The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Saturday night, we made shrimp dumplings using rice paper. Then I made Moo Shu Chicken since my daughter can’t eat red meat. They tasted great but those dumplings are hours of work. Next time we will just make them egg roll size which will be faster. We served the Moo Shu Chicken with hoisin sauce on corn tortillas, or just over rice.
Sunday, it’s warming up but I still feel cold. I stayed up late reading until 3am. I did the Sunday visiting. I’m still playing around a bit with FS Poster. My current test seems to lock me out of Facebook every Sunday because I am sharing my Sunday Post to my personal page. I’m making a batch of food for Lulu tonight. We are having lettuce from the garden with dinner. I walked Lulu on the usual short route. I was trying to help my daughter with reading over her homework and we couldn’t get the printer to work. That may be a project requiring more troubleshooting tomorrow.
Monday, well the printer is working today. Now my screen went all jiggly which is what I sent it in for repair last time. I’m not excited about this. I got some reviews written and posts set up. The weather is warmer. My daughter, Lulu and I walked the medium route to the park /pool area in our neighborhood.
My brother Paul, his wife and our Mom in a picture he sent me.
Tuesday, it wasn’t supposed to rain! But it rained lightly, Lulu and Abby took it in stride. I wrote reviews. I made calls about medical appointments. The cardiac ultrasound is now scheduled for August 2025 and the PT is still supposed to call me. We are eating greens from the garden every night.
Wednesday, it rained again but stopped by the time we walked. I had a bunch more phone calls for what I call doing other people’s jobs. Grr. I finished editing and scheduled a bunch of posts. I planned for the 80,000 books I want to read the next 2 weeks for the COYER Mystery Readathon. I’m finally caught up with a tiny bit ahead so I can fit in a couple, along with ARCs which fit the criteria.
Thursday, today was supposed to have thunderstorms and high winds. Luckily it was ending around the time of our walk. So Abby and Lulu and I had our usual jaunt. Then I picked up some things at Aldi’s I needed so we could have clam chowder for dinner. Our big gluten free MyBread order came. So we had some mini baguettes with our soup, along with salad from the garden. I went up to the office with her after dinner to support her emotionally while she was working on her homework. Now my daughter’s computer is randomly rebooting. I ordered her a new one which will be here next week. I was able to get the exact same model which is great because she really likes it.
Friday, I slept in a bit late. I wrote some reviews. I organized some options for what I am reading the next week. It was supposed to be windy so I put off yardwork until tomorrow. Late afternoon, my daughter and I went out to walk Lulu and my neighbor was out so we invited Abby to go with us. We picked some snow peas from the garden. I caught up on replying to comments. For the first time, I may have spinach growing.
Saturday, I have lots of tasks I want to do today. I sent a message to FS Poster with my latest questions. I started with some cleaning. Then I wrote a review. My computer and the printer have been working ok so we will see. My daughter’s replacement computer showed up today instead of Tuesday. I went out and mowed the lawn. I was almost finished when the neighbor came over to see if we wanted to walk with her and Abby so we did. A nice day around 70F / 21C. It’s going to really heat up the next few days though, like 85F / 30C.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Thanks so much to Macmillan Audio, AceRoc Books, Berkley.

I always pre-order Ilona Andrews!
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Rainy weather and clam chowder could not be a more perfect combo. 🙂 Especially with a good baguette. The MyBread sounds interesting, I will have to look them up! Enjoy your week.
Thank you Erin. MyBread is all gluten free. They are in Wisconsin. But also in some stores like Sprouts or Whole Foods. My daughter is a big soup fan.
Sweet Lulu and her buddy💜 Do they get along well? Thanks for sharing that pic of your mother, brother and sister-in-law. You look like your Mom!
Have a great week, Anne!
Thanks Jonetta. They do get along well. Abby is coming for an overnight today so we will see how that goes. I look exactly like a photo of my dad’s mother so I always think I more resemble my dad’s family.
The shrimp dumplings look so good, but I know what you mean about hours of work. I’ve found a couple of recipes that turned out so well but I have to plan ahead because they are so time consuming, lol. What a nice photo of your family😁
Thank you Tammy. What really takes the time is rolling the dumplings in the rice paper. Soup can take a long time but it’s more it cooks longer after I put it together so I can do other work while it’s cooking.
Gosh Anne, your cooking looks absolutely delicious and you have me hungry now! Have a wonderful week.
Thanks Sophie. I enjoy some cooking and finding new recipes we like.
Oh my those dumplings look amazing! Thanks for the heads up on the Ilona Andrew’s book , I need to preorder it! We had a day where it wasn’t supposed to rain last week and it rained allllll day!
The weather forecasts do not seem very accurate here right now. We are getting some rain more often than projected and it’s usually the opposite – we get less than projected.
Nice that you could get out on your walks between rain showers. I managed to wash my windows around house and screened in porch between rainshowers so I was happy to get that spring cleaning task done. I love that you’re eating your garden produce all week. I was thrilled to start my seeds in their trays. I have to keep them inside up in the window, though, until we’re warm enough at night. Bummer about the printer and your daughter’s computer going on the fritz. I’m about due for a new computer, but I’m trying to eek out a few more months with this one. Ooo, nice haul this week of books. I got that Nalini Singh, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia. I’m glad to have a longer growing season here. I know the printer and my computer are going to have “fatal” problems but I’m just going along since they are working again for now.
Dumplings are so much work! I made siu mai (dimsum) and fried wontons a couple of weeks ago and they take hours to make, and only a few minutes to gobble up because they’re so delicious! 😂
Yes! We need gluten free so we use rice paper which is harder to use than the wonton wrappers we used to use that have gluten. I think instead of making smaller dumplings with half a paper, we will just make full size rolls next time. Half the work and the same tasty results.
Wow! 80,000 books, huh?! Have you been reading Sanctuary weekly? I always wait until it’s all done and edited, so I’m very excited!
We had a busy beginning of the week with the eclipse and my daughter’s birthday. Then lots of rain. This weekend is better and I think we will have some nice weather for a couple days. I have hyacinths and daffodils blooming.
oh at least. A Mystery Readathon is fun for me. I read Sanctuary on their site but mostly after the final post because of all the crazy stuff for my daughter and long-time things failing. You had some fun events last week. It’s been raining a bit more here than projected but still not very much. It will be hot this week. Things are really starting to grow here.
Your lettuces are growing so nicely! It’ll be several weeks before mine are full grown. Lulu and Abby look so cute and they look like they get along well. Your mother seems like she’s doing a lot better! I’ve never made dumplings. They look good despite being labor intensive. I’m looking forward to Primal Mirror and Disturbing the Dead. I need to catch up with that series before I read it, though.
Thank you Rachel but the photo is the spinach and chard. The lettuces are very big and we’ve been enjoying them. Abby and Lulu are cute together. They get along well. Abby doesn’t seem to want to lay in her beds; she is in Lulu’s beds. But Lulu doesn’t care and has a lot of beds. yes luckily, Mom’s stroke does not seem to have been severe.
Good luck reading your 80,000 books. Guess you have your work cut out for you. LOL!
I have a large number I want to read. It’s one of my favorite Readathons.
We had a few nice days and then a couple of days close to 90 degrees. I know it’s going to really heat up soon and I’m not looking forward to it.
Well this week is going to be pretty hot, mid 80s but I hope we have another 2 months before we are in the 90s all the time.
I don’t know if my body and eyes would let me stay up until 3 a.m. reading. I can barely keep my eyes open if I’m still up at 11 p.m. It was easier when I was younger. It doesn’t help though that I am up at 5 a.m. most days because of work. Of course, I could do a lot of things when I was younger. I’ve been really feeling my age lately. Ooo! Sanctuary! That sounds like a good one. I hope you have a great week, Anne! Hopefully it won’t get too warm–but just warm enough!
Thank you Wendy. It’s warm enough that I am doing most outdoor activity in the morning. But the sun feels good yet. So the humidity can’t be too bad. I often struggle between 9:30 and 10:30pm but if I make it past that or have a really good book I can stay up late. I sometimes pay for it the next day or two though.
It sounds like you’ve had some crazy weather! It’s incredible that you are harvesting from your garden already (here it’s only time to plant the cooler crops). Have a great week!
Thank you Jodie. Yes pretty much the winter is highs around 50 and lows around 30 so the ground doesn’t freeze and some cool veggies will grow year round. The broccoli, snow peas, and chard grew over the winter. I planted the other cool crops at the beginning of February so it’s been 60-75 days. This is the first year spinach has done well and I planted it later. I think it can’t handle February.
I had to go request instruction in shadow i loved the first book for that series. How cool that you all ready have nice enough weather to gather from your garden. Hope you have a good reading week.
Thank you Jan. We love our garden. I loved Benedict Jacka’s other series – Alex Verus.
That food looks delicious! I love rainy days. Wish we had more. But we’re supposed to have some record highs for this time of the year this coming week. Lulu is adorable as always. Did you say that the cardiac thing is schedule for 2025? That’s crazy! I hope you have a good week!
Thanks Lisa. We enjoy cooking and eating from our garden. yes the appt is 2025 or 16 months in the future. There apparently are very few knowledgeable in this type of work / diagnosis. Lulu is our best girl.
Your mom has a lovely smile 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful reading week
Thank you !
It sounds like a busy week – how lovely to be eating greens from the garden every night!! It sounds as if your daughter is feeling a bit better. I am very excited to see the second book in the Benedict Jacka series popping up as An Inheritance of Magic is one of my favourite books of 2023:)). I hope you have a great week, Anne.
Thank you Sarah. We love our garden. I’m a big fan of Benedict Jacka so I was happy to see a new one coming.
The dumplings sound amazing! I plan to listen to Jacka and cannot wait.
Thank you. It’s a good thing I like to cook. My daughter likes diverse foods with more Intl flavors since with gluten free she can’t eat everything. I will probably listen to the Jacka book but I couldn’t resist getting the eARC. I sometimes like to read-listen to keep going throughout the day and evening.
Oooo those made me hungryyyy
I try to learn to cook all the good stuff.
It’s been too long since I’ve had a good clam chowder! Perfect rainy day food. I’ve wanted to make dumpings but have always chickened out. I have a shellfish allergy so I typically don’t eat dumplings at restaraunts (too high of a risk of cross contamination) but I do love them! I hope you’re having a great week!
I understand. I’d probably prefer pork but red meat bothers my daughter so while I may cook a steak or burger on the grill, most of our meat is poultry or seafood.
The Chinese food looks delicious!
Cute pic of your mom!
Cute pics of the doggies.
You mentioned clam chowder and that sounds so good right now.
Wait…cardiac ultrasound…did you say August 2 0 2 5 as in one year and 4-ish months from now???? Jeeeeeesus! That’s crazy!
Thanks. I’m getting better at Chinese food prep because it is something we both like. Soup is my daughters other favorite. Yes 14 months away. We have been trying to get her tested for this since 2018 so I am not shocked.
