When once-renowned police detective Julia Torgrimsen is brought out of forced retirement to investigate the murder of Bruno Donaldson, a billionaire she worked with whilst undercover, she doesn’t expect to find two bodies. Both are Bruno—identical down to the fingerprints—and both have been shot.
As the investigation sucks her back into the macabre world of London’s rich elite, she finds herself on the hunt for a mysterious assassin who has been taking out the wealthy one by one. But when she finally catches up with her quarry, she unveils an entire world of impossible documents about future stock market crashes, photographs of dead clones, and a clandestine time-traveling conspiracy so insidious it might just mean the extinction of the entire human race.
If Julia is to have any chance of preventing this terrible future, she’ll have to revisit her own past, the terrible choices she made undercover, and the brutal act that destroyed her once legendary career.
I saw Extremity on Tammy’s blog and wanted to read it. Sci Fi is a favorite genre and yet I don’t read it very often. I do have a lot of owned books in the genre and hope to read more of them in the upcoming year.
Time travel isn’t usually a favorite thing for me. Here it is an interesting part of the plot. The wealthy are traveling forward in time to be able to know stock prices or other happenings to make themselves even richer. The public or others in general, don’t know about this.
Then one day, one of the wealthy guys shows up dead, two of him. The case is the police trying to figure out what is happening. Julia is a retired police detective who was undercover with these guys for six years and knows them. She is quick to know who to interview and where to go.  A young, green cop gets into the fray and learns a lot.
We get the points of view in different sections, changing from Julia, her old partner, and the young cop. The characters are understandable. I really liked Julia. Also I want to bat the young cop on the back of the head a few times (like Gibbs with Tony).
Extremity is fast paced. It’s horrifying and yet fascinating. I love the tech aspects and the murder mysteries.  I enjoyed it!
Narration:
I hadn’t heard this narrator previously but I enjoyed her performance. It was easy listening with the main characters being distinguishable, having sections of their point of view.

I don’t read a lot of sci-fi and am wary of time travel but this sounds good. Great review, Anne💜
Thanks Jonetta. It’s a police procedural at heart.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I liked Julia a lot too, it’s always nice to see older characters in lead roles.
Thanks Tammy. I hate how Julia suffered with her choices. She wasn’t in a great situation. Also she was sharp as a tack on the new issue.
Horrifying yet fascinating sounds fun, but I don’t read a lot of Science Fiction. I’ve enjoyed a few but it’s not my go-to genre. I’m glad you liked this one!
It’s mostly a police procedural but with some fascinating characters and some scifi aspects.
Sci-fi is a genre I enjoy but don’t read as often as I’d like. I’ll keep this one in mind!
This might be a good choice Rachel as it is short, fast-paced and somewhat more a police procedural.
I’m super, duper picky on time travel stuff.
I would say I don’t like time travel stories at all but probably I am just picky too. I am reading a few good ones like this.
I feel like this is the second review of yours I’ve read today where you mentioned you don’t like time travel, but it worked in the story. I keep finding myself reading books with things I normally don’t like either. Great review though!
yes I’ve read a few recently and enjoyed them so maybe I’m just picky about time travel stories or it just has to be a good book for me to enjoy time travel. Rather maybe the criteria is whether it’s a good story not the time travel.
