make a bigger batch for bigger portions. Lulu is 18 pounds and gets about 500 calories a day.
Valentino is 7 pounds. 😀
Ooh, I had to go get one of the freebies! Those flowers are pretty. Sounds like a pretty nice week! We’ve had the cooler temps and I’m happy with those, the really hot times are not my favorites. Hope you have a good week!
yes this week we will get more cool and some rain but I fear the 90s are coming.
Sounded like a lovely week of steady tasks and events. One needs those kind of weeks to recharge. I was planning to put my veggie garden seedlings in, but our temps are still flirting with with frost in the pre-dawn and not really warming up during the day, but some of the cool temp plants like the strawberries, lettuce and beans are doing well.
Yay for getting Her First Mistake and others in the haul.
Have a good week and a Happy Memorial Day, Anne!
Thank you Sophia. Enjoy your Memorial Day holiday! I’m glad to have all but my zucchini for warm crops in and enjoying my cool crops with some nearly finished. Lettuce and broccoli and chard do well with really cool temps. I’m enjoying staying home and just doing things. I think it’s going to rain the next 3 days so I should probably finish the trimming and edging today if I can get myself out.
Meeting candidates for municipal elections seems very interesting Anne!
It is. I’ve never been interested in politics. Things are very bad here so I need to learn more. I always voted but now I keep up with all the daily things going on in government, congress and legal cases. It’s too much but I need to know more.
Sounds like a busy week. I would like to grow veg. We have a few bits but they die. It doesn’t help that we have the tiniest garden imaginable and it is concrete. To get a lawn we have covered the concrete in AstroTurf. It is softer than our carpet indoors. The only downside is that it gets so hot, much hotter than grass would get.
Have a great week and enjoy all your books.

lol at Marley making a beeline right past you to meet up with Lulu.
Marley does always say hi to Lulu but she usually stops to get petting from me too.
Thanks Emily. I love having a garden both veggies and flowers. I grew up in a rural community and my grandparents had a farm and my parents often had a garden.
Sounds like a good week 🙂 They just announced that registration opens for our adult battle of the books next weekend, so I’ll actually be buying some books soon!
Thanks Becki. We are doing fine. There’s always more I think I should be doing.
It sounds like you can grow a variety of plants throughout the growing season – such a great use of valuable space. Have a great week.
I made sure to buy a house with a good fenced in yard for the dog we got (Lulu) and setup a garden the first year. I’ve gone from 2 beds to 5 beds and they are all raised beds now.
We had some cold days this past week here! On Thursday, the high was 58! I wore a sweatshirt for the last day of school! I love that you are so involved in local and national politics!
Thanks Samantha. I love the cooler weather and even a bit of rain’ it’s nice for the garden. I’ve never been interested in politics much but now I want to make a difference so I need to keep informed and assist good people when I can.
It’s cooled down a bit here after being unseasonably hot, and it’s such a relief. I’m not made for higher temperatures, haha (even though I know the UK usually doesn’t get nearly as hot as a lot of other places suffer, still, we also don’t have air conditioning in private homes most of the time). Hope your good weather lasts. 😀
And hope you have a good reading week!
Thank you Nicky. One reason I chose to move here about 10 years ago is because it is warmer than Minnesota but also has a smaller range of temperatures. This is Fahrenheit but in Minnesota the temps were from -40 to 110. In North Carolina, it is about 10-105 but usually 20-95. So I like that smaller span.
It’s already too hot here. Sounds like you have a pretty good week.
Thank you Mary. It was pretty good especially since the weather hasn’t gotten so hot yet. But it’s coming.
I feel like it has done nothing but rain all month. It’s kept things from getting too hot though you can basically feel the humidity! At this point I’ll be glad for heat if it means it’s quit raining! Though I’m sure I’ll change my mind in August or so after a few months of crazy heat. The Jill Shalvis is on my TBR. I can’t wait to read it. I hope you’re having a great week!
Thanks Katherine. I think I prefer the rain the way it is here when it mostly rains late afternoon and evening and means I don’t have to water the garden or lawn.
*squeezes puppy*
She’s the best!
It’s so cool that you have a garden! I loved growing vegetables, but I’m too busy in the summers now to take care of a garden. Someday I’ll get back to it. I hope you’re having a great week.
Thanks. I love the garden and it doesn’t take that much work really. The planning which is done in the winter is the time consuming part.
I did have fun on the chat. I need to check the date on the next one. I may be out of town. Sounds like your garden is doing well. I need to do a bunch of trimming. My cilantro, carrots and arugula are flowering. It’s crazy how fast they grow. My tomatoes are flowering and we have a couple on the vine.
I’m trying to catch up. I’ve been in Montana for a week. Just got back yesterday.
Thanks Rachel. I always love having you on the chat. The next one is June 22 the week after Father’s Day. My green beans just poked up and I only planted then a few days ago. But we’ve had nice rain. I’m not looking forward to the hot next week.
Oh, I’m way behind on my blog visits. The democratic event at the bar sounds like it was a good time – love that you could bring Lulu. My week so far has been busy with work and getting chores done. It went by quick with the Monday holiday.
I’m trying to hang in there on visits but some days I don’t know where the time goes.
