A sexy and intense prequel to the Edge Series.
There’s a war going on.
You need to pay attention to your job, not the surgeon. Not his sky-blue eyes or the confidence in his hands. Not the smile under his mask or the way it fits on his jaw.

Eight days of casualties. Eight days of hell.
Then you are the casualty.
You are the one he’s standing over. The one who can save you.
And as sure as the sky stretches from horizon to horizon, you love him.
But this is a war, and love doesn’t blossom in a war. Not without sacrifice.

Although, I own an audiobook by this author also,  Cutting Edge is the first work I have read. The story is totally not what I expected and totally great.  Let me just say, this is how to write a shorter book, or a prequel. Wow.

There was enough detail about the world and the characters without getting too much. I was able to connect to the characters even though I have never been in their situation or career.  They are both doctors, in the military. They meet just before several days of casualties pouring into their makeshift hospital.

There are feels on all ends of the spectrum. War provides plenty of action and suspense. While there is loss and grief, there is also caring and compassion.  There is even a bit of sexy times. My emotions got yanked up and down and all around.  I want to read more of this Edge series!

Thrifty Thursday is only Kindle freebies I get, or ones through author newsletters which anyone can sign up and get for free. I don’t include things like Kindle Unlimited or Prime Free Reading (I do have it). Both Tantor and Audible have occasional free audios (to anyone) and I do include those.  Since I one-click on 1-2 freebies a day or probably at least 5 a week, I came up with this feature to make sure I start reading them.

So I have thought about doing a Thrifty Thursday Challenge someday. For now,  what I think would be fun is if you have read and reviewed  a freebie, link up to your review (Goodreads, blog, facebook or wherever) below.

About CD Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

  1. That is always wonderful to come across a prequel that ticks off all the boxes, especially development, and building anticipation for the rest of the series.
