This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.
The genre here, by my definition, is a Young Adult Fantasy series (not including urban fantasy, dystopia as we will do that another month). These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others and I have not read all of these series. Robin had to help me since it is one of her favorites. The rest of the team also had some help for me.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My Young Adult Fantasy series are (in no particular order):
Great Library Throne of Glass His Fair Assassins
by Rachel Caine by Sarah J. Maas by Robin LaFevers
Legacy of Orisha Mistborn Age of Legends
by Tomi Adeyemi by Brandon Sanderson by Kelley Armstrong
What are your favorite series?

Age of Legends just draws you in, such an opening, what reader can resist libraries and books, oh so many books and mysteries and this then takes you to the mysterious mists of the Mistborn series, such a classic.
They are both favorites of our team. Robin is especially attached to this genre.
Thanks for the opportunity, my fav is by far ACOTAR, but Throne of Glass is great as well.
I own audio books from both series but have not listened to all of them yet. I really loved the ones I have though.
i always have trouble coming up with books when asked these questions, but your list sounds great to me
I am very thankful to have a team with diverse interests to help me with these. I was able to do my favorite genres for the first year or so on my own, but to keep things fresh and creative, it really helps to be part of a team. Watch for May! It’s going to be fun.
i’ll be waiting….:-)
I’ve only read one Throne of Glass novel…Besides that I haven’t read any YA fantasy. But, I did like that one!
I enjoyed that one too. Well this post can give us both ideas of other things we might want to read. Someday.
I don’t read much historical fantasy YA, but I like the ones I’ve read. His Fair Assassin series is probably my favorite.
I love that one too! I also really enjoyed the Great Library series by Rachel Caine. Those are two here where I have read the entire series, plus they are completed series.
I’ve read one and a third of those. I loved the Ink and Bone books, barely finished the first book in Kelley Armstrong’s series. I usually love her stuff so that was a huge disappointment to me.
yes I also really enjoy Kelley Armstrong. I started this one and couldn’t do it, but I am really moody right now so I will try again later. I highly recommend His Fair Assassins also.
My all time favorite urban/ fantasy YA book series. It’s gotta be Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. LOVED it. One of the few series i’ve reread and still got goose-bumps. But i will NEVER like the movie…Yuck !
Im also a HUGE fan of anything by Sarah Maas, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine. …..i own the majority of those authors already though. I’ve always wanted to try Brandon Sanderson.
Well Sanderson is Robin’s favorite favorite and she is usually spot on. I own some of this series but have yet to read it.
I feel like I read YA Fantasy but I cannot think of any that aren’t listed here. I have read the first couple of books in His Fair Assasins and the first book in the Great Library series. I do enjoy the genre!
I read some but more adult fantasy. Robin is the YA expert.
I had so many on my list it was huge.
Laini Taylor’s Strange the Dreamer is a Duology and it is AMAZING
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo aslo a Duology was fantastic.
The Seven Kingdoms by Cinda Williams Chima very well thought out 4 book series.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer also very good, the last book wasn’t my favorite but overall well done.
The Second Sons by Jennifer Fallon was very gripping for me
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor also a very well done series
Lumatere Chronicles by Malina Marchetta made me want to read anything she’d ever written. I’ve read that series 3 times.
Beyonders by Brandon Mull is also a gem and completely underrated.
I really had way too many favorites in this genre to keep it down to just a few. And don’t even get me started on YA UF that list is huge as well.
Don’t worry Robin. We will tackle YA UF as another post. But I appreciate your help with this genre.
