In the crisp mountain air of central Oregon, a teenage girl’s search for discarded cans leads to a horrifying a body, brutally murdered and abandoned in the woods. The case falls to Deschutes County Detective Noelle Marshall, who finds herself navigating a community steeped in secrets, suspicion, and distrust of outsiders—especially law enforcement.
Miles away, FBI Special Agent Max Rhodes investigates a different kind of darkness—chatter about a violent uprising from a shadowy militia group preparing for war. The two cases seem worlds apart. But as Noelle digs into the murdered man’s past and Max closes in on the source of the terror plot, their paths begin to converge in a terrifying way. This was no random killing. It was a message. A merciless killer and a hidden army are operating in the same shadows, and finding the link between them is the only thing standing between a single murder and a full-blown massacre.
The Noelle Marshall series in the same world as at least two other series. She works with Evan Bolton from the Columbia River series, which is a mix of stories utilizing characters from some of the author’s other series or supporting characters. Noelle was in a book as a side character. Mercy Kilpatrick is in this book, of the Mercy Kilpatrick series.
A teen searching for cans, discovers a body and Noelle is working that case. She is worried about the teen, Emma, who doesn’t look well nourished. Luckily, the sheriff’s department has help for her. Emma has some rough guys turn up and she runs to a neighbor, Uncle Tommy, who is an old friend of her dad’s.
Max is now in the area, working with Mercy in the FBI. A judge has his car targeted and a dead body placed in the trunk. They are also investigating rumors about a militia group, possibly planning a big event.
As more bodies turn up, the witnesses talk about their connection with a group of discontented white men. The previous leader of the group was Mac and they hear he is back. Noelle and Max go to check on Emma and find her and Uncle Tommy missing, and figure out her dad is missing, too. Their cases may be connecting.
They race to find Emma and to know what event may be targeted. Once they think they know, they need a team to try to prevent mass casualties. No One Knew is a dangerous and exciting effort to save people. Noelle and Max are also more in a relationship where we get to know them a little more personally.
Narration:
I am comfortable with the narrator and she is Noelle for me now. She has over 300 audiobooks on Audible. Many are Graphic audio with full casts. I was very comfortable with her voices with the females higher and a bit sharp, and the males lower and more flat toned. The performance allowed me to enjoy the story. I listened at 1.75x speed.

This sounds so good. I love when authors do cross over characters from their different series. Thanks for sharing!
This author has a big world with plenty of character crossovers.
I’m loving this series. Listening to this now with only an hour to go. This region explains a lot about the mood of these so called “discontented” men. Glad you’re enjoying this, too, Anne💜
Thanks Jonetta. I’ve really enjoyed all her books.
I love this author and am very much looking forward to reading this one this year. 😀
I hope you enjoy this one too.
Kendra Elliot is on my must read author list for 2026. I’m glad to know the audio really works.
Elliot is a must read author for me. I hope you enjoy her.
Glad this one was enjoyable for you! I am always so impressed with narrators and how many books they’ve done.
PS: I didn’t realize I wasn’t officially following you before, but I am now. 🙂
Thank you Lindsi. It is incredible the work of narrators. I don’t know how they do it but I appreciate the results.
This sounds like a good one, I like romantic suspense.
Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres.
I need to start this series! I like this narrator, too. I’m currently sitting in Salt Lake City, UT airport (layover from Missoula, MT) waiting for our flight home. I’m tired! I’ll be catching up on posts and reading. Didn’t get much time to do any of that with family.
I really enjoy this author. I hope you had a great trip.
“has over 300 audiobooks on Audible” holy cannoli batman!!!!!
yes it’s shocking how many audiobooks one narrator can perform.
