Sunday Post – 9 July 2023 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday,  this week is hot and a bit more humid. We’ll have some late afternoon / evening thunderstorms. I did my blog visiting and prepping some posts.  I did several small cleanup tasks which was satisfying. Then I wrote 2 reviews. I went down the rabbit hole then, setting up an Instagram account and following a few bloggers I know.  Jay does carrots for the first time.

Monday,  I did my visiting. Then I did some severe email cleanup finally. I created a chart of the tools I am using and which social media they connect.  I created a new survey using Alchemer which allows 100 responses.  I have 12 followers on Instagram and haven’t posted yet. lol  My daughter said her ears hurt and looked up urgent care.  They were closed for today but open tomorrow.

Tuesday, another hot one.  So I did my visiting, wrote my reviews, setup posts.  Then I created a spreadsheet for the apps I use and what social media they are connected, what number is in the free limit, which ones I am using.  From this I could figure out how to set up my stuff.  I use dlvr.it to share blog posts to Twitter and Mastodon.  IFTTT allows 2 applets, I use RSS to FB to share blog posts to Facebook, and RSS to Buffer to share Blog posts to Instagram. Then I updated my Buffer which connects to all 4 of my socials but you can only choose 3 on the free plan, so I chose Instagram, Facebook and Mastodon.  I use Buffer to share sales, deals, and scheduled cover reveals and spotlights. I’ll do Twitter manually as I set up the Buffer shares each day.  The Instagram share is a mess and not very integrated apparently until I get 100 users on Instagram so if you could follow me there, I’d love it. Instagram  When my daughter finally got up she said her ears were ok. I had the first tomato from the garden sliced with our burgers.   Lulu started out ok with the loud noises but got progressively worse.  Luckily, they only went off from about 9-10pm.

Wednesday,  my daughter still not feeling well.  So I walked Abby & Lulu and she took Kayla.  It wasn’t as hot as I expected just hot.  They are opening a new Barnes & Noble and I just can’t get excited to go meet all the great authors (Sawyer Bennett, Kennedy Ryan) . It’s the last day of BJ’s coupons including my daughter’s favorite soup but again not motivated to run errands. I did get a letter of approval from the HOA for the new windows.  OK  I’m getting used to Instagram but I don’t love it.   I’m also used to the new Goodreads page and I’m not grumbling about it anymore, but even though I know how to do the things I need, it’s harder now than before.

Thursday,  it didn’t feel too bad when I went with the dogs walking. So even though it was noon and 90F / 32C with humidity, I decided to at least try to mow the backyard.  That went ok.  I’ll have to do the front and trimming and edging at another time.  Then I took my second shower of the day.  I got some new ARCs and set up some posts.  The drawer pulls that were going to come Monday came today so I can get back to work with the drill practice.  I talked to my ex about the old middle drawer (bathroom cabinet) and that process would be tricky for him so may be beyond my skills.

Friday, we had to get up early for my daughter’s specialist appt.  The doctor ran some tests and we will know more next week.  I’m glad at least she is looking into the situation because my daughter has been miserable the past 2 months.  We stopped on the way home at an estate sale in the neighborhood but it was closed down until tomorrow.  I dropped her at home and went to Harris Teeter for a couple items and her prescriptions.  I picked carrots and my daughter picked chard and herbs to use for dinner.

Saturday, we got up really early.  My daughter wanted to go back to the estate sale and it was her first time.  It was a good choice for her because it was full of craft supplies, mostly stamps but also beads, paper, etc.  Then we ran our errands, including a Walmart pickup.  I’ve been doing my usual computer stuff while fitting in some reading.  The temp is lower today but the humidity is stifling.  I wrote some reviews.

I’ve done a new Social Media survey at Alchemer where I can do 3 surveys and receive up to 100 responses.  So again they should only take about 3 minutes unless you provide long answers to the open-ended questions at the end.  I will share results in a week or two.

Take the survey HERE

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My grateful thanks to Simon & Schuster Audio, Recorded Books, Level Best Books,  Entangled Publishing,   TJ London / Caffeinated Reviewer, Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I got the first 3 audios in the Lady Sherlock series for $3 each and the first in Forrester Detective Agency  series for $2 from Chirp.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. I’m amazed your fireworks were so abbreviated. They went on for hours and hours here. Not a fan. I hope your daughter can get some news/relief from her doctor. I’m super excited for the new Lisa Jewell release. She’s my favorite when it comes to mysteries.

  2. It amazes me that you had fireworks for such a short time! We walked the dogs before 7 am on the 4th and had to spend the rest of the day at home because they went off throughout the day and night. I was surprised to see you on Instagram! I am really excited to listen to The Turncoat!

  3. I haven’t taken the plunge with Instagram or Tiktok yet – but I’m considering both:)). I don’t particularly want to leave Twitter as I’m comfortable with it and tend to stay away from all the nonsense and I know my own peeps who hang out there:)). I hope your daughter feels better soon – those temperatures sound utterly draining, especially with the humidity. Have a good week, Anne.

    • Thank you Sarah. I feel the same as Twitter was my first and for quite awhile my only social media. I like Facebook for groups like our neighborhood where I live and COYER and use those quite a bit. Twitter isn’t working very well. Instagram is popular in my survey so I’m trying it. Then there’s the personal vs. blog accounts so I have double of most, but no personal Instagram yet, just the blog. The weather in July and August is something to survive with the other 10 months are great. At least the tomatoes, green beans and basil seem to love the heat.

  4. We finally had summer weather here. The fourth was cool and rainy, but Wednesday – Saturday were so lovely. Highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s and SUNSHINE! I even made it to our beach 3 days. I go early and stay for a couple hours. It also depends on the tide. With all the sun and beach time, I haven’t done many chores. That’s what I’ve been doing all day today.

  5. Sounds like you accomplished so much this week and I hope your daughter is feeling better. I did a lot of reading while off but need to post quite a few reviews next week.

  6. I hope your daughter feels better. Anything above 90° for me is just too hot and it was 114 here this week which is just way too hot for me. I don’t even take the dog for a long walks during the day and this heat cuz it’s just too hot. Good thing we have lots of shade in our courtyard and he can just go out there by the trees.

  7. Lulu! I hope your daughter feels better soon. I get annoyed by the fireworks here but they don’t bother Otis thankfully. The 4th falling on a Tuesday this year was strange.
Enjoy your books this week, I just followed you on Instagram. I have a love/hate relationship with it lol sometimes I want to delete it but then I get reeled back into it. I am hooked on TikTok so I try to limit my time on there and read or crochet instead.

  8. I hope your daughter gets some help from the doc! It’s been so hot here and I am already over it. Good luck with the socials-its all super overwhelming sometimes. I am just about done with it all.

  9. I hope your daughter gets her medical issues sorted so she feels better. I have mixed feelings about Instagram, but I like it better than Facebook. Twitter I’m not really on either. I just re-tweet stuff for the most part. Now Instagram just did Threads and I have no idea what that’s about. Just another thing to try and figure out.

We’ve been having some heat here too and of course it was really hot (like 105) when I was in Montana and we don’t have an automatic watering system in place yet at this house so I was stressed out about all my plants. Thankfully my sister came and watered twice when we were gone. I really owe her because that’s a big job to do! It’s cooled down a bit to like 80s, but we’ll be back to the 90s and the end of the week and hitting 100 both Saturday and Sunday next week. I guess summer temps are here to stay for a while.

    • Thanks Rachel. I am glad to have figured out how to automate most of my sharing and it’s working now. I got into Instagram just in time for Threads which I didn’t know about. Because of groups like COYER and our neighborhood page, I use Facebook quite a bit. I can’t believe you get that hot in Northern CA. We will be 90s most of the time until September now. The next 2 days are partly a north wind so I have to try to mow, but my daughter has 2 medical appts tomorrow plus whatever we hear from the gastroenterologist. I hope they come up with some answers for her. I want to get back to my drilling.

      .

  10. Thank you for following me on Insta! I haven’t updated in ages but I saw the notification this week and it made me happy. I need to get on there and follow some people back and update. I hope your daughter gets some good results and they can help.

the new b ook by Lisa Jewell and Deadly Tides both look good.

  11. Another busy week for you Anne! I hope your daughter is feeling better soon and the Dr can determine the cause. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

  12. How is your daughter feeling? I hope the test results come back and it’s an easy fix and she finds comfort soon.

I finally set up automatic posting on my FB blog page–thank you for recommending dlvr.it! So now, at least, my blog posts will go up there. I’ve had Instagram for awhile now, but don’t use it a lot. I am not much for posting photos, which it is built more for. Threads is probably more my speed–but even then, I don’t imagine I will be extremely active on it.

    Have a great week, Anne!

  13. Your poor daughter! My MIL just found out that her earaches are caused by a deep inner ear infection that they can only deal with through surgery which is next week for her. Hopefully, your daughter will find out something helpful from the doctor soon.
Whew, that’s sweltering there and way to go still getting tasks and lawnmowing done.
Busy week for you. Cutie baby and Lulu pics! The estate sales can be fun.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  14. Instagram used to be my favorite app before it became all video. I loved seeing all the photos and text. But yeah, it’s not so great anymore. This is why I’m loving Threads now because it feels like the IG I used to love. Look at your chard! Delicious.

  15. I’m not great at instagram or really any social media. Every once in awhile I I post on various things for a bit and then go on hiatus again. I’m sorry to hear your daughter wasn’t feeling well but am glad the fireworks were short for Lulu’s sake. The new Lisa Jewell looks great! Have a great week!
