Karmen’s life has been anything but easy. After growing up without anyone who loved her, she finally has the quiet simple life she’s always wanted.
At least it was simple until she gave into Nickel, a member of the local MC, who had been chasing her for months.

Will Nickel be everything Karmen has wanted, or will her past come back to haunt her, ruining everything?

I’ve only read a couple motorcycle club books and I was feeling really nostalgic about my favorite MC series so I picked this up.  Right away, I could tell it wasn’t going to really work for me. Alphas either work or they don’t and there is no in-between in my world.

The good….it is always best to start with the good.  Overall, Nickel and Karmen are cute together. They have a few fun scenes playing with one another and the dialogue in the book could be cute at times.

My favorite story in the story was how Nickel ended up with his nickname.  I liked that he visited his grandmother for a year and every time he was there he tried to catch Karmen’s attention.

There are a few solid sex scenes that come relatively fast but were hot.

The bad….there was a lot for me.  I didn’t fall in love with Nickel’s alpha side.  It totally rubbed me the wrong way. One minute, he is a sweet charming guy and then he is yelling at some guy because he tripped on their blanket while they were making out.  He ran so hot and cold and I had almost zero context on why. There was little to no backstory on him and once he started dating Karmen, I don’t think  his grandmother he went to see every week was mentioned again.

Everything moved so fast.  There was the date, the sex, more sex and then bam theywere together and I’m gonna put a baby in your belly.  There was a ridiculously short time between any of that to go from 0 to baby. If Nickel had some deep need for family I didn’t get enough backstory to feel it.

There wasn’t much tension in the story either.  I didn’t get why Karmen cut her dad out so completely.  On page 1 she knows how messed up he is with the drinking and such but she still loved him.  But as an adult she has no contact with him and is hiding from him. He did a horrible thing over a decade ago and she won’t even talk to him.  I didn’t get why she pushed him so completely out of her life. Or why it was such a big deal when he called her. Her reactions seemed so extreme.

Nickel had some good moments but the characters really needed to be fleshed out a little better and maybe have longer than a month together before the baby talk happened.  To be honest, I rarely like baby talk in one of my one handed reads.

Narration:

This was a solid audio performance, not outstanding but not bad. I always like it when the male and female PoVs have different narrators.  Paul Brion captured the timbre I expected Nickel’s voice to have.

Sounds under-developed all around, but glad there were some highlights to the story as well.

    • Yeah it seems like some of the Authors other stories were better received so this just might be a one of.

hmm not sure about this one I confess. But I love MC novels, they’re fun!

    • I’ve only really read The Chaos series by Kristen Ashley. I’d totally be up for trying one that you liked though. I’m looking for another one.

    • Kristen Ashley wrote the Chaos series and I really enjoyed that but I haven’t found another I like. But Kristen Ashley seems to break all the rules I generally have for romance writers and I still love her books so *shrugs* I don’t know there might be another MC Club series out there for me.
