This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with main characters who are Park Rangers or Game Wardens. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others. The team had to help me find some of these.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite Park Ranger series are (in no particular order):
Mercy & Elvis mysteries Winston Brothers Park Ranger
by Paula Munier by Penny Reid by Daisy Prescott
Anna Pidgeon Florida Wildlife Warriors Joe Pickett
by Nevada Barr by Connie Mann by CJ Box

I confess I haven’t read many park ranger series though plenty with individual books. My mind is stuck on Logan Wilde. He’s in the Widow’s Island novellas. I have read Connie Mann books and I’ve always wanted to try Nevada Barr and Joe Picket ones. Oh, and I’ve got Susannah Sandlin’s Wilds of the Bayou series in my TBR to read at some point.
I have loved the Nevada Barr and Joe Pickett books. The Mercy & Elvis books are K9.
Paula Munier series – love Elvis
I love everything K9!
I didn’t realize there were so many park rangers series, and I’m sure there are others!
I’m always surprised when I plan these Series on Saturday themes. I have to work at some of them, since I don’t want just one book in the series but the whole book (in settings or characters).
I haven’t read any yet but do have the Penny Reid series on my shelf, dying to be read! Love the category.
There are many great series here. I’ve read the Nevada Barr ones originally probably 30 years ago. The Mercy & Elvis is a K9. I’ve just started the CJ Box series and apparently it has a tv connection.
I keep hearing good things about the Winston Brothers
I love the series; it’s amazing!
I haven’t read any of the books featured. I’m trying to think, but I don’t think I read any Park Ranger or Game Warden novels.
Well the list has contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and mystery thriller. One of the mystery thriller is a K9 story. So there might be something you would enjoy.
I do enjoy RS now and then. I may have to check these out. They look good: Park Ranger by Daisy Prescott, Mercy & Elvis mysteries by Paula Munier, and Winston Brothers by Penny Reid.
no fav
Winston Brothers is my favorite. I love the Winston brothers, especially Cletus, and their interactions are great.
Cletus is my favorite too. But Jethro and Drew are the park rangers.
I retired from the National Park Service 2 years ago, and while I wasn’t a park ranger, I worked with a lot of them! They are amazing people who do their jobs simply because they love the job and the parks. I voted for The Winston Brothers because it’s the only series I’ve read and I really, really loved it.
The Winston Brothers are awesome. I think the Nevada Barr series gives the most national park details. I just heard of another series today by Claire Kells.
I’ve read some of the books in three of the six series you mention, Barr, Box and Reid’s. By the sheer number I’ve read, Barr’s probably rates as my favorite.
Barr definitely has the most park details.
I don’t think that I have read very many books that feature park rangers. I read one of the Joe Pickett books and do hope to read more.
I’d certainly like to read more than I have.
I don’t think I’ve read any books with park rangers? I must have. Like one of Jill Shalvis or such? Back many years ago? Hmmmm….
Well these are all series with park rangers as main characters if you want to try them.
I used to love the Nevada Barr books but kind of burned out on them a little while ago. I should pick it up again as I’m sure there are several I haven’t read. I love the Park Ranger element so I will have to look for the rest of these series.
These represent a few different genres but there is a mystery element to most of them and also a romance element to the other half.
I haven’t read any of these series, but the Winston Brothers is one I’ve really been wanting to try. I always see such great reviews for it.
I’ve really loved the Penny Reid stories but I also enjoy the ones here with more actual park details.
I’ve read books with park rangers, but not any of these. I’ve read Reid but not this one.
So were they books with park rangers or series with a park ranger main character? Because if it’s a series I’d like to know about it.
