Sunday Post – 11 February 2024 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday,  the previous week, which was a dumpster fire, is over and I am moving forward.  I scrubbed up my yoga mat to use in the morning to do pushups. Apparently, Series in a Month #SIAM is moving to March so I’ll have to reconfigure my reading plan for February. I did my visiting through Feedly and the Sunday post.  I took Lulu for a walk and the wind was cold.  I wrote 2 reviews.  I have a menu plan for the next 2 days but need to finish.  I saw my Reading Challenge wasn’t updating on the Right Sidebar and realized I hadn’t entered a goal, so that’s working now.  We had broccoli from the garden.

Monday, I did my Feedly visiting, and finished up my menu plan with shopping lists.  Followit tried to fix the timing of the emails and made it worse but they are trying.  FS Poster tells me they will have a new version tomorrow. I called and cancelled ATT.  Apparently they don’t do any prorating.   I vacuumed my room and the upstairs after my daughter got up.  I took Lulu for her walk.  My daughter is having lots of gastro problems this week which are keeping her up most of the night. Lulu is so stinking cute carrying around her new toy.

Tuesday,  with the temp around 40F / 5C and the winds strong, it will be a cold walk this morning.  I put on a turtleneck and wool socks.  Followit tells me if it says 12AM email that is noon and what I think of as 12PM, their designation for 12 AM midnight is 0AM.  Too weird.  We will see if that is how things work.  I was going to go to the garden center since I’ll be down that way this afternoon but the opening is tomorrow. Sigh.  I like to combine errands whenever possible.

Wednesday,  a little warmer and still windy.  Abby and Lulu and I enjoyed our walk. We had chiro appts. I dropped off all the ATT equipment and then picked up fresh items at Aldi.  My daughter messaged the gastro doc and got an RX for an antibiotic to kill the bad bacteria in her gut. I ordered the rest of her RX which were due to pickup at the same time.

Thursday, another busy day with walking and then going to my daughter’s dermy appt.  Then a BJ’s pickup,  followed by a stop at Harris Teeter for her RXs. The dermy told us we could get one RX for $60 instead of $95 at a different pharmacy.  I grilled out for dinner. I emailed the author and publisher for the next Read-along.

Friday, my med appt for this morning was cancelled and I am so happy to have a day at home!  I got a message from the $95 pharmacy saying they had the RX ready.  So I called the dermy doc and said what?  So then they sent it to the $60 pharmacy who called me and I paid for it.  I was supposed to have a 2pm phone meeting and they just called at 2 to postpone.  I could have gotten more done without the scheduled interruptions today.  Now those 2 appts are next week. I started on the prep for the next Read-along. I already have a response from the publisher!  I walked Lulu on the longest route and since it was so late in the afternoon, lots of neighbors were out.  We didn’t see the swans.

Saturday,  I slept well enough. I lollygagged enough to read and finish my ebook during DEAR. Then I got going on things. Ashley loaded the new FS Poster update but it didn’t change anything. But I was listening to the audio which was so good I just sat and listened until I finished it, almost.  I realized I’d been just sitting and got up and took the Lulu for a walk for the last 20 minutes.  The weather is gorgeous with sunshine, a south breeze and a temp of 75F/24C.  It won’t last but it’s great.

The kickoff will be June 2nd.  According to what I read, this series is urban fantasy, not PNR as I thought. There are 6 books and one novella. The books are a bit on the longer side. I’ve wanted to read these for years so I’m excited to do so later this year.  The narrator, Nicole Poole is excellent according to my sources.  Both the ebooks and audio are available at my libraries and the audiobooks are also at Hoopla.  The audio publisher is Tantor Audio and they have already offered me a full set of the audiobooks as a prize with codes which are good worldwide.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My grateful thanks to Berkley, Carina Press,   Penguin Audio, and Harper Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I bought the Humble bundle for Romantasy which is available until February 24th; the minimum price is $18.  It contains 24 Graphic Audio audiobooks from some of my favorite authors.  It also supports charity. Click on the image to see all 24 audiobooks including Ilona Andrews, Devon Monk, Charlene Harris, Shannon Mayer, KF Breene, Jeaniene Frost and more.

I bought this as a $1.99 deal.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Nice that you got the saving for your prescription. Your broccoli looks wonderful! Awesome that Tantor offered up all the audios for the next read-along! Very generous. Hope the antibiotics helps your daughter’s gastro issues! I’m wondering what audio you listened to straight through (almost).

  2. Lulu looks so happy with her new toy! I need to figure out how to do that challenge bar on the side of my blog too, I love that idea! I got the LB Dunbar freebie today too, just kept forgetting to open the email to do that yesterday. I keep seeing that Kim Harrison book and the cover makes me interested. I might have to give her a try with that one! Hope you have a good week!

  3. This was my catch up week after a bout of the stomach flu the week before so for once I was zipping around as you. 🙂 Hope your daughter’s feeling better now and hopefully you’ve got all the horrid posting struggles finished. Nice feeling to have the new readalong set up. Nice big broccoli pic!

    Have a good week, Anne!

  4. It is weird that 12am is 12pm, and that midnight has to be 0am. So weird! Lulu is so cute with her new toy! I hope your daughter feels better now. Have a wonderful week ahead!

  5. Glad your doc told you about the cheaper prescription. My husband and I have been shopping his prescriptions around as well because his inhaler was $250! Hopefully you are able to at least get FS poster to work so you can even see if you like it!

  6. Lulu looks adorable with her toy! Glad you had a day at home and that you were able to get all the prescriptions to the right pharmacy. I hope your daughter’s gastro issues are improving and I hope you have a great week!

  7. Whew, it sounds like you had a very busy week! We use a very small company for our internet. The price is good and the customer service is excellent. I wish that I could get my mom signed up for them but they only service a small area. Nice new reads this week! I hope that you have a great week, Anne!

    • Thank you Shelleyrae. I would be thrilled to have you join the next one. It’s shortish, starts in July for just 6 months like the current one. It is UF which surprised me as I thought it was PNR, which the followup series is PNR. I don’t know exactly if the time for the online chat would work for you. We had someone from the Philippines who did a few and Linda from Switzerland. I have had a few friends there and my best guess is 3pm Sunday NYC would be 7am Monday for you. Not as bad as the middle of the night at least. I don’t know if the books would be in your libraries though.

  8. Prescription med prices are downright criminal so kudos to your doctor for offering up an alternative/better price. It warmed up considerably here last week and was 80 both Saturday and Sunday. I think winter has already taken a hike.

  9. Prescriptions drive me nuts. I mean if one pharmacy can do it at one price, why can’t they all. Makes no sense to me. Our pharmacy here is so short-staffed they are not open on Saturdays or Sundays from September 2023 to November 2023. See a problem? Apparently they don’t have a calendar available either. Lulu clearly loves her new toys. The boys got new toys for the Super Bowl – a can of “White Paw Selzer” in “lick it Lime” flavor and a big stuffed football. Mainly because I ran into Home Goods for candles and they always have such cute toys for great prices. Maybe I need to check out the Danika Dark series? I did want to read more UF this year.

    • yes I could write the entire blog on my issues and trials with prescriptions. That no Saturday or Sunday during the high season for flu shots is daft. The months to be closed on the weekend are in the summer, but maybe that’s when they get college help. ??? Lulu loves all her toys and she has both expensive and cheap ones. That one was from Dollar tree. She likes the soft ones, but we don’t get ones with stuffing because that would be all over. She also like the rope ones they have at Dollar tree. We would love to have you read Mageri series with us for the second half of the year! It seems to be at most libraries. The narration is supposed to be amazing. I’ve had good luck with picking series for the Read-along even though I haven’t read any of WTZ or Mageri before.

  10. Last week I went to pre-order the audio of Speculations in Sin only to find out it’s not coming with the print/ebook. I’m so sad – I hope it comes out soon, but I couldn’t find any info about it.

Last week was good. My daughter made a decision on her college for next year so that’s super exciting. Now back to our usual routine.
