Divorce attorney Harper James can't catch a break. Bad enough that she runs into her ex-hubby, Nick, at her sister's destination wedding, but now, by a cruel twist of fate, she's being forced to make a cross-country road trip with him. And her almost-fiance back at home is not likely to be sympathetic.
Harper can't help that Nick has come blazing back into her life in all of his frustratingly appealing, gorgeous architect glory. But in Nick's eyes, Harper's always been the one. If they can only get it right this time, forever might be waiting--just around the bend.
My One and Only has been available in other formats but just recently became available in audio format. I am a new but big fan of audiobooks. The narrator, Xe Sands. was very enjoyable. I liked the intonation and flavor she gave to the different characters. Kristan Higgins is an author I like. This book may be part of a series but I haven’t found the rest.
There is insight here into human relationships and marriage issues masquerading behind romantic comedy and quirky characters. The main characters Harper and Nick were once married. They are smart, hard-working and compassionate people. They married at a very young age with problematic family pasts which fueled the fire for their divorce.
Now they meet again at an extended family destination wedding, and end up on a road trip. This gives them a chance to remember their good and bad moments and revisit their issues and pleasures with each other. Their families provide additional fodder for what is or isn’t important in relationships. A nice stand alone with interesting characters and thought-provoking concepts. It also has some humorous parts. Recommended.
Giggle-worthy quote:
“’ Do or do not. There is no try,’” she intoned.
“Who said that? Winston Churchill?”
“Yoda. Please. I have four sons. Star Wars is my life.”
“So now the Muppets are giving me advice?”
“Count your blessings. It could be TeleTubbies.”

I love Xe! I first listened to her do the narration on the urban fantasy series, Dreg City by Kelly Meding.
