Max and Annie Kingsley have left the London rat race with their twelve-year-old son to set up a glamping site in the wilds of Cornwall. Eager for a dry run ahead of their opening, they invite three old university friends and their families for a long-needed reunion. But the festivities soon go awry as tensions arise between the children (and subsequently their parents), explosive secrets come to light, and a sudden storm moves in, cutting them off from help as one in the group disappears.
I saw this one and couldn’t resist listening to it myself. The setting is one I like and the narration would match that location. The Search Party had a bit of the old friends go away and they start losing people. It wasn’t quite like that though.
The timeline is a bit of back and forth from the start of the weekend going forward and the end of the weekend. It’s a bit confusing but it aids in the mystery and the twistiness of the story. It’s really hard to tell who will be the hero and who will be the villain in the young men of the story.
The adults were friends in college and getting together now, they all have some secrets. Dominic is on his second marriage with a new child, plus two older children. Max and Annie, Jim and Susie are couples who have stayed together. Kiera has recently married for the first time and has a new baby. They are all around 40. Max and Annie have a boy who they adopted. Jim and Susie have a few kids also.
There are definitely some character flaws in these adults. Annie and Max are hosting in their new venture, WildeNest. It’s a glamping site in the countryside. I liked them and their son, Kip. I really felt for Kip who had been traumatized as child, but spent the last 6 years with Annie and Max, who are architects and good people.
I didn’t like Dominic or his wife that much, and Scarlet, was a bratty teen. Susie is a hard worker who likes to party. Jim has never grown up and likes to party. Kiera is a doctor, and is happy with her new husband and baby.
It was interesting to see them reflecting on their lives as some uncomfortable secrets were revealed. With no phone or Internet and a bad storm, these people found out what really mattered to them pretty quickly. The smart ones are taking it to heart and letting it inform their lives going forward.
Narration:
I don’t believe I have heard either narrator previously. I was very comfortable with their performance and voices. It let me stay in the story. I listened at my usual 1.5x speed.

I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters.The other thing I enjoy is humor.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this too! I couldn’t stand Dominic or his wife! The scheming the Tanya did! She kind of got some payback, not her child being lost, but the other bit she discovered. I can’t say I was sorry for her at all. I still thought Fred, Kira’s husband was skeevy in the end. He was ogling Scarlet. I wouldn’t think that marriage would last.

This sounds interesting and I do love the setting. I’ll keep an eye out for this one at the library.
It’s really interesting, a lot of realistic ways people are. But there were some surprises.
No phone or internet? This sounds like a horror novel 😉
