No man truly fears a woman. Not even one who is her father’s daughter.
The case was sensational. Kaylee Pierson had confessed from the very beginning, waived all appeals. She had called herself “death,” but people called her the devil. Despite the media’s chronicling of her tragic circumstances—the childhood spent with a violent father—no one could find sympathy for “the Beautiful Butcher” who had led eighteen men home from bars before viciously slitting their throats.
Now, with only twenty-one days left to live, Pierson has finally received a lead on the whereabouts of the sister who was kidnapped over a decade ago, and she needs Frankie’s help to find her. The Beautiful Butcher’s offer:
When was the last time your search ended with finding the living?
Unable to resist the chance for a rescue, Frankie takes on Pierson’s request. Twelve years ago, five-year old Leilani went missing in Hawaii. The main suspect? Pierson’s tech mogul ex-boyfriend, Sanders MacManus. Now, on a remote island in the middle of the Pacific—the site of MacManus’s latest vanity project—fresh evidence has appeared. In order to learn the truth and possibly save a young woman’s life, Frankie must go undercover at the isolated base camp. Her challenge: A dozen strangers. Countless dangerous secrets. Zero means of calling for help. And then the storm rolls in…
I LOVE the Frankie Elkin series. Lisa Gardner has long been an author I have enjoyed and I am thrilled with this new series. Here’s what I had to say in earlier reviews which gives you a foundation about Frankie:
… Frankie is a recovering alcoholic with no special skills beyond tenacity and the fortitude to uproot and reinvent her life each time she finds a new case to solve. She tackles the “unimportant” missing, mostly teenagers, who are poor or minorities or both. It reminds me of the Equalizer except Frankie doesn’t have the weapons, physical training or any kind of technical or financial resources. However, Frankie has some street smarts and she just doesn’t give up. Oddly, she’s a bit of a luddite with technology.
Still See You Everywhere starts Frankie on a different sort of hunt. Normally, she helps ordinary and desperate folks who are missing a loved one. This time she is being asked to look for the younger sister of a serial killer who is set to die in a few weeks. Frankie doesn’t like the killer, but she does like her lawyer and is curious about what happened to the younger sister.
The lawyer has set her up to work in a remote atoll near Hawaii where an eco resort is being built by the tech billionaire where the killer last saw her younger sister. It’s remote and isolated. Frankie does cleaning and helps with cooking. Things are strange from the day she arrives. She does well with making friends with the other staff. Frankie is excellent at reading people and situations.
The action is non-stop! Frankie barely gets a chance to sleep. Somehow she is in on everything. Partly, at the start, I think this happens because people like the project manager don’t trust her. But she is a valuable member of the team all along. Frankie works hard and learns things are not the same as what she was told.
Everything is twisty and scary and dangerous. And that isn’t including the carnivorous crabs, or the tech billionaire who arrives with military level security. So the realistic aspect of this story is not so believable, but it was an exciting and excellent read.
Narration:
Hillary Huber is one of my favorite narrators so I have listened to this series on audio. When I fist started this one I got serious Midnight Breed feels but then it settled into this series. She brings Frankie to life, with most of the story is in her point of view. I was comfortable with all the character voices, which all felt distinct. I listened at my normal 1.5x speed.

Wow, this sounds good. Can’t wait to get to it.
I really LOVE this series. This one was less believable but still a real adventure.
I still need to read the last one. I love Lisa Gardner! Interesting that she switched publishers with this installment.
yes I LOVE these. It was easier for me to get the other audio ARC.
I really like this series, too, though I am a few books behind in it. Which is sadly how I roll these days…always a few books behind. ;D
I really enjoy how smart and independent Frankie is. Yes it is hard to keep up and there are so many series I haven’t even tried yet.
I haven’t read this author but this sounds like a good read.
oh, I’ve enjoyed at least 2 of her other series. I’ve read a lot of her books. I “found” her about the same time I found Harlan Coben. They are both popular and write interesting characters and great plots.
I’ve read one book by this author and really enjoyed it. I’ve been meaning to read more and this one looks really good!
The first two were missing children and in a way this one is also but it may be the first one where the child is still alive.
I’ve enjoyed this author and the series sounds good!
I’ve really been loving it!
“the carnivorous crabs, or the tech billionaire who arrives with military level security” Wha? I’m now intrigued hahaha
There was some wild stuff for sure.
Definitely sounds like it is the perfect type of story for this genre and that it’s done well! Great review!
Thank you Lisa. I enjoy the way of following ideas and information to find the missing person. It’s solving a mystery but also a view into their personalities and the world where they went missing.
