This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.
The genre here, by my definition, is a series which I discovered and first read in 2019. Oddly, I have read most of these on audio. I am happy to have a variety of genres here: urban fantasy, mystery, thriller, historical mystery, and fantasy.
I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite New (to me) series in 2019 are (in no particular order):
Grant County series Alex Verus series Tracey Crosswhite series
by Karin Slaughter by Benedict Jacka by Robert Dugoni
Lady Sherlock series Guild Codex series His Fair Assassin series
by Sherry Thomas by Annette Marie by Robin LaFevers
What are your favorite series?
Vote for your top 3 favorites! You can vote for my favorites or add favorites of your own. Please tell us your top three (or top 1 or 2) in your comments. Remember this vote is how the winning option is chosen for the giveaway.
Then enter the giveaway below. The winner will get the first book in the winning series! Open to anyone who can receive an Amazon digital ebook.

I love Lady Sherlock – I discovered it last year, I think. New to me this year that I loved: Dark Court Rising series by Bec McMaster; League of Extraordinary Women by Evie Dunmore; The Harwood Spellbook by Stephanie Burgis.
All exciting choices. This month is weird because everyone will discover different things but that is what makes it fun. These are the favorite things I discovered but I love hearing about your finds!
I was just thinking of doing a post about all my new to me series that I started and/or completed in 2019. Great minds and all that.
I’ve read/listened to and loved both the Lady Sherlock and His Fair Assassin series you have up there.
Here are mine: Flavia de Luce by Alan Bradley (historical mysteries), The Others by Anne Bishop (UF), Mercy Kilpatrick by Kendra Elliot (RS), the Bedwyn Saga by Mary Balogh (HR), Servant of the Crown by Denise Domning (Historical Mystery), Beechwood Harbor Magic and Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries by Danielle Garrett, Hudson Valley by Alice Clayton (CR), Twin Hearts by AM Johnson (NA), Death and the Devil by LJ Hayward (M/M RS), Fallen Angels by JR Ward (PNR), Burning Cove by Amanda Quick (Historical RS), Final Hour by Juno Rushdan (RS), FBI Psychics by Shiloh Walker, Lifelike by Jay Kristoff (YA), A Very English Mystery by Elizabeth Edmondsen (His My), Lizzie Harwicke by Georgina Clark (His My), Kurland St. Mary Mystery by Catherine Lloyd (H-My), The Lone Stars by Katie Graykowski (CR), Medicus Investigation by Ruth Downie (His- My), Will Fain US Marshall by RO Lane (west), and Silver Springs by Brenda Novak (CR).
A bit heavy on historical mystery series, but that’s my jam. 🙂
Oh I see some real winners in your list! I did this last year also. It’s my December SoS to share the new series I discovered that year. I always seem to have plenty! But I love hearing about the ones others found.
I especially enjoy The Others, Mercy Kilpatrick, the two Danielle Garrett series, Silver Springs, which I’ve read and actually discovered before this year. I would like to look into the FBI Psychics and Lifelike, at a minimum from your list. Thanks for sharing!
Love your choices, Anne! I really want to read more from the Slaughter series, try the Dugoni series, and I love the Sherry Thomas series!
Well obviously I loved them even though I just discovered them this year. Actually all 3 of those have been around much before this year. I don’t know how I missed them for so long. They’re amazing!
Great choices, Anne? I so love Slaughter and want to start Dugoni’s series. I recently started the Victorian Rebels series by Kerrigan Byrne and loved it. Also, Kaylea Cross’s Hostage Rescue Team, Lisa Clark O’Neill’s Sweetwater & Allison Brennan’s Predator Trilogy, No Evil Trilogy and Prison Break Trilogy.
Thank you! These are just those discovered this year for me, even though they have been around awhile. I definitely want to read those Allison Brennan books for sure.
I love Slaughters series. Trying to think of any new series I started this year and can’t recall at the moment. I’ve mostly been trying to stay current with ones I’ve already been reading.
I have to check my Goodreads shelves to figure out which ones I started this year in some cases.
Apocalypse Five (Archive of the Fives #1) by Stacey Rourke was the first of the series that I gave a 5 star.
I don’t know that one but I am glad it was great for you.
I love the His Fair Assassin Series! I need to read her new duology.
It’s great. It has all three of our fair ladies but Sybella is more of a primary focus.
