As you will see from my list, I fall in love with a character and I stick with him even with other books in the series, where he isn’t a main character.  Fantasy / Urban Fantasy makes this easy as often it is the same guy throughout the series.  Pretty much, my choices over all aren’t typical or wise.

  1.  Will Trent from Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter
  2.  Cork O’Connor from Cork O’Connor series by William Kent Krueger
  3. Linus Lawson from Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series by Hailey Edwards
  4. Catalina Baylor from Sapphire Flames by Ilona Andrews
  5. Charlotte Holmes from Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas
  6.  Wynter Roth from The Line Between series by Tosca Lee
  7. Casey Duncan from Rockton series by Kelley Armstrong
  8. Cletus Winston from Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid
  9.  Atlee Pine from Atlee Pine series by David Baldacci
  10. Alex Verus from Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka
  11. and many of the characters Robin has chosen!

  1. M-bot – Starsight (Skyward #2) by Brandon Sanderson
  2. Ronan Lynch – Call Down the Hawk (Dreamer #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
  3. Reverend Daughter Harrowhark Nonagesimus – Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
  4. Suri – Age of Legend (Legends of the First Empire #4) by Michael J. Sullivan
  5. Luna – Fallen (Alex Verus #10) by Benedict Jacka
  6. Mr. Kindly – Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle #3) by Jay Kristoff
  7. Gifford – Age of Legend (Legends of the First Empire #4) by Michael J. Sullivan
  8. Grandma Frida – Sapphire Flames (Hidden Legacy #4) by Ilona Andrews
  9. Murderbot – Exit Strategy (The Murderbot Diaries, #4) by Martha Wells
  10. Max – Hope for the Best (The Chronicles of St Mary’s #10) by Jodi Taylor
  11. Honorable mention to DOOMSLUG from Starsight

  1. Cletus is fantastic in all the books I’ve read Anne. I hadn’t read any of the Winston brothers published this year so I didn’t put him on my list. It was so hard.

Alessandro from Sapphire Flames, Nell from Circle of the Moon, Arland or Maud from Sweep of the Blade and so many others almost made the cut.

    • I love your choices. Cletus was in both Beard with Me and Beard Necessities which I read and were published this year. He actually played a role more than a mention in them. He was also in many of the new Smartypants romance books, particularly the Donner Bakery ones which is why I chose to read them. I love Luna and Murderbot I would choose HELEN from Sweep of the Blade!

  2. I am not familiar with most of these characters, but I can agree that Charlotte Holmes is a treasure! Nice lists, ladies!

  3. I’m not familiar with any of these. My favorite characters are from Dannika Dark’s CrossBreed series. Christian, Raven, Gem, Sheppard, Niko, Blue and all the other members of the Keystone group.
